Can't run it on Ubuntu 9.10 32bit i386. "./eschalon_book_2: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by ./eschalon_book_2)". I'm not upgrading to 10.04 because I already did it on one PC and it was a disaster. On the other hand, I see no similar lib in Synaptic. Anyone has any pointers?

You may need to get that particular library yourself. Works fine on Lucid though, even with the Gallium drivers (haven't tried the classic mesa drivers yet, but I presume it will be slow as fuck like the first game).

search on google for GLIBC_2.11 and ubuntu and you may have some luck

Yeah, "get it yourself", fine. I found what's responsible: "libc6":

The 2.11 Lucid package "Breaks existing package 'libc6-dev' dependency libc6 (= 2.10.1-0ubuntu17)". I'm not sure I should install this, meaning, won't it fuck up other programs?

Try getting a hold of the devel package then and install both. Or just upgrade your Ubuntu; you're using the old shit.

Compiling and installing newer glibc usually does end up in disaster unless you know exactly what you are doing and are sure that all the packages from distro will work. Usually, they don't.
Also, fsarchiver is awesome.

Exactly, I use all three (+ multiple other OS's old and new on multiple boxes with swappable system drives). Same as I either own or emulate every gamming platform under the sun.

I'm using Windows since, well, always, and no matter how long I think about it, I only see a single reason to have another system, too (Mac): To test developed software on that machine.
Seriously, since most useful office software (Indesign, etc.) is available for windows, too, why should I change?

I'm not saying that anything is bad, I just wonder about the trend that some people seem to have to move to Mac or Linux or whatever.

Lol, they added a 22% tax to my purchase (of course I could refuse, but they should've said something about it earlier on) and I've been waiting for a few hours for my registration code. All my recent downloadable game purchases ended with an immediate email with the code, but it seems some companies still believe not letting people play the game they paid for on Sunday is the sure way to success.
