World of Darkness Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 from Hardsuit Labs

I played a Bungie third-person brawler/shooter called Oni ages ago. Guns worked this way in it. I quite enjoyed the gameplay, mostly kicking things in the head interspersed with occasional pew pew pew.

I know it's gamey but it might work well for B2 as well.

(OTOH it's no more gamey than the ability to lug around a combat knife, baseball bat, katana, a couple of pistols, combat shotgun, assault rifle, and flamethrower while dressed up as a porny schoolgirl.)

It might turn out to be pretty interesting design in the end. PST didn't have sword and bows and shit and while it was different, strange and "stupid" it made the game unique and interesting in the combat parts of the game.

It's obvious to me that the point of this is that they don't want people to approach this game as a "shooter". Weapons are temporary, disposable, situational tools. You probably don't get to buy them and you don't find ammo either.

As far as I know you can buy weapons and you can find ammo. But Florian told me that the idea behind it was kind of in the first Matrix movie where they enter the lobby with lots of guns and just discard them when they are empty!

If you regularly come across ammo packs as you play the game but lose your weapon if you happen to use up your current stock then that would indeed be stupid, which is why I find it hard to believe that it's the case.

I'm imagining weapons in this game as similar to an arcade-style sidescrolling beat-em-up, where they're like power-ups that you find and use opportunistically.

So they are saying that every combat is prefaced with a ton of mooks with guns that you beat up to have guns lying around everywhere? Words can't describe how retarded that is. They want to turn one scene into an entire game!

They did bring up the comparison between this mechanic and action films where you see the protagonist fire until he's out of ammo, throw his current weapon away and go for another one, so I wouldn't be too sure on that.

Speaking of mods for Bloodlines, how is that Antitribu mod?

Would've been quite good if they only stuck to implementing new Clans and Disciplines. As it is currently, though, most of the changes made are quite idiotic, the new content is batshit insane and written in hilariously broken English, the balance is completely off etc.

Your most powerful enemies will not be other supernatural beings using their advanced powers against you, those you will go through like a knife through butter because the game throws an absolute fuckton of XP your way. No, the enemies you will fear the most are....... random human mooks with assault rifles. Even with Soak through the roof, any human with an AK-47 will shred you in about 2 seconds of focused fire. The only cure is to either play a Clan with Necromancy so you can summon bullet sponges or use companions, which is so goddamn immersion breaking and stupid it made my brain bleed.

As mentioned above, they added combat encounters in places where they have absolutely no reason on god's green Earth to be - you'll fight a Pander in front of the Ocean House hotel, Grout's wife wakes up and whips out a fucking Glock, a SWAT(?) team will attack you in the Red Dragon after your conversation with Wong Ho, you'll be fighting Scorpion and Sub-Zero in Chinatown (yes, really), you'll encounter some sort of a necromancer in Hollywood Graveyard which will trigger the start of a quest, but that quest will stay stuck that way forever because it's not finished and will never be.

They've added motherfucking platforming sections to the game, they've extended the cunting shit-snorting sewer section, instead of fighting Andrei in the mansion you'll fight Tremere Antitribu (you know, the same Tremere Antitribu that were wiped out to the last Vampire 5-6 years before the game events take place), you'll go through the city library after Hollowbrook Hotel and fight a goddamn ass-raping Lich (???), they've added a "puzzle" in the Tremere Chantry where you have to solve a linear equation with 4 variables and I feel my brain begging me to stop writing about it, so I'll let you experience the wonders of the mod yourself, should you choose.

He is shilling on behalf of Larian, just like he shilled on behalf of his tranny boyfriend at HBS. Stop trying to take away his Jew-gold, mon! The tool literally demanded a citation in a post where it was outright quoted.

Think of Dishonored, where your only firearm is a pistol with little ammo, because shooting isn't the point of the game. This is taking that one step further.

you mean a pistol that you don't throw away when you run out of bullets, and also you forgot to mention the dart thrower you wear on your wrist that can shoot various types of darts. at no point does the character throw it away if they've run out of ammunition. the point of dishonored is to play it how you want, including using projectiles. You also find ammo for both, and can buy them from stores, so I don't really know what you're going on about...

It could also be that weapons are far cheaper than in Bloodlines and don't really do major scaling like in it.

Or even better, they might be taking a note from Yakuza's playbook where (even if you can carry a few weapons, they aren't meat of the combat like fists are) almost everything around you is a potential weapon and the focus is in the use of those weapons for finishers that usually break them. At the very least the idea of disposable weapons via special attacks makes it sound like niggas are getting blasted properly:

And it needs to be stressed out again, vampires of WoD are inherently better at melee combat than gunfighting, both because of their resiliency against bullets (though I suppose this should be amended a bit in that in V5 the resiliency is just the same against knives et al as well, and since bite tag is out as well the real hardcore combat potential in core is solely in high-level Potence where Aggravated damage against everything kicks in) and because of their inherent ability to power up their physical strength above human limits (that STACKS with Potence) and several of their abilities contrary to B1 don't benefit firearms (Celerity does not work with guns for example; albeit V5 does add an Celerity/Auspex amalgam ability that is for guns; just as a sidenote, V5 also managed the marvelous feat of unbreaking Celerity).

I mean... he's one of the sole owners of the legendary double dumbfuck tag, so.. yes?

His gimmick is still way more entertaining than Sailor or Safav's though.
