    As far as I can tell that's by design, it used to be that even your shield would mostly or completely drain by the time the fight started, that was changed so your shield only turns on at the start of the fight during the initiative rolls.

    A game with parry mechanics usually allows you to keep moving forward against the odds, but that is something that's not very popular in the FPS genre, at least not the ones with guns.

    Indeed, I guess it might be balanced so that at default speed you consume double movement points per tile or something, but keep most of your focus, and then you speed up from there. I actually thought an ability that lets you move at very high MP/AP costs but lets you keep Focus would be cool...
