Remember your target market. In those 2 seconds it takes to go inside they could be drawn away from the game by a shiny object or a loud noise

If the mixing of cards and such has plenty of rules and lots of variety. I believe it would be a pretty fun magic system to toy with. I suppose that's what i get for playing card games as a younger child.

And i like the idea that they want "consequences" and choices that effect the world. If it is as "open" of an idea as their trying to put it off as... It may have potential.

And the "half-automatic" combat could have potential too. Not much is known about how it works. (Or at least by me, if someone has "bad" information i would take a look at it.)

It seems by what they've said, this game is going to have what most people here wanted oblivion to have(Less twitch-skill combat, choices that effect things, and consequences). They stated on that last interview you posted of it that they wouldn't have "meaningless" dialogue, but they would have enough dialogue choices that made an impact on things.

I just saw all the negative comments and decided to take the other end. Since i notice that alot of "the filler" people that post here like to just follow the crowd without really stating anything, and i don't know much more information about this game.

Talk about consequences... "Carrer changers" are the best proof of what consequences can you expect. I've seen that idea in Guild Wars: you can freely distribute points almost anytime (in safe areas) and when you fuck up a quest - no problemo! - just do it again...
Consequences are in games like Hammer & Sickle (not really an RPG but more RPG than some RPGs :): when I choose to stay in hospital to heal (no health potions) I miss some of the events (or even lose a game) because (guess what?) - panta rhei - the world (script :)) ain't waitin' for me.

This shit is going steady downhill.

What's sad is that Gothic 3 also has a way to redistribute skill points.

That is the single most worrying thing yet about G3. I still cannot believe they're doing it - wait and see I guess (and this is where track record comes into it).

I believe Bioshock is doing the same thing.

If these two games end up dumbed down....

On the other hand, Gothic seems to be doing it in a way that makes more sense - some ancient artifact or something like that. But why the fuck do it anyway? If the player wants to put points into something else, he can always just level up some more. And still, why would he? Unless they put in stupid stuff like needing Lockpick 125 to progress with the main quest, I don't see any reason the player would want to put many points into something else, right then, with that character.

Yeah, in cased you missed it, Gothic games traditionally have limited creature spawns exceptions notwithstanding.

I am sorta afraid it will be the same in Gothic3, especially since to many fans oppose reswpaning.

Oh, I despise the fuckers. You can't even debate with them, they slam some shit like "it may hurt the atmosphere" or "I don't want WOW" at you and that's the debate.

I don't know what is the origin (first game) of that idea (getting back spent points) but it's a damn stupid idea. It may be good in an arcade/console/japanese :) game about evolution (or morphing, changing whatever) but in RPG? Do you know any reasonable explanation how is that possible or why the fuck would you do that? Yes - mystics, yes - ancient artifact, yes - shitty game, shitty ideas. But if it will be a new standard? Oblivion is considered as something to aspire even if it's nihil novi sub sole.
Now do any of you know any legend or fairy tale or whatever about a hero who decided to "redistribute his points"?
Hmmm it's like editing a savegame, innit? I'm waiting for a game with god-mode enabled by default. Bethsoft i'm counting on you.
