This is what's happening to RPGdot. Its the pervasive influence of commerce, of money. The stink of money. It's everywhere.

It's the 'creeping death'.

Now. There's a great villain for an RPG. Actually, it reminds me of the 'Neverinding Story' What a great villain. They already had it worked out.

"The Nothing"

Best metaphor ever for what's become of us. Western capitalism. Just look at the pop music top-40 charts. And compare it with the same from 20 years ago. Dear god, what has happened? The nothing. Music, clothes, everything. Gray, conformist. The Nothing. Forever seek to try to impress that you have money. Gee, great.

Mindless, shoot 'em up. Shitty, bland pop. Predictable, dull, by-the-numbers-hollywood dullness.

And the UGLINESS. The sheer ugliness of what we see on TV or at the pictures, (what's being sold in game shops) nowadays. The violence.

The UNDERVALUING of FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS.

So.

WE ARE UNDERUSED.

Developers think cross-platform now. PC games (automatically) are and will be ports, so they need to be dumbed down for console kids.

Buy a history book and actually read it if you really think the world "suddenly" went bad. Greed and ignorance were their since the dawn of man, nothing ever changed. The past is at least as ugly as the present. You know I could be gassing jews right know or bleeding to death on some godless battlefield (I'm German) - like the people in the "good old times". They certainly didn't "undervalue their fellow human beings" back then.

And you're also wrong if you think that RPGCodex is a big, happy collective of like-minded people. I think Blizzard (Diablo) and Bioware (Baldur's Gate) destoryed CRPG-gaming once and forever (the two mentioned games mark the beginning of the "new school" of CRPG design for me - i.e. dumbed-down, real-time crap for the unwashed masses). However there are a lot of Blizzard and Bioware fans around here IIRC.

As far as "UGLINESS" is concerned: Personally, I don't find all the "I fucked your daddy in the ass with a night-stick while jerking off to underage midget porn"-posts of Codex regulars very pleasing...

Actually, that's kind of shitty advice. Why? Well, if anyone smart enough to realize breeding puts a strain on the environment decides not to breed, only stupid people will breed and the world ends up filled with them. The trick is to have the smart people breed , but prevent the stupid people from breeding somehow.
