Why is he making an endorsement video?

Nah. It says planned/not planned for a reason. We're just communicating intents.

:| Why do you think? To endorse the project.

Because MCA is very well known for working on Torment. But he did not make the game alone.

I mean, he already gave his blessing. Not that I'm complaining about this video.

You know that, because you are a fan of RPGs posting on a RPG specific forum. I'm pretty sure the Codex will not be able to fund the game by itself and what better way to show MCA's support to all the rest of potential backers than by using a cheesy endorsement video?

Why communicate intents through things people can vote on then? Just say "We're starting soon" if votes don't matter on this.

Anyway, I hope it's fucking soon already! :takemyjewgold:

So I take it the campaign is starting soon? I understand InXile's reasons for that, but from what I've read on other forums (like SomethingAwful) most people expect them to only launch the Torment campaign when Wasteland 2 is released or at least close to release. I'm afraid starting it early will turn A LOT of potential backers off pledging. I hope Brian knows what he's doing.

Also, despite MCA "endorsing" the new Torment, I've seen a lot of people say "no MCA, no pledge". Truth be told I fear a bit for this campaign.

Yeah, firing this off early could easily fail due to 1) the appearance of presumptuousness and 2) no MCA, and then the bad look will burden Wasteland 2's development (like making it look like you wanted to cash in before the bottom falls out of Kickstarter, and you needed to sell another game as a pig-in-a-poke instead of being confident that WL2 will be so good people will be begging for more).

Unless that is what you are actually doing, then carry on.

Realistically, the Torment Kickstarter oughtn't begin until a complete team is prepared to offer daily or every-other-daily updates, and—even more importantly—to begin full-time development immediately following the campaign's conclusion. There are many reasons for this, some of which have been articulated by other Codexians, but they really ought to be self-evident to anyone with a few smatterings of common sense.

Also, while MCA is a legitimately beatified member of the pantheon and worthy of praise, he's still just a seasoned nerd whose ideas and methods happen to not fucking suck. His job could as easily be done by another seasoned nerd whose ideas and methods don't fucking suck. It's really not about being amazing or one-of-a-kind in this business—it's about not fucking sucking.

I've been informed that there are many more things they plan to show before the Kickstarter begins. Art, writing samples, etc.

Did the Usual Suspects actually complain about that? Good God, between the fences, the signs and the many, many warnings from NPCs, only a complete moron wouldn't realize...oh, wait.

SA is chock-full of white knights, pretentious tryhards, and console peasants who get terribly excited over the latest corridor shooter. There appears to be a vestigial sense within communities such as RPG Codex that SA is a respectable Internet community with grand old traditions, but as far as I'm concerned, they're largely a bunch of useless hambeasts.

Source: Played EVE Online for seven years, associated with Goons, read the SA forums irregularly, and had been reading their forums and "comedy" articles off and on before I even began playing EVE. I've never paid my tenbux because I've never felt the slightest urge to discuss anything at that shithole, especially now that the self-flagellating man-feminists have become much more prominent.

I do think they raise some valid and widespread concerns (not the bit you quoted, obviously, but the things I mentioned in my earlier post). I've seen the same sentiments wherever the new Torment game has been discussed - and I would personally prefer InXile to release Wasteland 2 first and then ask for more money. I will still go for the minimum digital tier, but not more than that (and I donated $250 to Wasteland 2 + a whole lot to P:E and the two Codex fundraisers).

    Et tu, Beetus?

BTW, I had a look at the Wasteland 2 thread on SA: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3471856&pagenumber=153#post412720115
    Haters gonna hate.

Anyway, I think a slick promo video with lots of prepared material (unlike the Wasteland 2 and PE videos which had nothing) will do much to change the minds of people.

I would like to see WL2 released as well or at least finalized before them launching the kickstarter for Torment.

I'd honestly rather see Torment 2 than Wasteland 2. (I'm quite positive about Wasteland 2, incidentally, I just am more interested in T2.) So I'm all for them kickstarting it early--and hey, if their pitch is garbage, the game would probably also be garbage, so it's trial by fire. I'm not gonna lie, the implication that T2 will be mostly 3D has me intensely worried, but I'm still hugely interested.

    2D is a stretch goal.
