What game are you wasting time on?

Rejuvenating health Two weapon bullshit Boring open maps with nonexistent level design That about covers it

Emulation central - recommendations in 1st post

High internal resolution + downsampling to 1x with a good crt shader (I'm partial to gtu-v050 in Retroarch). Very good experience.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered from Aspyr - for real this time

There was definitely shit hardware back then, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as now. Anyway, the shitty hardware is no excuse, it just masks the root cause. I think as with everything else, there's a crisis of competence. Sound mastering is probably done by dangerhair quota hires - which is...

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered from Aspyr - for real this time

Decline as with every other aspect of the industry. Consumer sound hardware has taken a massive nosedive over the past 20 years. In the early 2000s, it was a common thing for enthusiast videogame players to also have a decent sound system, with a proper receiver and capable speakers. The...

Sierra Sierra SCI0-era appreciation thread – any other games like this?

Conquests of Camelot is my favourite. Amazing game full of atmosphere and good writing. I still replay it every once in awhile. Hero's Quest (later renamed Quest for Glory) is a close 2nd. I still prefer the EGA version to the VGA remake. SCI games were a significant part of my preteen...

    The Video Game Music Thread

Back when fighting game soundtracks were good and not infested with hip hop garbage.

What game are you wasting time on?

Streets of Rage 3's OST is interesting because it's sort of procedural, auto-generative. Yuzo Koshiro wrote a sort of scripting language which he termed "Automated Composing System", and he used that to lay out the songs, and fiddle with parameters here and there. The whole thing was setup like...

    Tekken 8

There's a lot of prerendered movies in the game - a lot. And it's laughable too because the in-engine graphics look much better pretty much all the time.

    Tekken 8

I played through the story (first time I've done so since Tekken 3) and it's the most ridiculous shit imaginable, I mean nuclear levels of complete retardation. However, the very final chapter is pretty cool. If you know you know.

    Dosbox setup with CRT emulation

That's right, I was using 0.80.1, how silly of me. 0.81.0-RC2 works great now. Thanks!

    Dosbox setup with CRT emulation

I made sure to delete the user folder (together with all my old configs) and generated new ones. I also unzipped the RC into a fresh folder. And I have a 4k screen. Oh well, I'll go back to using crt-fakelottes-tweaked.

    Dosbox setup with CRT emulation

Hey Rincewind, I downloaded 0.81.0-RC and generated a new config file. However, crt-auto doesn't seem to be doing anything. glshader = crt-auto in the .ini file, right?

Incline Team Ninja's Rise of the Ronin

I don't give a shit about consensus. Elden Ring is the only Souls game I haven't played multiple times after finishing it once. I haven't booted it up a single time since. Its open world elements are undeniably and by far the worst aspects of the game.

Incline Team Ninja's Rise of the Ronin

It's very simple really, open world = shit There's one exception to this rule and one exception only: Dragon's Dogma
