Random thoughts on whatever JRPG you're currently playing?

About 20 hours into FFVII Remake and I have to tap out. Worst offenders to me are the combat and the level design. I mean... the transitions between areas are just complete filler. As for combat sometimes it works really good (like the 1vs1 battle against Reno) and sometimes you have no clue...

Game News Prison-based adventure RPG Prisonscape finally releasing in March

Agreed. I think we got the budget estimate for the assets correct but we seriously underestimated the budget for our "salaries" (i.e. how long it would take to finish the game working full-time).

    Prisonscape Alpha - thread

Thanks for the excellent feedback! As you have noticed, we had to cut some of the "realistic" stuff in order to keep the gameplay fun. Player's intelligence is going to be the main factor in controlling/recruitng henchmen, we just need to balance it so that playing an INT character isn't OP as...

    Prisonscape Alpha - thread

Sent out the first alpha build yesterday! Van_Kaiji: I'll try to fix "game breaking" bugs for each alpha build, so that you don't get stuck in the story etc.

    Prisonscape - a prison RPG

Hey Lhynn, sorry for the late reply. You can hear some samples here https://soundcloud.com/kc_portman/prisonscape-soundtrack-teaser. I'll probably start implementing the grid in the beginning of next year, so we'll see how the grid falls into place. For now we've been trying to get the alpha...

    Prisonscape - a prison RPG

You pretty much nailed it. Especially Java applets were problematic (and still are, security wise) back in the day. These days Java is a mature platform and it's up to the programmer to make sure the game is optimized properly. That being said, Java will be bundled with Prisonscape so the end...

    Prisonscape - a prison RPG

Pekka has posted Prisonscape on 4chan several times for gathering feedback, so we're kind of used to the off-the-wall comments already. We're making Prisonscape on our free time, so the scope of the game needs to be limited if we're ever going to release it. Anyways, keep the ideas and...

    Prisonscape - a prison RPG

Programmer for Prisonscape here. The reasons why I chose to wrote a custom engine: - Get to learn engine stuff on a deep level - I can implement everything Pekka (the designer) wants to have in the game without having to fight or work around code I can't control - If bugs or other issues arise...
