via the installed browser plugin (why does a game DRM system have browser plugins?)

    https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4311264

If you have ever install an Ubisoft game, check your browser plugin page and disable the uplay plugin immediately.

That's pretty incompetent even for ubisoft.

You'd think hackers would know the difference between a rootkit and a browser plugin. I mean, they're not even close to the same thing.

I think "rootkit" is going the same route as "virus" in pop culture. Computer gamers aren't solely geeks/nerds anymore and the language of computer gaming is consequently becoming less precise.

It sounds cooler than "Browser Plugin" so sensationalist outlets will use it without caring about inaccuracy.

Also, fuck Ubisoft. With a spiky metal dildo.

Yeah, if they release any games in the next 2 weeks then some reviewers might be able to remember this and drop them down to a mere 8.5/10.

Trolls just regenerate any damage they take.

I don't either, and a google search proved unfruitful. Explain plz? Is a plugin allowed to access stuff it shouldn't, or something?

  19. Thanks for the heads up, bro. :greatjob:

I haven't got any of the listed games, but apparently Anno 2070 does it as well as I found the plugin.

A browser plugin is just your standard shit that you add to your browser for NEXTGEN bullshit to work. Stuff like flash.

A rootkit is a very low-level program that can actually hide itself from you, the OS, and anything else. Unless the author screws up it's almost impossible to remove one without formatting your drive.

That's not what the man asked.

A plugin is a separate process, a program that you need to download and install.

Extensions are runtime-interpreted pieces of code that your browser integrates into its own execution. Their power is limited to what the browser allows them to do.

Still didnt buy 1 game from them since they started with this shit. Why are people such tools, youre now even paying for a product anymore, looks more like a short term access to their game. Premium price, constant internet connection, downtimes and now this shit. Who knows, maybe Blizzard will brake the new low with their next game if they didnt already with Diablo 3.
Get bent people and take it with a smile while giving them money for the harassement.

I don't buy games with DRM like this for the simple reason of practicality - why settle with an inferior version that constantly gives me troubles when I can just get the torrent, copy the crack, and can just double-click the exe and the game starts without problems?

Which is why I can't understand these DRM schemes at all. What the fuck is the point if they just scare potential customers away, and the pirates manage to crack them anyway? What's the fucking point?
