Gold Box I played the NES port of Pool of Radiance for a bit; this game is terrible

I think I would prefer if they only surrendered and were removed from the maps (that's how Disciples of Steel does it I think? I can't remember if sometimes they try to flee) and never literally run away because when they're stuck and can't flee I think it defeats the purpose a bit as the fight...

    Vapourware Codexian Game Development Thread

Love the dithering, your game looks pretty good (already better than any of my games, not that it's a feat ;) ). In window mode in this small window and with this art style it makes me think on some cool DOS sharewares I would be super happy to find among a list. Things like Maze Quest are the...

Realms of Antiquity: The Shattered Crown - Ultima-like retro RPG

Everyone who completed it seemed to say it's a bit more than 100 hour long.

Thanks, I'm not sure when I'm going to play the game but I just bought it.

    The Japs do everything better

That's a terrible argument, there's a wide range in both cases yet in both cases the good ones are the one which just play (and look) like Wizardry or Pool of Radiance, everything else is garbage. Original Final Fantasy is great because it replaces the bad aspects of Ultima by better ones from...

Incline Which RPG Should I Play Next #4: Episode 1

I've played 4 in the list plus a demo, though 3 of these are favourites of mine. Death Knights of Krynn is one of my favourite in the series, the structure is probably the closest to Pool of Radiance, compared with Champions of Krynn here the quest is non-linear and the world is really open...

Indie Lair Of The Leviathan - old school turn-based rpg based on classics such as Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Phantasie, Ultima and the SSI Goldbox games.

This could be fun, I like the structure and handcrafted layouts, don't mind the blobber combat, in theory don't mind random encounters and won't mind the pregen chars with attached storylines and quests as long as there's no special one among them.

Games you've changed your mind about

I used to play online games quite a lot as a teenager, Age of Empires 2 then Warcraft 3, now I get angry at the idea that online gaming even exists, kind of. As a kid I thought the difficulty of traditional adventure games was insane to the point they were not fun, playing the average ones of...

    The Japs do everything better

Yes, loot in JRPGs is generally like in Wizardry or The Bard's Tale with items with a name you get randomly and you get one or two items after a fight, I never had any problem with this kind of systems, it's fine (by the way Wasteland 2 uses that system and I liked it too while it got trashed...

    The Japs do everything better

I think a "traditional" (in the sense of something like Final Fantasy 7) JRPG which does not waste your time and present some challenge would be Breath of Fire : Dragon Quarter. You can probably emulate it very easily and it takes like 15 hours to beat. Obviously just like I don't think...

Upcoming and future role playing games

Interesting to see this turned into a full game, the version from the jam was very short yet promising.
