Used to make great games but nowadays spews bullshit for a living, and yet is still by and large beloved by the gaming world? The Molyneux comparison is apt, I'd say.

The type of background and skill set that was good for making games in the 80's wasn't necessarily the best for making games in the 90's and afterwards. There's a reason so many of the pioneers of gaming have fallen by the wayside. Just saying.

Dude, what are you even writing about.

Focusing on high- end visuals, really? Accusation would be 100% true in 2000, but not now. There's nothing wrong with squeezing as much as it is possible from a hardware platform; it's a masterwork of programmers and years ago, it bought Amiga few years more. But developers don't do it really. They'd rather hide their slacking behind shader- based filters. Propably the most innovative workaround of crappy hardware was ID Software 'megatexture' used in Borderlands. Not that it gave any exceptionally good visuals, though.
Thing would be more viable if it's about full voice acting and other nextgen bullshit.

As for violence, fail is on you. Remember, I underlined it's about the most of games, not few exceptions. Darksiders, you say, really. Not even Devil May Cry or God of War, but Darksiders. What is this, compared to Blood, Soldier of Fortune, hell, even completely old and mediocre games, like Witchaven? Yeah, we still got Mortal Combat and shit, but look at the majority of action games.. Pitful explosions of blood (those black drops, I guess it's blood?) immediately disappearing, or ragdolls the engine cut out the strings of, with little blood splat, thats's all what they have to offer today. Fuck, even vanilla Quake 2 conatins mor eexplicit violence than Skyrim or COD. Other games- Fallout 3, Max Payne 3- I consider it a failed presentation, as I wrote earlier.

And don't forget: action games are about violence and pope raped little children.

When you shot somebody in the face in Operation Flashpoint the texture changed to a mangled smeared mess of gore and stayed that way. Same happened to limbs and torso - a quick texture switch depending on the severity of the wound, from the mild to the monstrous. I still miss that in Arma 2. Why is that not in Arma 2?

After Epicus Mickeymus Spector will go on to make mobile/casual games like every other once-celebrated-but-now-failed dev.

See also: John Romero, Alex Seropian, Lord Shittish, blah blah etc

Those complete animations of people getting shot in the face or knifed in the throat in Modern Battlefield Spec Combat Warrior whatever (war FPS/3PS games, I can't keep track of the names) are pretty damn horrifying to me as a dude that has not played any war violence games in many years.

If Spector made another Deus Ex today it would probably turn out worse than HR.
