Norton AntiVirus GOMtv World Invitational 2009 is Warcraft 3.

Averatec-Intel Classic and Star Invitational is Starcraft, as is Valor Tournament (although that's not free).

There's also some WoW Arena stuff but who gives a fuck.

I watch the games regularly. It's fun to see the difference between the older players like July and the younger players like Flash and Jaedong. The english commentary is quite nice, since you can actually see how little techniques the players use actually add up to dictate the ebb and flow of battle.

i watch most of these live from the OSL/MBC streams or livestreams if the former dont work.

These guys are just insane. Starcraft is a great spectator game tbh.

I watch from OSL, too. GOMTV is really nice in terms of its commentary, though. Unfortunately, with too few subscribers, they're recently plugging ads right before the game more frequently to cover the costs. I watch Warcraft 3 sometimes, but it's not as entertaining. 2D rocks--every unit has a unique silhouette and the details are just so clear that you know exactly what's happening in Starcraft MP.

Watching people play sports is faggotry because most of the time the viewers don't play the sport themselves and because sports are not very sophisticated from a game design perspective (basically for boring consoletards). Now I'd like to see some DotA commentaries because it's more of a teamplay game.

Well, for most Americans, watching another person play games is the most boring thing in the world. In Asia, though, most people enjoy watching others play. The arcade scene in Japan is hardly dead. Koreans have built their gaming culture around LAN games in internet cafes (they refused to import consoles from Japan in the 90s) and China has always had a very communal culture.

What the fuck does arcade have to do with spectators? Even more so, what the fuck do Internet Cafes have to do with spectators?

If you've been to Japan and Korea, you'll know that people watch players as they play in these places. In Korea particularly during the 90s (when I went there) shops would actually charge people just to stay inside the shop and watch. Don't ask me why, it's a cultural thing. That's why Starcraft became a spectator sport in Korea, and that's why slow paced 3d fighting games are popular in Japan (they are easier to watch).

Yeah, WC3 is fun to play but to watch you pretty much have to be constantly thinking about the weird unit matchups and the timings and everything if you want to have any idea whats going on or whose ahead. SC is simple enough that you can pretty much just watch and enjoy the show.

The great thing is that I've actually played in pubs with some of these players. Another difference compared to watching sports.

Yeah, DOTA is ok to watch too, since the spell/ability use is pretty manageable. If the players are good, then some of the tedium of the early game disappears.
