    Grimoire gameplay and hints thread

It depends. Provided you stick your finger in it before you enter Retardoland, and complete the puzzle (the runes are "And" + "Hair" + "A"), it allows you to cast the Detect Butthurt spell and in the journal it links you to an article from The Economist which is the key to understanding...

Pillars of Eternity Beta Discussion [GAME RELEASED, GO TO NEW THREAD]

Not that it will ever happen in this game, but I've always wondered about the need for high numbers? Heck, cap human ability at 5 in any given stat and make 3 the average. Then you get like 2-3 points to assign, meaning you can't max more than one stat without gimping yourself in some area, and...

Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity [BETA RELEASED, GO TO THE NEW THREAD]

You want the feeling that mages are like 1/100,000 people or so, not half the clientel at the local pub.

Save RPG magic by making every player character a mage?

Magic should be powerful and pretty much the only way to get out of seemingly impossible situations (the game should be played in Ironman mode, meaning that you would risk it), but magic should be volatile. I like what you say about procedurally generated costs for magic - why not have...

Save RPG magic by making every player character a mage?

The way most RPG's would have it, magic users are little more than humanoid artillery pieces dressed in robes. A lone wizard could incinerate armies with a mere gesture, a cleric would be a one-man hospital who could cure every disease, heal any wound and raise people from the dead if need be...

Which is the most depraved RPG Community?

I marvel at the fact that what began as an outgrowth of T-A became this place.

    Skyrim manual scans

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't hesitate to cut the innards out of anyone I'd catch looking wrongly at the outer wall of the place where I keep my Arcanum manual, but these things are hardly needed for PC games anymore. A pdf or a wiki does the trick just as nicely.

Your most memorable, awesome quest in RPG?

The Oceanside Hotel in VtMB. Actually had to finish it in broad daylight.

    Scary RPGs?

Scaling of equipment and enemies take care of that. ... which is what happens when you pay attention to all the features that are removed every year in the name of streamlining. What about not being able to run away? DA2 is a horror game!

"RPG Glory days" when were yours?

What I would call my glory days constitutes a fairly long period of time; say '94 to '04 or something like that. It began with JRPG's on our SNES in the mid 90's: Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger etc (was introduced to fantasy literature and PnP around the same time). I suppose...

    Ressurection in RPGs

Another possibility with resurrection which to my knowledge has never been thoroughly explored in an RPG is treating it like an equilibrium. Well, there's TNO and the fact that someone in the multiverse would die each time he was revived to fuel his rebirth, but that's about it. So, you...

    Ressurection in RPGs

What if it required demonic possession of some sort? Oh, sure, you managed to squeeze your companion's soul back into their cooling corpse but hey, something else made its way in too.
