"Old adventure games had bad art" is the new "old adventure games consisted of nothing but illogical puzzles." The classics were (and are) beautiful.

Also, regarding special effects, here are just a few that I remember, all done under super tight space constraints:

By the way, this is no slight to Ben Chandler who (1) is a great artist and (2) reveres the classics.

Well in that case I certainly wouldn't have loved Primordia much.
Nah, don't worry, I was poking fun at Roxor's reductive "technically true" statement and poor example in responce. I geniunely think Gabriel Knight has great aesthetics to this day.

You sure you wanna lecture me about that?
Anyway, you got me. I was under the impression you were making fun of technical limitations, my bad.

It's astounding that they manage to operate a computer by themselves with all that retardation.

I feel like this is the kind of disappointment our grandparents must feel when they look at us, unable to work 90 hour work weeks in a factory from the age of 11.

I've been playing this game for the last few days and it's pretty good. I like the graphics and the story. The puzzle are unfortunately not existing but the story and the idea of changing party members is good enough that the game is still fun. My only gripe is that some of the quests are simply "loop through all the characters four times to get all the clues".

If you put it like that I would say that it's a good interactive story, bad adventure game.

this really makes me wonder if roxors LP is just a fictional creation made to troll us, because the story seems to be absolutely awful

But hey, people thought aribeth was a cool character and jade empire had a surprising twist. I guess theres something really appealing about textbook genre melodrama.

Hey, there are people who think the ending of Blackwell Epiphany is good, I'd even say it's a common opinion judging by the Steam reviews, while I think it may be the absolute worst ending I've ever experienced in any media with some semblance of good writing otherwise.

I didn't think it was possible for WEG to go even lower than the retardo-on-a-stick that was Shardlight, but by Jove, Unavowed has done it. Its plot and characters are comparably idiotic, sometimes I'd say even more so, although it still doesn't have anything on escaping GitMo by dropping an anvil on the head of a guard, but it's certainly a much worse fucking game. In fact, it's not a game. It's a walking sim with dialogues.

And the way that the only two things that are supposed to make this shit "stand out", i.e. "party composition" and "moral choices", don't matter absolutely fucking at all in the end is one of the biggest slaps in the face I've received from an ~interactive entertainment product~ (no, I'm not calling it a game, fuck you) in recent years. As I said in the LP thread for this garbage, Dave Gilbert might as well just personally jump out of the screen at the final showdown and spit in your eye.

I'm done with Wadjet Eye. None of the things they've released/published/whatever since 2012 that I played was worthwhile, in fact everything that they have thrown out in the last 6 years was nothing but nonsense and garbo.

I wish them all the best with their new audience.
