Guys, halp. I'm trying to play the 1993 X-Wing on Linux using k&m. But it asks for a joystick and then I cannot even get through the first screen. People keep saying on the net that the 1993 version should be playable without a joystick, and I distinctly remember playing it while furiously scratching the table with a mouse. So, could anyone give me some pointers?

I'd recommend playing the 1994 version, but anyway, I just installed the 1993 version on Linux and it works with the mouse without problems for me.

Edit: The only thing I could imagine is that you have some sort of controller connected to your PC, which dosbox recognizes and then X-Wing wants to calibrate it. Otherwise, with the dosbox setup from the GOG release, the mouse works

Just checked and connected my Joystick. Indeed, if it is connected, X-Wing will try to calibrate it. So something must be connected to your PC that Linux detects as a controller and Dosbox registers as a joystick. Either disconnect it, or change the configuration of Dosbox to not use any Joystick.

Thanks, to be frank I'm at a loss -- I don't have a joystick connected and X-Wing under DosBox behaves as if one was there. I'll dig deeper.

If you use the standard dosbox Linux installation and its start stript, just change joysticktype=auto to joysticktype=none in the dosbox_xwing.conf
