Is it possible to play a warrior mage in Gothic 2?

I'm thinking about playing a warrior mage armed with a greatsword. Is this possible?

Sure.

SPOILER TIPS:

Collect and eat lots of dark mushrooms: a huge mana boost (permanent), at least in NotR. Brew mana and strength potions (for a permanent increase). Pray at altars of Innos for permanent stats increases. Find the two rings and amulet that together give a +50 boost to mana, iirc. You can find them in Jharkendar about as early in the game as you care to go there.

This way it becomes a matter of momentary preference which way you divert your learning points.

It's possible but requires farming all boni and being very careful about spending points. I do remember that someone even wrote a guide for it, but it's in german. Here's a link if you care, perhaps you can get someone to translate it.

Personally, my favorite mage variant is one with high Dex and all the free Str boni using the Master Sword. Still capable of some hand to hand combat and can also master all the thieving skills. Pickpocket is good for money, XP and even some extra permanent stat boni. This BTW refers mainly to NOTR, with Gothic 2 vanilla it is much easier.

there was another thread on the game already you shit fucker why not just ask in there.

anyway, are you talking about a FIRE MAGE using two-handed weapons? Cuz the paladin is basically a gish type of class that is a mix of magic and melee.

anyway, the special mage-intended melee weapons are all two handed weapons so yes you can, just save up some extra points for raising your STR and 2-handed skills (so avoid lame spell runes, basically).

You can get your first paladin spell in the third chapter, when you actually become a paladin, if you take the militia path. You'll have to play the fire mage if you want a genuine spell-caster, and a variety of spells to choose from. Paladin spells aren't low level, and there are exactly as many offensive as defensive ones (the "defensive" ones being healing spells), which is to say there are two offensive spells (the most powerful is available only as scrolls in NotR; real magic users use runes).

P.S. You should probably focus on increasing your strength by brewing potions and finding the rings and amulet that increase strength, since increasing strength by using learning points is more costly as a fire mage.

Nah, paladins have simple, but highly effective offensive spells, capable of one-hitting an elite orc.
