[ Update ]

After whispering about it quietly on forums for a while, Ageod is now ready to talk about Vainglory of Nations loud and proud. It's their Victorian Era title due out sometime in the near future (2008 at the earliest). Here's what Philippe Thibaut had to say about it:

Vainglory of Nations is a historical strategy game, with a simultaneous turn-based engine, that sets the players at the head of the Great Powers of the world between 1850 and 1920. Eight nations are playable, either solo or multiplayer: USA, Great-Britain, Germany, France, Japan, Russia, Austria-Hungary and Italy. The game has the following set of Unique Selling Points below:

VAINGLORY OF NATIONS is a new unique concept from the original designer of EUROPA UNIVERSALIS, PAX ROMANA, GREAT INVASIONS, and the team of BIRTH OF AMERICA and AMERICAN CIVIL WAR where players are Victorian statesmen trying to find the best way ahead for their nations in the midst of uncontrolled captialistic expansion, commercial and technological changes, colonial and social conflicts and behind the doors great powers diplomatic negotiations.

Read the rest of the post for more details and a few prototype screens. I'm guessing at least a few Paradox fanboys will be interested in this.

Terrible name. "VainGlory" sounds like something you would pick up in a sex shop.

Conceptually I do like the things Thibaut puts out, but I believe he have some problems with design as for computer games. not to forget all the bugs.

I tried Pax Romana and played Great invasions for a while. Great invasions was just like I said, conceptually good, but design/UI -wise not as good.

Did Great Invasions ever get patched to a playable state?

Patch 1.07 is out, which made it less crashable for the brief time I played it. After having gushed in my review, I've come around more to Kris' point of view that it's just that bit too unwieldy, and that the AI just plain ain't good enough.
