I can't remember the civ traits so this'll have to be from units. Legionaries rape into renaissance times. All of the late-game unique unit civs are a bit shit really. India was also p. good with it's fast workers.

I also like Carthage because Hannibal's my favorite leader (due to real life accomplishments, not stats).

But anyways I agree with exommunicator: the game is boring. The Civ series as a whole seems rather bland, even the leaders and civs all function pretty much the same except with a a flavour unit and building. It's like a super-abstract historical game that doesn't reflect history at all and has no redeeming gameplay features either.

Anyone industrial as i'm a sucker for wonders. Rome with it's legionaries makes it too easy so i really don't play them anymore. Then again, i only ever play on Prince as i just couldn't be bothered to think of cheesy ways of overcoming cheating as fuck AI on greater levels.

It's better on multiplayer where you're on an equal footing to your opponents. BTW, why is this thread in general discussion? Does CF spend so much time in GD that he can't even recognise when a thread should be GG?

That French king. Louis XIV? Fast culture spread, fast wonders.

I don't like the game either, the AI is either much too easy or a cheap cheatfag. Don't actually like the whole system as such, now why can't I build a fucking Granary at the same time as training armies? So you have to choose between dealing with the barbarian spam, AI army spam or advancing your civilization. Actually better just to bum rush your neighbors, better to do first yourself rather than have to start building those armies when they rush you while you were building something else. And sometimes your armies just vanish from the game because of terrible luck, and then it's game over. How nice of a slow strategy game to end in a coin toss. And just why does everything take so long to build? Fuck!

I like the Illians, can be a difficult start but I love turning the world into a frigid wasteland. Not to mention that ice mana provides some of the best spells in the game.

It's a mark of a bad turn-based game when you just click on turn, turn, turn, turn... just waiting for something to happen. A turn should be significant, a time where a lot of things happen, not something you have to use 120 in order to build a mud shack.

They changed the civ traits around with beyond the sword so I switched with that. I can't play without the creative trait as I hate having to build things like theaters or monuments to increase my cities' borders. Otherwise it is either financial (if going town-economy) or philosophical (if going specialist-economy).

Interestingly, the Cre/Fin nation now is the Dutch. The Cre/Phil nation is the Greek with Pericles, and they have a decent unit. Before BtS Catherine of Russia had Cre/Fin and those had a unit which wiped the floor with anything for years in the Cossack. Only the English could resist with their overpowered Redcoats back then. The Cre/Phil nation was Germany with Frederick with a late game but potent panzer.

Good thing that never happens in Civ4 then. Except if you go for a boring cultural victory.

I like playing Egypt, this because I usually play on Earch map with "real" starting positions and I find it a good place to start out, at the choke point between europe/asia/middle east.

Is there a consoletard infestation on the codex?

Too much turn based in a turn based game? Not enough instant gratification? Really?

Anyways, I hear the really pro players says the byzantine UU is the best unit, and the ottoman UB is the best building (the carthaginian UU is among the worst).

Maybe to hardcore TB-fans, but to me the building still seems like ages...

It seems you have misunderstood me. What I meant was:

I hear they've really fixed this is Civ V :smug:

Seriously though a courthouse in V is like 150 turns WTF

You guys ought to play RoM - even if you play with 3500 turns, there's always something to do/build because of the early buildings and techs.

Calabim for immortal vampire units that I continuously promote to become nigh-unstoppable. Oh, and yeah, I usually go Pericles for specialist economy, and Ragnar for cottage.

Mehmed. Everything about him is a cut above the average. Unique building, unique unit, starting techs, and traits. He's the most balanced leader, by far.

Kublai Khan gets an honorable second place. Aggressive/Creative lets you rush someone in the ancient era, and the Keshik finishes him off in the classical era. You'll have 10+ cities by the medieval era, with plenty of time to win.

Romans FTW.

Other than that I play the Babylonians a lot - like the city names. Went through a Mongol phase a few years ago but I'm mostly over that now.
