Clockwork Revolution - inXile's steampunk time travel first-person action-RPG led by Chad Moore and Jason Anderson

IMO Arcanum had pretty good art direction as well as an excelent soundtrack. Clockwork Revolution just looks a dumb person's idea of what a critique of capitalism should be. Case in point, the treadmill:

Eternity Avowed - Obsidian's first person action-RPG in the Pillars of Eternity setting - coming Fall 2024

Obsidian doesn't seem to know how to sell this game. For all their flaws, Bethesda made sure to put emphasis on everything they thought would make people like their game, namely how massive it is. They also showed things like space battles, the player character highjacking a ship, a space...

The time travel part seems interesting. The art direction, on the other hand, looks really bad.

Eternity Avowed - Obsidian's first person action-RPG in the Pillars of Eternity setting - coming Fall 2024

True, but there's no way for MS to give all those studios a direction. They're probably testing them so they can separate the wheat from the chaff. And the best way to do it is to let them do whatever they want, within reason of course, and see which of them can be successful.

Eternity Avowed - Obsidian's first person action-RPG in the Pillars of Eternity setting - coming Fall 2024

I agree that Sony games have an audience. But it took them decades to carefully mold their studios into what they are today: a bunch of movie games factories. MS just aquired a bunch of new studios that couldn't be more different from each other. Even if they had the resources, do you think...

Eternity Avowed - Obsidian's first person action-RPG in the Pillars of Eternity setting - coming Fall 2024

Sony studios were heavily influenced by Naughty Dog and Uncharted. So if in one hand you get a bunch of critical darlings, on the other all you get are different flavors of movie games. Microsoft just bought a bunch of studios and has no idea what do with them. If I were a manager I would prefer...

Eternity Avowed - Obsidian's first person action-RPG in the Pillars of Eternity setting - coming Fall 2024

If they're trying to sell this game on it's writing and worldbuilding, this trailer did a really poor job. All you get are hints about your character being some kind of chosen one, which is pretty unremarkable even by current year gaming standards. The only good news is that the game won't try...

Dragon Age Dragon Age: Dreadwolf - full reveal in Summer 2024, Solas fangirls rejoice

I think they're too busy playing Assassin's Creed.

Dragon Age Dragon Age: Dreadwolf - full reveal in Summer 2024, Solas fangirls rejoice

They don't even know who they are anymore. Their games used to have a few distinctive traits that set them apart from their competitors. Even if some of those traits were controversial, they helped to shape their identity as a company. This sounds as generic as an Ubisoft game. The scariest...

Dragon Age Dragon Age: Dreadwolf - full reveal in Summer 2024, Solas fangirls rejoice

I was really surprised when both the critics and the public had such a negative reaction to Andromeda. Not because the game didn't deserve it, but because most of the criticism directed at it could just as easily be targeted at Inquisition. It's interesting to see how a game that was critically...

Dragon Age Dragon Age: Dreadwolf - full reveal in Summer 2024, Solas fangirls rejoice

Even if you argue the maps are not truly open world, it does make a difference. Compare the size of the maps to the ones in DAO or DA2. The amount of resources Bioware had to spend to fill those maps with content probably took a toll on the studio. I think this explains, at least in part, why...

Dragon Age Dragon Age: Dreadwolf - full reveal in Summer 2024, Solas fangirls rejoice

Bioware had never done a open world game before Inquisition. IMO, the empty maps, copy paste encounter design and terrible writing is more a consequence of trying to scale the usual Bioware standard on a much bigger game. That's only a partial explanation though, since the main quest was still...

Dragon Age Dragon Age: Dreadwolf - full reveal in Summer 2024, Solas fangirls rejoice

Interesting that they consider Inquisition to be a success. Regardless, having a team of experienced developers was certainly a saving grace for the company. The games they produced weren't always good. In fact, I'd say quite a few were either mediocre or downright awful. But I'm curious if the...

    Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard

Don't get me wrong, I agree with that part. And Microsoft seems to be doing the same in the gaming market, or at least trying to. I don't care about any product Activision Blizzard owns, and the same goes for Bethesda. But if that deal goes through, it might trigger another wave of fusions that...

    Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard

That seems to be revenue, not profit. https://entertainmentstrategyguy.com/2020/05/04/the-2019-star-wars-business-report-toys/#:~:text=Well%2C%20it%20wasn't.,sales%20for%20Disney%20every%20year. That's still a healthy 250 to 500 million every year. But there's no way Lucas would have sold...
