  1. Immersion: text or graphic ?

Out of the two, graphics, but as said they rely on good art direction. A game that uses both properly will be more immersive than one that uses either. This poll omits the use of sound design, which is also very important.
  2. Game of the year 2011: RPGCodex Top 3

Batman AC Yakuza 4 The Witcher 2 Haven't played Dark Souls yet.
  3. NSFW Best Thread Ever [No SJW-related posts allowed]

Not as bad as all the baby Sephiroths, but still... SIDS would be merciful.
  4. Every bad innovation is corrected by another bad innovation.

I don't think many of those follow sequentially in the order you presented (except regen health and instant kills, which is dead on), but all of those things are definitely lazy solutions to problems caused by laziness in the first place, and end up making worse problems of their own. e.g...
  5. The Goddamn Batman: Arkham City thread

Just about, because of bad writing in general, not bad plot. It lacks foreshadowing, characters flicker in and out of the story for no reason other than cameos or DLC hooks, and it's reliant on the player being familiar with Batman mythology despite taking place in its own alternate universe...
  6. So I'm re-playing FF Tactics again...

I found the grating ye olde englishe translation of WOTL to be just as bad if not worse than the original's broken engrish. It was a little clearer, but there's no way any line no matter how good can be anything but nauseating if passed through the retranslation filter they were using. Square...
  7. How come no one but the people of the Codex

    Food isn't video games.
  8. "Syndicate" FPS footage - Shit even for a shooter!

Every game is essentially linear, that's how causation works. There is a big difference between a labyrinthine map like classic doom where full of hidden nooks where you have to find a key, and literally a fucking corridor sprinkled with setpieces and dudes crouching behind waist high concrete...
  9. Cool jRPG party members?

He's probably the least annoying party member in FFX.
  10. The STEAM Sales and Releases Thread

I don't have any incisively damning evidence in my internet utility belt but here is some vague comment be a valve employee: I see it mentioned often enough that I'll probably be able to produce something more concrete if I remember+still care. I'm not much of a griefer nor anti-steamtard but it...
  11. The STEAM Sales and Releases Thread

They've suspended accounts for griefing on the same server as valve employees. Part of their online code of conduct.
  12. the twilight princess bit where you're in the sewers

The sound design in that game was excellent. The wolf's breathing, the cuff chain clinking, footsteps against all the different kind of floor textures, wind, water, moaning background ambience, those dissonant beeps the dark world enemies make... I found the sewer section very memorable as well...
  13. Skyrim manual scans

Alchemy would conceivably require pseudoscientific knowledge where cooking is more artistic? Ideally, alchemy would allow you to become a drug dealer, mix up bombs, poisons, join the alchemy university as a researcher, restore tarnished or encrusted artifacts, gain the respect of scientific...
  14. Do you do Navarro runs? (Fallout 2)

Since it's going to be made by Bethesda and the best faction they came up with was the Talon Company (stupid evil mercs hired by the Plot Hole Corporation to shoot innocents on sight) I don't think it would be any better than yellow super mutants and the east coast BoS. I'm more hopeful they...
  15. Game News Diablo III Muslim Controversy

That book in D3 bears no more resemblance to the Quran than some generic hardcover from my infidel atheist bookshelf. It's three diamonds and a frame, not even the same size frame, and without the ornate design. Completely generic.
