I want to try Bloodlines again (ragequited because of bugs last time) and I can't choose whether to use "True Patch" or "Unofficial Patch 6.9".

I read the long flamefest between teesera and wesp5, and it left me even more confused.

Which one would codex advise me to use?

    use wesp 6.9 basic.

wesp plus iteration is a good choice for replay though, as is playing a Malkavian.

Tessera is definitely a more respectful and cool minded person of the two, so I'd go with the TRUE patch for sure.

This since you have not finished it before.

Play Malkavian on your second run through (not your first), and use the Unofficial patch.

We need to make a sticky about the recommended patches and mods for games.

If you are a bitch, go with Tessera's patch. If you are a man but shave your balls, simulate periods and try to look like a ladyboy, use Wesp's Basic Patch. If you are a man with big cojones, go with Wesp's Plus Patch.

Sometimes I wonder how much of this is legitimate butthurt and how much is just Drog wanting to irritate people.

I played the game once with the true patch, and the rest with Wesps. Wesps is definitely better. Noticed a few bugs in the true patch that weren't in Wesps.

    Edit:

If you haven't played Malkavian, you haven't experienced Bloodlines at its fullest. Craaaazy dialogue responses, full of alliterations and allusions and metaphors. Often your choices are downright poetic. The dialogue responses with some of the other races are quite generic in comparison. Because of the Malkavians insight, and inability to differentiate past, present, and future, sometimes you won't have any idea what your character is talking about, and then lo and behold 2 hours later you finally get it.

One of my favorite dialouge choices: (when discussing the story of adam and eve with Skelter) "I would have given them a worm-free apple"

They changed the music? That's fucking stupid. The music in Bloodlines kicked ass.

From what I've noticed, the only change in the Clan Quest Mod 2.0 makes to music without the optional bullshit is in the Asp Hole. Though I haven't gotten much further; the warrens are really making me consider calling it quits.

(And, for more support, I'll say that, for a first playthrough, Wesp's 6.9 basic is the optimal option. You could just do plus, though. The differences are ultimately rather minor.)

The very fact that Wesp has to do a basic patch show that his motto in doing the normal things got skewed.
    ...
    Wait, what I did post?

    Oh let's do it again:

If you want a normal game with bugs fixed, do the True Patch thingies. If you want a game with changes that the game developers definitely didnt make, feel free with Wesp's OP.

Tessera is too much a prima donna but at least his motto in making patch stay true.

It's been a long time since I got in on the drama of Tessera and Wesp, but wasn't Tessera's patch just ripped from Wesp's and stripped of the changes (before wesp had a basic patch.) As in Tessera just stole Wesp's work and called it her own? And didn't she just go on to edit things she "believed" the creators intended in later renditions doing exactly what wesp did, only with other things?

Besides, she makes titty mods and think the world owes her for it.

Eh, it's a mod, not a patch. I figure you can just save the old music somewhere else and overwrite the new ones, though.

Well, "Basic" patch 7.0 really ruined some of the enjoyment of my very first play through of this legendary game, and that hurts. Those emails from the plus version that pop up have some titanic spoilers in them. I am in the very first part of the game, only an hour's playtime or so, and now I know who the killer is, thanks to an email about a certain blood type obtained by "The tabloids" that I just read. And there isn't any way to see who the email is from and thus avoid it. And I'm not about to skip ALL the emails, because for all I know one of them is critical to the game. Honestly, what a downer. My very first playthrough. I guess I will reroll a different clan and play unpatched/true patch, or wait until 7.1 and hope there are no more glaring bugs like this in it. Bah.

I guess the other thing I could try is the plus version. I'm assuming that it handles the timeline better so these additional emails don't become spoilers? I haven't found the plus version on the web yet though.

Thank you for trolling and bringing attention to the thread. Although, there isn't much constructive that can come of my post. I guess I was hoping for some magic solution other than rerolling with a different patch, waiting for 7.1 or running Plus on my first run (not gonna).

To clarify, for 7.0 he didn't properly fork the basic and plus versions. So you get regular spoiler emails referencing the "plus" quests if you are using the basic fork. And so far they seem to be fairly major spoilers. As this is my first play, I'm not sure what the result of ignoring all the emails would be, but I like the touch and I'd much prefer not to.

There are definite differences in balancing between wes-basic and tesspatch.

combat is harder in tesspatch. Less abundant money/ammo, opps resist more, but the most obvious is that disciplines are severly limited vs supernatural enemies.
For example, playing as tremere in wesp-patch is basically autowin - blood purge stuns EVERYTHING so you just shoot them off/ blood strike them. In tesspatch it won't work on the blood guardian and that asian dude in Santa M. for example. I figure same hold's true for dementia and dominate.
