Is Kiwami actually worth it ?
I played Yakuza 1 back then, and the blend of visual upgrades for dated mechanics tend to produce a very awkward feeling.

Yes. Most refined combat to date (not sure about Fist or Kiwami 2, haven't played them yet).

What the fuck? XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD This is the most retarded move in the history of videogames. They basically changed nothing, just added a few wrinkles on the face. I hope they can sleep good now, they blew some money to gain nothing. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDJfisfosauofjacfoihcf oidfioenmpofxdjoaifhes

lmao suspicion of drug use.
un japan IIRC, rate of conviction is more than 99% or something. once you are caught, even if you are innocent, you will likely go to jail and your name smeared forever. that is why ace attorney's guilty until proven innocent are actually criticism toward japan's crazy judicial system and very popular in japan. i think japan have the rhighest rate of false conviction among developed world or something.

Yeah it's something strange like the Japanese police can hold you indefinitely without charging you with anything so a lot victims just admit guilt to get the process going. You know there are a lot of innocent people in jail when police close that many cases.

it's funny that if he just cannibalized a woman like a normal person instead of doing drugs he would be in better social standing.

Not just the cops really, the courts also operate like this which is why every careerist in law there wants to be prosecutor and never defendant and judges suffer career-wise for non-guilty verdicts, because what matters is how many cases you win and the assumption is that it's guilty until proven innocent. Similarly, Japan doesn't have a jury system since the military government. But, a consideration to be made is that in Japan fewer people who are arrested are charged (17.5% compared to 45% in Kwa) since they still want to present you as guilty until proven innocent, or at least until you confess.

(This sort of stuff is probably why it's easy to see on the cultural meta level why Kiryu would rather live outside the law in the underground)

Well one thing is that Japan has a ridiculously high level of stigma against drug use, but the other kind of important factor is that Issei Sagawa's crime and court case was so strange and unique. It's not like Sagawa had what normal people could consider a social standing beyond being a curiosity for a while, he still struggled earning a living and was on welfare until his cerebral infarction (after which he has been full-time in care of his immediate family).

Going to be a good night, men.

Now if only I didn't have to go to work first. Yakuza launch day always feels like Christmas morning to me as a kid. I should really just start taking the day off when it comes.

Had to give it a quick test launch. Runs absolutely beautifully. Not a single slow-down or stutter with every setting maxed out.

Holy shit I love this new engine so far. Not only is it absolutely gorgeous, but walking into some of my favorite Kamurocho establishments from 0 and Kiwami SEAMLESSLY is so cool. Also really like what I'm seeing with the fleshed out RPG elements and combat. God I love these games.

Agree. Yukaza Kiwami 2 is so worth it though. Though, I tend to weave my Yakuza playthroughs through several others. I generally play Yakuza a couple nights a weeks, not because I don't want to play, but because I want it to last longer.

I got Yakuza 6 two weeks ago and no joke I probably spent 10 to 15 minutes in first person just walking and looking around Tenkaichi Street when the game first drops you into Kamurocho. Drop dead gorgeous and finally current-gen looking. I also loved the revamped combat (which many people didn't like coming off of 0 or other games which is understandable), but I heard they dialed down some changes to make it similar to other games in Kiwami 2.

Can't wait to buy K2 and check out the Kamuro Hills and Champion's District areas (leaving those areas out in Y6 was a fucking sin).

The biggest change you notice going from 6 to K2 is that the engine's performance is much more refined and smooth. In 6, the Dragon Engine often starts slowing down when multiple transparent windows are present. Doesn't happen in K2.

In terms of the gameplay changes, the most notable one is that you have to encounter teachers again to learn certain abilities, whereas in 6 quite understandably the only demand is XP, and you again have the ability to carry weapons for later use.

(Also Kamurocho Hills aren't in K2, they haven't been built yet at that point in the timeline, though you do visit the construction site)

I think Kamuro Hills in its completed form has been only in Yakuza 5 and Dead Souls.

Is it weird I'm expecting an opening before the main menu but there isn't one?

Was there just no opening in the original Yakuza 2?

Original Yakuza 2 had an opening, yeah

It is strange that this game lacks one.

I think they just decided to stop doing them with Yakuza 6? That doesn't have an opening before menu either.

Judge Eyes (sort of) has its own opening. It's different from the older Yakuza ones such as it avoiding to show in game cutscenes and apparently it's shown after Chapter 1 of the game but hey, it's something I guess.
