It is ever present in the discussions here, the inevitable, elusive and allencompassing decline. But everyone seems to have a different idea of what the decline truly is. The last worst rpg/most decline thread I could find was 2017 so here we go again. I polled a few often mentioned contenders but I probably missed the most important ones. So which of these disappointed you the most?

I wouldn't say I was disappointed per se, but UA was unforgivably bad. Glitchy and some pretty crazy game design choices, all using a "classic" name.

    How are we defining decline?
Bland games that kept depth in systems or games that were downgrades in gameplay?

Dragon Age 2 & Oblivion for gameplay.
any nu-cRPG released in the renaissance for blandness. That includes PoE, Torment, Shadowrun, Underrail, Atom, and other bland shit that's been wiped from my memory.

    Where's Witcher 1 and 2?
    Where's Dragon Age: Inquisition?
    Where's Diablo 1?
Also, I think you meant Might&Magic 9, not 10. 10 was decent, if nothing to write home about.

Google was shite apparently. But I was mostly inspired by seeing someone call someone else a fag for calling tw3 the worst decline, so i wanted to see how the codex is thinking atm. I actually like a few games from the list, its just mentions I see reurgitated inside threads occassionally.

Easily Fallout 3. I played 1 -> 2 -> NV before I bought it, thinking that it can't be THAT bad. Turns out it was even worse, the kind of shit that makes you want to lobotomize yourself by putting sharp pencils in your nostrils and banging your head against the table.

I unistalled that turd and swore never to buy anything by Bethesda ever again, and I've held on to that. Also I research much more carefully before playing anything nowadays. (Not always before buying, though; my backlog is full of numeneras and deadfires that I'll probably never even install...)

Dragon Age 2 for its awesome button and homo anime characters, especially after the promising Dragon Age Origins. And Fallout 3, for cementing the decline Oblivion formula.

Also, Mass Effect 2 & 3, for turning Mass Effect into a generic third person shooter.

Oblivion. That's the one game that turned Jarl from optimistic teenager expecting games to become better and better to jaded old prick who expects everything to be shit.

Oblivion had it all: it turned a rich and imaginative setting into bland and generic fantasyland, it reduced the amount of features, it introduced level scaling, and it introduced the quest compass. Decline in each and every single aspect of the previous games.

Pretty hard for the first game in a series from a new dev to be decline. Decline from where? Its gotta be exceptionally bad for that.
I have never seen someone hate MMIX here and I lurked for some months. X gets flak occassionally. I tried to write the list as unbiased as possible, there are a lot of points on there I dont agree with. I like X aswell.

As for Dragon Age Inquisition: I should have definitly added that. My train of thought was that nobody had expected anything from the game after DA 2, but hope dies slowly in some people.

Civ V. A game for the snowflake generation, coming after the best PC game ever made (Civ IV).

But if I have to restrict myself to RPGs, I will vote for the cashgrab named DA2. I have not played many of Bethesda's games, and I fully expected FO3 to be terrible, so it did not affect me much.

This one is interesting, I havnt heard that one yet. Mind explaining why? I am quite dense for not recognising sjw stuff, but playing through it nothing stroke me as feministic. There were pretty much no memorable female characters in the game for me. Only thing that stuck with me was the bad combat system and the amazing confrontations with the judge and the general from the purple undead army.

There's been too much decline to say which is the worst exactly, but Guild Wars 2 came to mind first.

Besides Fallout 3 (for obvious reasons) I nominate Neverwinter Nights.
There are good things about the game. Player-created modules and multiplayer servers were pretty good. However as far as the base-game goes this is one of the best examples of decline in the industry. First we get one of the best RPGs out there: Baldur's Gate 2. Party of 6 people, top down view, tactical combat, best story Bioware ever written, inter-companion banter, fortresses, instant classic. The game was inclined even compared to some of the contemporaries.
Then Neverwinter comes out. You control 1 character, you get one AI companion, the graphics are this ugly blocky, early 3D, the plot is a snoozefest, the gameplay consists of mindlessly whacking hordes of samey enemies. Then KoTOR 1 came out and everything went downhill.

Voted Oblivion before I even read the rest of the list. Morrowind is one of my favorite games of all time, and Oblivion is the most "kicked in the balls" a game ever made me feel.

Fallout 3 clearly, as it most obviously exemplifies the complete and utter defiling of a classic RPG into pants on head retardation.

Oh and fuck you OP for making another pointless and stupid newfag poll.
