Snooping around the PC Gamer forums, I unearthed this gem of a thread:
http://www.pcgamer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1262&highlight=vampire+bloodlines
Some quotes to get started:
o me they just don't require much skill. Click and oppenent and attack. Really, there's very little change to the formula. Click attack, collect reward, buy upgrades repeat.
do the words HACK AND SLASH mean anything to you there is no tactics
involved in any RPG
To me the main problem is that they are so cheesy and lame. The NPCs are too lazy to solve their own problems and stand around the whole day like statues. All women in RPGs run around in bikinis or other form hugging clothes (a reflection of the people who made the game, sex starved game designers). I still play RPGs since I find them hilarious, but a good number people think RPGs are a geek thing to do (with no mainstream appeal).
Alright, that's enough for now. I don't want to give away the whole thing!

would it too big a stretch to guess that that last quote was by a female?

maybe its because im a guy and dont have to be the subject of all this perceived "sexual exploitation of women", but my god some women can be such femi-nazis over every little thing.

"omg teh women run around in bikinis! but a bare chested male character is perfectly okay for me to dedicate a fangirl site over! lolerz tee hee"

Someone should suggest some decent RPGs to them, consider it your public duty.

Behind you.
The ironic part is that these are the average llama mainstreamers that publishers are trying to appeal to when they pick what CRPGs they want to publish, and these guys are the ones saying HACK & SLASH is boring and they don't like to follow the advancement formula. The end result is that you lose the existing consumers who like CRPGs while trying to appeal those who will never like it.

Everyone knows that you need to dumb everything down and appeal to the lowest common denominator to get the money. It's the main lesson in publishing handbooks.

Actually there are a few smart posters in that thread. It’s funny how many times fallout came up in this thread. It’s kinda cool to see other forums talking about Fallout. You think the only people who know about Fallout are posters on nma, d&c, here or obsidian, but as we see that’s not the case.

But I did find this one funny:

“i'm not sure how anyone could play Morrowind and not enjoy it.”

LOL!

Well, I enjoyed urinating all over the game disc. Does that count?
Sure, with bonus points for creativity.
You don't want to know what I did to the soul bringer discs
