Torment Torment: Tides of Numenera Beta Thread [GAME RELEASED, GO TO NEW THREAD]

The decline is painful. They turned something beautiful into Tumblr.

The decline in the art direction is a real thing - I'm not expecting good things from the visuals. Bad art direction usually results in crappy visuals.

It'll be interesting to see how much criticism is levelled at the game over things which aren't actually bad at all. I'm still expecting good things from the story, quests, reactivity etc because of the talent on the writing team.

It depends on how much the talent actually worked on this thing, Chris only wrote one companion (did he write anything else?) and I'm not sure how much Ziets was involved. Darth Roxor said that the dialogues aren't very good, so who knows?

Easily one of the blander pieces of art the game has managed to produce thus far.

Darth Roxor also shat all over Pillars but I liked the writing in that game, so...

That beard placement...doesn't seem centered

Holy shit, now that you mention it

Wait, what beard? There's some shadow from the coat that could be mistaken for a long goatee... but it's a shadow, right?

I believe he meant the chin.

The dude's face/head is turned to the bottom right of the pic, but his chin almost looks like he's directly facing the camera.

Ah, that. Well, the similar thing for Callistege had her look like she had a broken neck or something if I remember correctly. These "cards" or whatever are just awful, horrible crap. Whoever is doing them should be fired immediately.

At least Calli looks fuckable in this one.

I might be misremembering but I think Roxor shat all over PoE's bloated writing with 3 connected adjectives per sentence that barely made any sense stringed together. And he's correct, PoE does suffer a lot from the abuse of adjectives just for the sake of it. But maybe he didn't and he's gonna come up and call me a faggot.

There's good writing as well as bad from what I saw. Most of all the writing is gonna be very uneven. Ziets is credited as Lead Designer so he probably had a fairly big role and I trust he can deliver. The quest design for the most part seemed really neat, so he probably had his hand in that.

I have to say, the game is probably good in terms of writing, story and C&C, but man, the art and visuals really took a nosedive somewhere down the road, at least from the 2d/3d art we've seen.

The early stuff looks so different from the finished art.. And the portraits man, damn. What in the fuck happend, really? Even the protag, Last Castoff, looks ok, but the initial art was much better and more in-tone with what PS:T tried to be, imo.

Eh, here's to hoping it won't annoy me much.

George Ziets is the Lead Area Designer. Lead Designer (well, "Design Lead") is Adam Heine.

BTW, I wonder what happens to Adam after this game. He doesn't appear to be on the Wasteland 3 team.

My bad. That panel thing you posted earlier confused me, as that has him just as Lead Designer.

I'm guessing they came around to the predictable conclusion that leaving a senior position in the hands of someone who lives in Thailand creates a number of logistical problems.

Torment's Four Pillars

2. A World Unlike Any Other.
The game has a fantastic, original setting, with awe-inspiring painterly visuals, imaginative locations.

:bravo:

These are some of the blandest character designs I've seen in a while, Matkina in particular looks like a discount Grieving Mother, but painted by someone who has no idea how to convey anything through the facial expression. The asian chick is just an asian chick and the milf is just a milf. I can't even.

But Michigan is okay, I guess.

Might be a clue as to who did a good job on Torment and who did a... less good job.

There might be more to Matkina than you can see at first glance. She is that crazy emo/rock chick whos barely fuckable but insane. She hates you for being so nice to her and thinks your just trying get into her pants. But your being nice to her so she doesnt try to fuck you because it would all end with her stabbing you in the neck. So the joke is kinda on her.

3 hours vs 15 hours.

Does McComb have a full time/permanent job with InXile, then? I haven't paid much attention to WL3.

He appears to be one of its three leads, along with Gavin and George.

as if inxile could figure out what's good or not.

if they knew what good was, they'd make things good from the get-go.

What the fuck is that interface. Jesus. I've purposefully been avoiding the beta's updates and screenshots for the last couple months.

It's not even as bad as everyone here in the codex said it was. It's fucking worse.
Pull your head out of your ass and use that small brain of yours. Can't you see that is that PS4 HUD? And if you took 1 minute to look up a PC screenshot you would see that it is nothing like that. Fucking Christ, some people are playing the Codex attitude to the level of idiocy.
The UI on PC is pretty much identical. The only difference appears to be the radial menu to the lower right of the main UI.
Did you have it confirmed how many foci are in the final game?
Only based on datamining, but if that was incorrect, there's no reason for inXile's silence. Afaik, there's only three foci for the player in the game - Brandishes a Silver Tongue, Breathe's Shadow, and Masters Defense. They boil down to bonuses to social stuff, bonuses to what passes for stealth in this game, and bonuses to defence. They're all pretty much passive (Masters Defense gets a non-passive ability that takes an action and allows you to counter-attack when attacked, so.. it's still pretty passive).

There's others, but all of them are taken up by CNPC:s, scrapped or otherwise.
