From what I got out of it, Two Thrones iterated on what was the most fun: the platforming. It aped God of War not in its tryhard edgyness but with its boss fights (only 1 of the 3 I think, the other was just like in the first 2). Combat was shit in all entries, but I do hear you when you say Warrior gave you more space to tackle some objectives first. It actually reminded me of Metroid Dark Echoes, shame the environments didn't radically change when switching between present/past. I guess I was just so surprised by how well they handled Farah in Thrones. It was great to see her from a different light, and the chemistry that worked so well. Also, I dug how the secrets had obstacles tied to them this time around too. Also, for whaterever reason the prince take 8+ sips of water whenever trying to save in God of Warrior. I really dug the series on the whole. Are any of the later titles worth a look?

is it just me or is there a complete lack of level design here. I mean, when missions take place in the map it's so fucking painful. tail this turd here, tail further, kill him with 1 button press. win. at least the "dungeons" give you more agency than following some npc. do they keep doing this shit past AC2?

3 is a bad game. 4 is a good game when you're playing Pirates-lite, rather than AC. When you're forced to leave your ship and play AC it's still bad. Never played the rest of the games in the series, but I'm going to assume still bad.

Was having a blast with The Witcher 3. Picked up an old save and finally made it into Skellige. The amount of content is simply staggering.

But then those assholes that make Battle Brothers had to go and release another massive and rather amazing beta update and now I can't stop playing that. It's infuriating. Awesome. But infuriating.

Played the Battle Brothers alpha. Dudes have a chance to hit of 50 percent and die or kill with 2 or 3 hits. Its bonkers. Its a bit too random.
So it leads to the usual Mount and Blade xp grind. Find easy targets. Make profit, levels, armor. Win easy peasy.

Kind of depressing that I finally played Dead Rising (2), after having appreciated the core tenets of it from afar (like the timer giving everything opportunity cost) all the way back in the everything-is-shit AAA era, only to discover they just made Dead Rising 4 and dumbed down everything about it (as in, they're removing the timer and making it a typical shit open world) and brought back the series' main character in the form of an unbearable memefuck.

It's in Early Access, they haven't even started on the endgame content for the game.

What you can do now:

# Muck about in the ocean, doing the Survival thing.

# Explore the spaceship wreck.

# Build a small sub.

# Build a base (that can house your little sub).

# Build a bigger sub (that can also house your little sub).

# Explore the handful of islands in the game.

# Build an exosuit.

# Get eaten by the huge sea monster.

# Explore the depths. Current max depth is 1700m, but there's nothing there at the moment.

My advice? Check back on it in a year or so.

Just finished the 2 AC2 expansions and was left really jaded. It seems like they just created the sandbox and quickly splattered the missions around in it. The game is at its best during the more directed sequences (the tombs, interiors) but I really dislike how little control the game gives you. Prince of Persia was much better than this. I'll check out Forgotten Sands next.

Just started Throne of Bhaal in BG2. Hadn't played BG2 in years and I'd forgotten lots of it so enjoying that

Also Call of Juarez Gunslinger, which sat on my shitlist for ages, but it turns out it's pretty great. The semi-unreliable narrator thing is an interesting feature, sometimes you'll play a part and then he'll remember it went a bit differently and the game actually takes you back to play out the memory properly

Combat here is way better than I was led to believe previously. It is similar to the Bateman Arkham games, but only you actually have to develop some muscle memory to get the timing of the combo system so you can get better at dealing with enemies. The closest comparison I can think of is links in fighting games such as Street Fighter in that in order to link 2 normals together, there is a specific timing involved. Sometimes that window is only 1 frame, and really difficult to consistenly pull it off unless you use plinking which extends that 1 frame link into 2 frames. However, in Remember Me, it is much easier in comparison. The idea is that you press your next button for the combo as soon as you land the hit; so you'd press an attack button, wait till it hits, and then quickly press the next attack button. Luckily all the attack animations seem to have the same length so the timing is usually the same. That being said, even in later parts of the game, I'd still occasionally drop a combo.

Another thing that differentiates it from the Arkham games is that there is no counter for when an enemy attacks, there is only a dodge that you can do. If you dodge in the specific direction where you jump over an enemy, you still keep your combo chain. Any other direction and you drop your combo which wouldn't matter if it wasn't for the "customizable" aspect to the combo system. An interesting aspect where each attack (with the exception of the first one) has specific properties and animation. So there is 4 types of attacks: one for dealing damage (Power), another for healing (Regen), shortening cooldown on special abilities (Cooldown), and another that doubles the effect of the previous move (Chain). The farther down a move is in the combo, the greater the effect so if you manage to land a 6-hit combo that ends with a Regen attack, you'll heal way more than you would if it was on the 2nd hit of that 6-hit combo.

I love the idea of this, but unfortunately you only have 4 preset combos (i.e. first combo is 3 punches, the next one is Kick Punch Kick Punch Kick) throughout the game so the only thing you can really customize is in what order goes specific properties. Enemies themselves are also fairly standard for the most part, and there is enough variety. Certain enemies can only defeated with certain abilities. Like you can only kill robots with your projectile, invisible enemies are invulnerable unless bait them into an area tha has light or you use one of your special abilities that's like a ground pound, etc. Certainly way more variety and more challenging than Arkham Asylum (only Arkham game I played).

As for everything else, the music is great, the levels are incredibly linear (but look great in general), platforming is alright (it's like AssCreed so nothing interesting) and the story is fairly straightforward that tries to explore the aspect of how much of our identity is based on our memories. In between each episode we get an introspective cutscene of Nilin who ponders about her current predicament that she's in, and questions her actions as she has no memory of her life so she can only follow those who seem to know her since she's a fugitive. However there is no real resolution to that because it turns out that she was on the right side all along despite whatever atrocities she helped commit.

It's an interesting world for sure in some ways. People don't seem to be all that much better at remembering things despite the digitalization of memories, the brain implant that allows people to go over their memories, supress them, upload them to the net, share them with specific people, memory-based issues that degrade the human body based on all these different aspects that developers cooked up for the game. It's a shame we just didn't get a more interesting story from it.

playing a bunch of popamole right now. Call of duty 1, Halo 2 and FEAR. FEAR was good but man the repetitiveness hits really hard, Halo 2 is better than Halo CE but that isn't saying much. It is the most fun one out of all 3. COD 1 is ok, very different in design from the later games in the franchise.

ALL YOU DO IS SHOOT SHIT. Every mission. Escort someone, deliver something, pick up something? Shoot something at some point. And the AI is the same for everything. There's no difference between Bob the Pirate and Alf the Alien in combat. There's no difference between systems; nebula, mine field, asteroids - doesn't matter. Space stations are all the same. Upgrades just change your dam redux or damage pretty much, no visual changes. Some differences between loadouts but once you discover what beam turrets can do there's no point in anything else.

But, graphically it's nice, in exteriors, interiors not so much. And the music though it gets repetitive is noice. And it's strangely satisfying blowing the fuck out of shit even if it's the same shit repeatedly.

That's Rebel Galaxy if you couldn't guess already.

same controls as Sands Trilogy, combat is much easier and, hey, anything that expedites the combat is fine by me. the environmental puzzles are good and I really like the water solidification mechanic. took some screens to demonstrate NEW obstacles I've never encountered (on uplay so will upload later). Let's see if they push the new mechanic.

already having a much better time than w/ any of the Ass Creed games. I think it's the input the games requires that make this more interesting. Ass Creed felt like a tourist simulator w/ poor combat and traversal.

Currently doing backlog on my Vita.

Finished Persona 4 Golden. I already played it few years back but back then i didn't finish it (stopped right after Rise rescue). I am honestly surprised how much content does that game has.

I mean it took me 70 hours from which only like 5-10 hours i was actually dungeon crawling. Rest of that was VN.
Last year i also finished Persona 3 on PSP and i must say that Persona 4 story despite younger cast is way better and more fun to "play"

Next i will probably try Persona Q on 3DS. IT is straight up SMT dungeon crawler just with persona theme.

Warrior Within has fucking amazing story make sure you play it.

Finished all 3 from trilogy and first one was ok, second one is masterpiece, 3rd dropped quickly because it was mediacore as fuck.

Another solid adventure. combat is actually enjoyable thanks largely due to a new kick ability the Prince has which can be used to set up hilarious kills. It reminds me of the kick from Dark Messiah. The platforming is the same as before save for some changes I'm not too happy with: you can no longer jump left or right when hanging on a ledge, and I think riding down banners has been automated. I liked being able to "quick jump" from pillars, and the new ability to run up walls when jumped to. The real highlight however is the ability to switch platforms on or off (for the most part pillars, walls and poles). It adds a fresh (hue hue hue) element to the platforming and makes the game stand out from the trilogy. It really does open up new opportunities that test your timing and even finds itself into puzzles. This, along w/Warrior Within, omitted the cockblock puzzle that showed up in Sands (pillars jigsaw) and Thrones (statue). One thing that did piss me off though, and this was also present in the trilogy, is that almost always when you enter a new "room" the game takes control away from you and pans around to show you where you should be going. Thankfully they are skippable and you quickly learn which of the cutscenes are of the signposting sort versus the story related ones. All in all a more than solid entry in the series. Mechanically superior to all previous games since it starts and builds from where they left off, but it does lack heart from the first game, and the third (yes, I dug the Prince's struggle against his ego and reuniting w/Farah).

Perkel I found Warrior Within to be more enjoyable mechanically than Sands (smoother camera, movement, improved combat) but the presentation was a huge turn off. Could you share what you enjoyed about the narrative? I was harsh in giving it 2 trolls, since I DID enjoy the gameplay. I liked the Nemesis chase sequences, but hated the bait-and-hit bosses. I liked that Thrones was more ambitious w/ its bosses, interjecting platforming into them. Sadly, this title only has one real encounter that tries it, but does so successfully. The final boss is a joke and left me feeling dry (hue hue hue).

Now then, should Prince of Persia '08 be avoided at all costs? I see it has the same director as Warrior, Thrones, and Forgotten. How bad could it be?



Call of Duty 2
finally got around to finishing this one. while the game does repeat the same beats throughout its campaign, it looks and feels great to play. the sound is incredible and it's got the triumphant music booming in the background. I would say that despite its not even attempting to do a stealth mission, COD 1 tried but failed to replicate MoH:AA's, the shooting and relentless paces more than makes up for it. A lot of the defense type missions come back, though I wish the game would have tried new challenges. Maybe stripping you of weapons, forcing you to use a pistol. This, along with AA, are my two favorite war single player shooters. My only real gripe with it, and it's one that still continues w/even the modern COD games is that enemies feelt weightless in combat. It almost feels like you're shooting down targets. FEAR, Max Payne 3, even Brothers In Arms, w/its gore, had combat that was more cathartic. All in all, a hell of a time, just make sure to take breaks in between.
