Warhammer Total War: Warhammer 2

I was impressed that they added the whole shebang with Heinrich Kemmler's Grey Mountains faction and the Vampire Counts overhaul, but it feels more like a mod than professional work with the lazy-ass asset swap Necrarch/Lahmian/Blood Knight Lords. Still very nice, but I hope one day VC get a few more models to work with (perhaps if we get Nagash in WH3 he'll come with some other new models and animations).

I actually think this update is telegraphing exactly the opposite.

The studio has already publicly announced they're working on TWW3 back in July.

The fact that they're doing an overhaul of the Vampire Counts now, leads me to believe that they will not be prominently featured in TWW3, and they've all but stated officially that they're not going to do anything with Chaos Daemons in TWW2 because its going to be in TWW3. Which feeds back into my thought that basically what they're doing with Vampire Counts and supposedly a couple other TWW1 races they'll be updating in the next few months, is update them so they'll be acceptable in TWW3 Mortal Empires because they are not going to be touched in the new game.

I HOPE otherwise though. Vampire Counts was my tabletop fantasy army and I always liked the earlier VC before they started getting stupid towards the end (right before the total dumpster fire train wreck of End Times).

I know they won't be a focus (they've said they will always prioritize WH2 factions for now) merely that if they decide to use Nagash, for example, as another "boss" type faction (similar to AI WoC, Vortex skaven, or Lokhir in the VamCo campaign) in WH3 or one of the DLC (maybe the final Mortal Empires map will have more than one Big Bad - Nagash, Archaon and Bellend or we the daemon's name is attacking from three corners of the map), we might get another couple of models out of it that can be switched out with the lazy placeholder ones we have right now. I'd be surprised if we don't get a proper Neferata model eventually, since her faction was specifically added to ME. But it might be a very long time since CA have said they're working on revamps of other WH1 factions with each major update.

Giving VC love is definitely tricky because they already have a very large roster of units plus multiple Legendary Lords and a couple of start positions (Vlad faction doesn't really count), but they're STILL missing quite a few iconic characters and unique Lord models. It probably annoys people to see them getting even more crap when Empire is currently in the same dismal situations as WH1. I would honestly have no problem with more "mini" DLC packs with maybe 1 LL, 1 Lord and a coiple of units (like Grim and Grave) ON TOP OF the usual scheduled big DLC packs. They could certainly put some animators and artists on it instead of wasting them on Thrones of Soytannia.

Well if that's the case you should be praying for Mannfred as the enemy rather than Nagash. In the lore Nagash jumped around from Tomb Kings to Vampire Counts to actually in charge of the Skaven for a while, while if Mannfred is the big bad then they'll definitely be updating VC to go with him.

I'm talking about ET lore, where Nagash kills, forces out or dominates all the major undead characters and makes them "Mortarchs" plus adding a couple of new units. Neferata, for example, got a new model more in line with her novel art than the old kitty seductress. CA have already cribbed from ET with Daddy Vladdy and Isabella coming back, so if they made Nagash another Big Bad of the next game's post-launch ME campaign he might bring some unique models that could be backported to VC, similar to how the LoC was the antagonist of the WH1 WoC campaign and later integrated into the Norsca quests as well as being usable in custom battles.

With Curse of the Vampire Coast leaving the CA port as of a few weeks ago, we couldn’t be happier with how it’s been received by the fans. All of us in the Fantasy New Content team had great fun while fans speculated during the Legendary Lord reveals, right through to reading all the feedback on your first playthroughs.

We’re not resting on our laurels, though, and are taking the time to look at the fan feedback following its release and at Total War: WARHAMMER II in general with a view to releasing an open beta before we all break for the holidays to fix a few bugs, update the Total War: WARHAMMER I races’ skills trees to be more in line with their Total War: WARHAMMER II counterparts, and do some general quality of life fixes to ensure you have something new to get stuck into over the festive season.

No mention of Lizardman/Skaven Lord pack at all. I guess this implies we're not getting anything new until mid-Spring 2019 or later at the very earliest. Sad!

I think it was almost a given that the LL pack would come in 2019. The 3 to 5 people still not moved to the TK team probably have their hands full fixing the game breaking bug they introduced into the campaign with the cove mechanics. Hopefully though the LL pack will come in late January - early February, because after that their hype machine will focus on TK and they wouldn't want you distracted by new content to stuff you have already bought.
Also I love how they won't commit to actually fixing the game breaking bug from WH2. They're just trying o put out a beta brach before going on holidays. GG.

They did specify nothing until 2019 after releasing VamCo, just not the specific date. Some people speculated January but the fact they haven't even acknowledged working on the Lord Pack suggests to me they're waiting until Spring. It's clear that Warhammer 1's DLC/FLC schedule benefited from being a flagship title with no other major releases at the same time - sadly Warhammer 2 and perhaps 3 are looking more like second-tier releases. If 3K is a smash hit in China you can expect them to stop caring about everything else.

Yeah, TK becoming too big would probably fuck up other projects of theirs, I mean just look at what has happened this year with Thrones of Britannia and WH2.
Hopefully once the game is out they will only have smaller teams doing DLCs because in the end reskinning humans is easier than creating new skeletons for something like ogres or chaos daemons.

At this rate, SFO will never get updated.

https://www.totalwar.com/blog/the-festag-update-beta

The Festag Update Beta brings a number of improvements, changes, fixes, and balance changes to WARHAMMER II, along with a major skills update for the Lords and Legendary Lords of the Old World that appear in WARHAMMER II’s Mortal Empires campaign.

Characters of the Old World now get Red Skill Trees comparable to their New World counterparts in WARHAMMER II, plus numerous tweaks and changes to their existing skills, traits and abilities. Character mounts have also been standardised to unlock at specific ranks. These are all detailed below.

Alongside a fresh balance pass for specific battlefield units, the Festag Update Beta also features some important bugfixes, including a fix for a crash that occurred when a Vampire Coast faction owning Pirate Coves was destroyed, and a fix that ensures Exhaustion is applied after a Hero has established a Pirate Cove.

Spectator Mode has also been updated with new functionality. Again, please see below for full details.

Instructions
It is highly recommended that you start a new campaign after opting into this beta. Since a large number of skills have been reworked, any points invested in skills prior to the Festag Update are likely to be lost in an existing save game.

We already have an existing beta named public_beta, so to avoid confusion, this will be renamed and we’ll have two betas that can be selected from:

  • norsca_beta – This is for those who wish to remain on the most recent update prior to the Festag update, in order to continue with existing multiplayer save games (which will not be compatible with the Festag Update) or campaigns with existing Legendary Lord skills choices you wish to preserve. This beta was previously known as “public_beta”.
  • coast_beta – This provides the Festag Update, comprising all the new content, fixes, changes and balance updates detailed below.
Instructions for opting into and downloading the update are as follows:

  • In your Steam games library, right-click Total War: WARHAMMER II and select Properties.
  • In the Properties window, select the BETAS tab.
  • Select coast_beta from the list.
  • Total War: WARHAMMER II will automatically update to the Festag Beta Update.
Old World Character Skills Update
Red Skill Tree Update
This major update revamps the Red Skill Trees of the Old World Lords and Legendary Lords in Mortal Empires, adding a host of new skills and updating existing ones to be on par with their New World counterparts. Certain legacy Red Skills have been moved up to the Lords’ Yellow (character) Skill Tree, or have been compressed down into single or double-tier skills now, giving players more bang-for-buck with their skill point expenditure.

The new Red Skill Trees now look like this:

I really don't understand why they didn't give the WH1 lords red skills like in WH2 when they released Mortal Empires, then said for almost an year they won't update them because that would break old saves to finally do it (sort of) out of the blue.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

Seems like they had kind of assumed Mortal Empires wouldn't be nearly as popular as it turned out to be so they were kind of caught off guard.

I kind of feel like they were trying to play it out and update it all in TWW3,and realized that was just too long.

SFO is garbage and anyone who uses it has unsalvageable tastes.

After playing the latest release, I'm afraid you were right. I liked SFO when it was just fine tuning to battle mechanics and skills, now every faction has 5+ army stances and dozens of rando new units that may or may not be lore appropriate so uuuuhh... :negative:

Oof. That sounds quite different from the SFO I played in TW:WH 1. There, they made some very cool unit overhauls (basically making both unit strengths and weaknesses more pronounced) and introduced a few new units.
Didn't like the changes to buildings very much, but didn't care much about it, either.

What SFO does very well is to create a clear distinction between elite, line and cannon fodder units. All-elite armies are standard in vanilla by - basically - mid-game. In SFO, you'd be hard pressed to pull that off; the financial cost would be colossal. Instead, you learn to live with having multiple tiers of units in each army, up until the endgame. In addition to this, SFO also re-balances units to have a defined role, regardless of tier. For example, in vanilla Saurus Warriors < Saurus Warriors w/shields, no matter what, at a slightly higher cost. In SFO, Saurus Warriors have higher MA and WS than their shielded counterparts, making them better suited as a hammer.

of. That sounds quite different from the SFO I played in TW:WH 1.

They've added units, true.

They've added more army stances, true.

These things = shit overhaul? No.

I wouldn't call it shit based on that, of course.
But there is a point to make that you can make a game simply worse by just adding more and more stuff to it. One example of that would be that Dawn Of War Ultimate Apocalypse mod that just adds so many units, upgrades and abilities that the entire UI becomes an unreadable mess of buttons... Apocalpyse, indeed. Of usability.

Bloat is an affront to good game design and balance.

Adding like 3 units per faction in a Total War game isn't really comparable to that, though.

There's also this https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1199280148

The problem isn't the units specifically but the other stuff. I appreciate that they tried to rework grudges and stuff but do dwarves really need a "mining camp" stance? Do lords really need 3+ skill points each level, making early choices largely irrelevant? I loved SFO so much I even donated a few bux to the guy early on because he wasn't a massive fart-sniffing faggot like Radious and worked extremely quickly. Now it's a "team" and none of that seems to apply anymore.

How fucking hard is it to give the AI a couple of pre-determined army builds that it tries to follow? Look at this retarded shit.

I know, I'm asking why THE FUCKING DEVELOPERS aren't capable of doing what some random modder can do.

What's wrong with those builds?

Nice break from balanced AI armies. I run shit like 3 heroes 16 artillery in my armies as well.

CA is incapable of patching a bug that causes campaign crash for 2 months. Take a fucking guess.

My personal theory is that their entire programming team consists of an 16 year old Paki they snatched from the streets of London and keep tied up in the CA headquarters basement.

They heard you liked bloat, so they gave you some bloat.

I swear, SFO used to only give you 3 skill points on like the first level and then every 10th level or something. Seems like it's every level now? Can't find anything about it being changed, though.

Yeah, what's wrong with 15 bloated corpses, guys? It's only the worst unit in the entire game, but what's wrong with it?!

Next up: AI sieging settlements with 19 cavalry and a lord on a horse. A nice break from balanced AI armies.
