First time for everything? :) To me it's a "sci-fi" feeling. I just didn't enjoy those polished looking environments is all. Like everything, it's subjective.

Well yeah, that's true, but I guess I just prefer dark dilapidated temple ruins and dungeons :)

Have you played the second game? All those lasers and stuff in the temple, polished marble (or metal?) everywhere, etc. It just didn't feel very medieval. Btw, I did transfer my party from 1, and I even dropped the overpowered loot in the foyer of the temple. Some of the fights were...

The Eye of the Beholder Thread

I really love the first game, but with the second one I got that "more of the same" feeling and it didn't leave that much of an impression on me. Especially disliked the end-game with the silly dragon fight. I really enjoyed the multi-level exploration in 1 when things "opened up" after...

I can't parse this post, but probably I should be happy I'm oblivious of the drama. :)

Yeah, I'm not a fan of every sprite jumping up and down all the time during combat. What's wrong with static sprites like in Gold Box? Turning off the shaders would be nice, but unlikely it will happen as that might necessitate doing certain graphics elements twice. I wish they stuck with sane...

Maybe the trees could be a *little* bit less modern, yeah. The lighting seems a bit too much for a retro game, agreed. I get your point; the danger is that it will stop looking like an early 90s DOS-inspired retro game after too many "improvements", and more like an early accelerated Windows...

Referring to these videos? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5cQAo7UI-c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFMz52Y_Fvc I think the game looks fantastic, a very good balance between oldschool and pleasant-looking.

    Chants of Sennaar

Just finished, well, it's way too easy, the game starts basically solving puzzles for you around the end, and the ending is rather meh. Ultimately, there's not a whole lot substance to it. 3 out of 5 for the nice atmosphere. Ultimately, it's a casual game very much aimed at normies.

Game News SKALD: Against the Black Priory releasing on May 30th

I think he's referring to the fact that they introduced a shader-based lighting system, so effectively they have diverged from the C64 aesthetics somewhat. I was a bit annoyed by that, but to me this still looks like C64 as fuck, so it's all good. This still very much looks like the authentic...

Codex Review RPG Codex Review: King Arthur: Knight's Tale

Okay, having Morgana Le Fay as a recruit option sold it to me. Seems like it's mostly just a re-skinning of the D&D alignment system then, which I'm fine with. I guess "righteous" and "pious" are my trigger words... +M

That's my reading of it, but then I usually just skim these longwinded reviews. Pious XCOM.

How much are they pushing the Christian stuff in the game? I'm hoping not at all. I find having to play pious Christians quite offputting. Would prefer the Pagan side.

What's wrong with cover? It's completely fine.

Glorious trailer, I very much approve. They know exactly who their target audience is. There's even an Amiga reference manual next to the Commodore monitor, well done. I wasn't that fond of the shader stuff, but they seem to be using it sparingly, so who cares. It still looks glorious and...
