Imma tell ya: if the dev team of a free-to-play FPS manages to pull off a half-decent RPG, I'll be impressed. And fuck the haters. :salute:

You are making me want to play both Vampire the Masquerade storytelling and the computer game. Sadly, only one of them is possible. :negative:

There's always the possibility that the 200 "abilities" include various reputations the player can "earn", possibly with some direct pros/cons (Diablerist: By consuming the soul of an elder vampire you have lowered your generation, however your foul act is visible to any who observes your aura.). NWN and NWN2 and a lot of mods for them did this, largely for engine reasons (journals aren't preserved on export but feats are, so if you gave the PC a feat that does nothing but says they did something or did it in a particular way you can check that if they were imported into part 2.)

Haha, managed to find what was on this Lead Animator job opening from February of last year. Here are the interesting bits:

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience creating realistic animation for human and non-human characters with an emphasis on acting performance.
  • Experience with facial animation and a strong understanding of character emotion and performance.
  • Strong interest in Video Games, storytelling, and Movies.
  • Brings a cinematic eye to convey emotion, weight, and momentum in gameplay and cinematics.
  • Enjoys collaborating with design and art teams to deliver great gameplay and storytelling experiences.
  • Experience in developing first-person action games.

There are mentions of "in-engine cinematics", "facial/lip sinc animations", "facial rigging and animation pipeline", and "Unreal Engine 4".

(You can read it in full here)

Interesting to see this level of graphical detail on non first person. That narrows genre down a lot (it can't be a strategy game ect.).

Third person only?
NWN2 style overhead free cam but special camera in dialog?
"I said it's not a first person shooter, not that it wasn't first person!" type dodge?

It's like the CD Projekt PR/marketing speak: "CP77 is not a first-person shooter; it's a first-person RPG with shooting mechanics!"

I'd say the last one.

That was all I could find of a prospective Vampire: The Masquerade game. It was fun while it lasted.

The tl;dr version:

The as-yet undisclosed game been developed by Hardsuit Labs on behalf of Paradox Interactive seems to be a single-player/story-driven first-person role-playing game (that's a mouthful). Taking everything we've discussed into account, Brian Mitsoda is IN (probably). I have no idea who's the lead designer, the lead writer, or the lead narrative designer on this project.

The difference is Fallout IS an RPG, while CP2077 is indeed a shooter. A rose by any other name, etc. Too bad the rose is covered in shit this time.
