Back at the Jorvasskr, Shepard collects his payment, a pitiful 100 gold for beating up a woman.
01.jpg

shep.jpg
You tell'em I could beat up more than a woman, Farkas. I killed around six men today while I was walking over to her farm. Now, do you have anything else for me?
farkas.jpg
You should see Skjor, he might have something.
shep.jpg
Fine.
02.jpg

shep.jpg
What is it this time? Do I have to beat up men?
skjor.jpg
Nothing of the sort, Shepard. Last week a scholar came to us. He said he knew where we could find another fragment of Wuuthrad.
shep.jpg
A fragment of what?
skjor.jpg
Wuuthrad.
shep.jpg
What does this shit have to do with me?
skjor.jpg
It's your trial, Redguard. It might sound like a simple errand, but carry yourself with honor and you'll become a true Companion.
shep.jpg
Anything to avoid beating up women ever again.
skjor.jpg
Farkas has the details. He'll be your Shield-Sibling on this venture, whelp.
shep.jpg
I need to ask some-
skjor.jpg
He'll answer any questions you have. Try not to disappoint. Or to get him killed.

And so the stage is set.
Music: Contra Theme
00.jpg

shep.jpg
So where are we headed?
farkas.jpg
Dustman's Cairn. An old ancient ruin.
shep.jpg
I know we're looking for Wuuthrad, but what the hell is it?
farkas.jpg
Ysgramor was the hero who started the Companions. Wuuthrad was his weapon.
shep.jpg
What's so special about him?
farkas.jpg
He came from the ancient homeland and killed all the elves.
shep.jpg
Hmm. I like him already.
farkas.jpg
But not all of them, because some of them are still alive.
shep.jpg
Heheh. We'll finish his job.
farkas.jpg
Right, do you wish to travel together or do I meet you there?
shep.jpg
We'll travel together. Safer that way.

Shepard and his Shield-Sibling sets forth immediately.
03.jpg

Along the way, Shepard partakes in hunts to restock his rations.
04.jpg

05.jpg

For once, he is not alone in his journey.
06.jpg

farkas.jpg
You seem fond of hunting games. Are you an archer?
shep.jpg
Only when I need to. A warrior does not limit his arsenal.

Shepard lets loose another arrow, striking another deer dead.
07.jpg

shep.jpg
Keeps my senses sharp.
08.jpg

shep.jpg
But my preferred weapon is still the two handers.
farkas.jpg
Indeed, brother. Nothing says power like the thundering clash from a greatsword!

Advancing ahead, they meet all manner of nuisance from mudcrabs to savage wolves.
09.jpg

farkas.jpg
What brings you to Skyrim, brother? Hammerfell is a long way from here..
shep.jpg
I am here to aid the Empire.
farkas.jpg
Truly? I do not think most Redguards share that sentiment, are you in the Legion?
shep.jpg
Not yet...my brothers in Hammerfell may not understand it, but my leader, Warchief U'bama is a wise man...he knows our true enemy isn't the Empire..it is...halt.

Shepard suddenly ducks and notches an arrow at a distant group.
10.jpg

shep.jpg
Bandits?
farkas.jpg
Bandits don't travel on roads so openly. I say we approach to make sure.
shep.jpg
Blades at the ready, follow my lead.

Farkas nods. As Shepard approach, blood rushes to his head as he recognized the figures.

shep.jpg
YOU.
11.jpg

shep.jpg
You..will pay for what you've done...

Shepard draws his bow, readying an arrow. Poisoned at the tip.

12.jpg

farkas.jpg
Brother, what is wrong?

Farkas puts an arm on his Shield-Sibling's right shoulder, but was brushed aside as Shepard drew the arrow back.

Music: Baldur's Gate - Final Battle

farkas.jpg
Shepard, NO!
shep.jpg
DIE, ALDMERI SCUM!

He let fly, catching one of the Thalmor Justicar on the back.
13.jpg

Farkas had no choice but to join the fight. Shepard draws his Chilling Greatsword and ravages the wounded Thalmor, finishing him off in two blows.
14.jpg

shep.jpg
YOUR ARROGANCE ENDS HERE!
farkas.jpg
Brother, help me!

Farkas bear the brunt of the flames and lightning - the Thalmor wizard set him ablaze with a wicked grin on his face. The grin lasted for all three seconds as Shepard charged in with a mighty roar.
shep.jpg
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU--
15.jpg

16.jpg

shep.jpg
CK!----YOU!

The Thalmor wizard shield spell absorbed the first hit, but he stumbles from the great impact.
17.jpg

shep.jpg
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE BEATEN?!

Another violent hack comes down on his shoulder, ending his life in a shower of crimson blood.
18.jpg

Shepard turns around and spotted Farkas, kneeling on the ground. He acted quickly. The last Thalmor was unprepared for the sudden spinning blade from the Redguard's furious offense and suffered a heavy gash on his left shoulder.
19.jpg

shep.jpg
THE BLACK EAGLES SOAR AGAIN!
20.jpg

The Thalmor can only gasp for breath as he watches the bloodied greatsword descend upon his defenseless torso.
21.jpg

A loud impact, his Elven armor failed to absorb most of it - he landed with a thud, unmoving.
22.jpg

shep.jpg
Die without honor. *Spits*
23.jpg

shep.jpg
Farkas, are you alright?
farkas.jpg
I...I'm fine. Ysgramor's beard, what the hell, Shepard?

Shepard didn't answer and stripped the corpses one by one.
24.jpg

shep.jpg
NO. HONOR.

He drew his greatsword and struck at the corpse once more, drawing more blood.
25.jpg

shep.jpg
ALL. YOUR. FAULT.

Finally, he sheathed his greatsword and drove his right fist at the dead Thalmor's face, bruising the dead elf's fine, clean feature, dirtying it with blood and mud.
26.jpg

shep.jpg
SUPERIOR RACE? I'LL SHOW YOU!
farkas.jpg
Brother! ENOUGH! He is no more! This is not the warrior's way!
shep.jpg
Huhh---hufff....I'm finished.
27.jpg

farkas.jpg
What did they ever do to you?
shep.jpg
Aside from ripping my homeland and yours into two?

Farkas nodded. He knew nothing that could drive a man to such extremities.

shep.jpg
They killed my betrothed.

Shepard spat at the corpse and moved on, leaving Farkas speechless for a few moments before attempting to catch up with the furious warrior.

Punching the woman in the face is the interesting turn? Or have you confused the LARPing as quest-related?

RK47, you lucky bastard. You found Elven Justiciars at the beginning of the game?! I had to wait until I went to the second big city, and I killed all of them with impunity.

Killing elves is the second most thrilling part of Skyrim after killing liches/"dragon priests". Elves always shout in their loud pompous voice:

AHAAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAHA YOU THINK YOU CAN DEFEAT MEEEE?!

And then you behead them and steal their expensive armour. Damn, that feels good. What I love in this game is that you can kill any elf you want, and even pro-Imperial Jarls will not bat an eyelash. I love it.

Just for LARPing sake, it's probably worth killing every elf in this game as a racist anti-elf.

Actually if you look at the top left corner on some screens - I actually accumulate bounty - I was lucky that no one happened to pass by when we slaughtered the three, hence the bounty was neutralized upon the last elf's death.

Good game.

I spoke to the Thalmor and was illusive about whether I worshiped Talos or not. They got suspicious and attacked me. This was taking place in a small village (Rorikstead ?) with a few guards. Since they were the ones who attacked me, the guards slaughtered them.

At this level the basic Fury spell without perks would probably still work on the Thalmor.

01.jpg

shep.jpg
Is this it?
farkas.jpg
Yes.

The warriors enter the crypt. Moments after entering, Farkas stopped to comment on the surrounding.

02.jpg

shep.jpg
Did the scholar told someone else?
farkas.jpg
Doesn't matter, we're here for the shards.
03.jpg

shep.jpg
Hey, is that-
farkas.jpg
Draugrs! Fight back, Shepard!

The corpses rose from their graves and attacked the pair.
04.jpg

Fortunately, their slow, ungainly movements cannot match the prowess of the two. They cleared the passage until they stumbled an obstacle their swords cannot clear: A metal gate.

05.jpg

farkas.jpg
Look for a lever, has to be one nearby.
06.jpg

shep.jpg
Found it.

Shepard gave it a push, only to hear a grinding sound as the gate behind him lowers shut.
07.jpg

shep.jpg
Shit.
08.jpg

shep.jpg
Farkas, behind you!

Two figures emerged from the raised gate, and more to follow. Together they make up at least six. They regard Farkas with hostile eyes.
09.jpg

shep.jpg
Farkas, let me out, I can help you!

Behind the bars, Shepard can see the unknown individuals surrounding Farkas, each eager for the kill. They traded insults and barbs.

"We knew you'd be coming here."
"Your mistake, Companion."
"Which one is that?"
"It doesn't matter. He wears that armor, he dies."

A fierce looking orc stands in front of Farkas, ready to strike.
10.jpg

farkas.jpg
None of you will be alive to tell it.

Suddenly, a ripping sound was heard, Farkas' form began to convulse violently. At first, his steel armor came off, followed by his clothings underneath. Shepard could see patches of ....black fur?
11.jpg

shep.jpg
What the fu-

The attackers could wait no longer and lunged at Farkas' beastial form.
12.jpg

Flashes of black fur and blood flew. From behind the bars, Shepard could see the giant wolf is winning, each of its claws tearing apart its attackers one by one.
13.jpg

The wolf disappeared from view, and the bars imprisoning Shepard were finally raised, Shepard stepped out to admire the aftermath.
14.jpg

shep.jpg
Silver swords...who are these?

Shepard turned around as he noticed a form to his left, it's Farkas. And he's back in human form as if nothing had happened.
15.jpg

shep.jpg
What was that?
farkas.jpg
It's a blessing given to some of us. We can be like wild beasts. Fearsome.
shep.jpg
Am I..
farkas.jpg
Oh, no. Only the Circle have the beastblood. Prove your honor to be a Companion.
shep.jpg
Hmmm. I shall.
farkas.jpg
Eyes on the prey. Not the horizon. We should keep moving. Still the draugr to worry about.
shep.jpg
I doubt that's the last we see of these....
farkas.jpg
The Silver Hand?
shep.jpg
Who are they?
farkas.jpg
Bad people who don't like werewolves. So they don't like us either.
shep.jpg
I see. So does everyone know you're all werewolves?
farkas.jpg
Only the Circle, it's secret to everybody.
shep.jpg
Okay. Let's move, I think I see more of them ahead.

True enough, more Silver Hand fighters block their path. But Shepard is ready for them.
16.jpg

18.jpg

The two warriors carved a path, and Shepard can feel his strength growing.
17.jpg

He employs brute strength, as well as guile to overcome the enemy's numerical advantage.
19.jpg

They stood no chance against Redguard's finest.
20.jpg

Along the way they encountered giant spiders as well. Farkas showed a trace of fear when encountering the eight legged freaks, but Shepard stayed strong.
21.jpg

He even gained further experience.
22.jpg

Finally, they arrive at a huge chamber.
23.jpg

shep.jpg
Looks like end of the road.
farkas.jpg
Seems like it. I hope the shards are here...
shep.jpg
Wait did you hear that?

Music: Dragonborn

farkas.jpg
No...what is it, Shepard?

24.jpg

shep.jpg
It's a chant...it's getting ..louder?

Shepard approaches the altar.
25.jpg

shep.jpg
It's..glowing?
farkas.jpg
I'm not seeing anything!
shep.jpg
There, on the wall...
26.jpg

farkas.jpg
I see the carving but it's not-
27.jpg

shep.jpg
Flame...breath?
farkas.jpg
Shepard, I don't see anything. It's just scratches.
shep.jpg
Never mind. I don't quite understand it either.
farkas.jpg
Well, at least we found the fragment.

Farkas points towards the piece of the altar and gently places it into his pack.
28.jpg

shep.jpg
Alright. We're done here...I wonder...what is this wall?
29.jpg

farkas.jpg
I don't really know. Let's go, we're done here.

Suddenly the sound of stone crumbling drew their attention. Shepard turned and saw the stone sarcophagus lids crumbling one by one.
30.jpg

shep.jpg
Looks like they don't want us to have the fragment.
farkas.jpg
Bah, they're target practice.
shep.jpg
Bonus round. Let's go.
31.jpg

The draugrs may have numerical advantage, but Shepard and Farkas' swordsmanship proved too powerful to overcome.
32.jpg

Scores of draugrs fell, even though wave and wave of them rose from their stony confines.
33.jpg

34.jpg

The pair felled them all.
35.jpg

shep.jpg
That's it.
farkas.jpg
There's passage here, I think it leads to the exit...

The pair followed the passage behind sarcophagus.
36.jpg

And sure enough, it leads outside.
37.jpg

farkas.jpg
You've done well, Shepard. Let us return.
shep.jpg
Should I tell them about the elves?
farkas.jpg
I don't remember any elves, perhaps you are referring to the bandits at the bridge?
shep.jpg
Heh. Thank you, brother.

The return was uneventful.
38.jpg

kodlak.jpg
This man has endured, has challenged, and has shown his valor. Who will speak for him?
farkas.jpg
I stand witness to the courage of the soul before us.
kodlak.jpg
Would you raise your shield in his defense?
farkas.jpg
I would stand at his back, that the world might never overtake us.
kodlak.jpg
And would you raise your sword in his honor?
farkas.jpg
It stands ready to meet the blood of his foes.
kodlak.jpg
And would your raise a mug in his name?
farkas.jpg
I would lead the song of triumph as our mead hall reveled in his stories.
kodlak.jpg
Then the judgement of this Circle is complete.
kodlak.jpg
His heart beats with fury and courage that have united the Companions since the days of the distant green summers.
kodlak.jpg
Let it beat with ours, that the mountains may echo and our enemies may tremble at the call.

With a loud chorus, the rest of the Companions shouts, "It shall be so!"
kodlak.jpg
Well, boy, you're one of us now. I trust you won't disappoint.
shep.jpg
Thank you, Elder. Tell me, what does it mean to be Companion?
kodlak.jpg
It means living such that your Shield-Siblings would proudly say they fought at your side.
kodlak.jpg
Glory in battle, honor in life.
kodlak.jpg
Deal with problems head on. Leave whispers and sneaking to the gutter rats who can't fight for themselves.
shep.jpg
I understand. But is it true that the Companions are...werewolves?
kodlak.jpg
I see you've been allowed to know some secrets before your appointed time.

The elder casts Shepard with a worried look, he appears deep in thought.
kodlak.jpg
No matter. Yes, it's true. Not every Companion, though.
kodlak.jpg
Only members of the Circle all share the blood of the beast. Some take to it more than others.
shep.jpg
What about you?

The elderly Nord gaze looks distant. He appears to put much thought before answering.

kodlak.jpg
Well, I grow old. My mind turns towards the horizon. To Sovngarde.
kodlak.jpg
I worry that Shor won't call an animal to glory as he would a true Nord warrior.
kodlak.jpg
Living as beasts draw our souls closer to the Daedric Lord Hircine.
shep.jpg
The Daedric Lord of the Hunt?
kodlak.jpg
Yes, some may prefer an eternity in his Hunting Grounds, but I crave the Fellowship of Sovngarde.
shep.jpg
Wait a minute, are you saying that you're looking to cure yourself?

For a moment, Shepard detected a spark of hope in the old man's eyes.

kodlak.jpg
Yes, but it's no easy matter.
shep.jpg
Is there anything I can-
kodlak.jpg
But you don't need to share the worries of an old warrior. This day is to rejoice in your bravery!

Before Shepard could interrupt, Kodlak walks away as the sun begins to rise.

42.jpg

shep.jpg
I will, Elder.

Shepard drew a deep breath. He finally found a place where he belongs. Honor and Glory.
43.jpg

His gaze turns towards the rising sun, signalling a new day. He'll need a short rest before resuming his adventures, which is just the beginning.

Morning comes...
01.jpg

02.jpg

shep.jpg
I was told you would have a weapon for me.
eorlund.jpg
Yes, lad, you've been raised into the Companions, I hear.
eorlund.jpg
I can fashion whatever kind of weapon you want. Finest forge in Skyrim, right here before you.
shep.jpg
Give me the battle axe.
eorlund.jpg
Just like Ysgramor himself.

Eorlund takes a few moments to smith the blade and presents it to Shepard.
03.jpg

shep.jpg
Impressive. Thank you, master smith.

Shepard decides that it's time to spend some coin he earned and proceed to the marketplace.
There, he purchased more supplies for his travels.
04.jpg

05.jpg

shep.jpg
Someone giving you trouble?
carlotta.jpg
That bard Mikael is begging for a dagger up against his throat, the way he goes on about me.
shep.jpg
What did he do?
carlotta.jpg
I've heard him boasting at the Bannered Mare, saying he'll conquer me as a true Nord conquers any harsh beast. Hmph.
shep.jpg
Perhaps if I talk to Mikael..
carlotta.jpg
If you want to try, go right ahead. I don't think anything will get through that thick skull of his, though.
shep.jpg
The Bannered Mare, eh? I recall I have a woman I gotta brawl inside...Perfect time, I have the gold now.
06.jpg

shep.jpg
Hey, woman! It's me! I'm ready for your challenge!

Shepard turns towards the woman's usual table, only to spot her brandishing her greatsword, rushing towards him!
07.jpg

shep.jpg
Hey, hey, hey! We're supposed to-
08.jpg

shep.jpg
-brawl?
09.jpg

shep.jpg
Fuck.

The mad woman got a good hit in, catching Shepard off guard. He quickly drew his battle axe and parried the oncoming blows. Eventually returning a few blows of his own.
10.jpg

shep.jpg
What's gotten into you?!
11.jpg

shep.jpg
Is this to the death?

The patrons did nothing to stop the two, some even cheered them on. After trading several blows, Shepard gains the upper hand.
12.jpg

shep.jpg
I can see you struggling, look, I'll forget this ever happened if you-
13.jpg

Suddenly the female warrior lowers her guard and charges at Shepard. It's now or never.

14.jpg

shep.jpg
You dumb-
15.jpg

shep.jpg
-bitch!
16.jpg

With a mighty overhead swing, the blow caught her square on her head, crashing her onto the floor. She stayed down, not moving.
17.jpg

shep.jpg
Fuck. I killed her.

Strangely, no one gave a shit. Shepard decides to capitalize on her full steel plate armor.
18.jpg

shep.jpg
It's better than mine. You fought well, but it was a pointless death.
19.jpg

shep.jpg
You could've stopped her, retard. Someone should clean up this mess.

Shepard straps on the steel plate armor and makes his move on the bard who stopped singing ever since the deadly duel started.
20.jpg

shep.jpg
You! You need to leave Carlotta alone!
bard.jpg
Carlotta put you up to this, didn't she? I'm sorry, but that fiery widow is mine.
bard.jpg
She just doesn't know it yet.
shep.jpg
Leave Carlotta alone, or else.
bard.jpg
I..I don't have to take that from you!
21.jpg

shep.jpg
Oof! Bad move, Mikey. Now I'm going to whoop your ass!

It was a one sided fight, Mikael's blows are just not good enough to blow past Shepard's plate armor.
22.jpg

23.jpg

shep.jpg
What's the matter? Come on, get some!
24.jpg

shep.jpg
C'mon, boy. You leave Carlotta alone, or the axe comes out.
25.jpg

Satisfied, Shepard wipes the blood off his gauntlets and tipped the innkeeper on his way out.
shep.jpg
Sorry for the mess, but tell the guards she started it. Okay?

The innkeeper quietly nodded and sighed at the naked corpse. Some drunkard had started to poke on it.

shep.jpg
Carlotta, problem solved. Mikey won't be bothering you again.
26.jpg

Shepard pockets some change, it was quite an amount, around 600 gold. He was about to ask if she's sure, but decided otherwise. That near death encounter in the inn was worth that much.
27.jpg

shep.jpg
Time to spend some gold.

Shepard purchased a magical ring from the general store.
28.jpg

And his near death encounter was sufficient for him to specialize in battle axes.
29.jpg

He also purchased several ingots and spent some time at the local smith refining his arms.
30.jpg

31.jpg

shep.jpg
Now with these done, it's time to give this axe an extra oomph.

He returns to Farengar's laboratory and borrowed his enchanting tools.
32.jpg

shep.jpg
This sword's obsolete, but I can still break it down and use its frost magic.
34.jpg

shep.jpg
There, Cold Steel is ready to claim some heads.

Before leaving, he purchased a soul trapping spell to recharge Cold Steel.
33.jpg

shep.jpg
Hmm. What next? Oh, I've a promise to keep.
35.jpg

39.jpg

shep.jpg
It's quite a distance from here. Guess it's a good time to buy a steed.

A thousand gold secured a horse for him.
36.jpg

Man this game is sweet. Huge dungeons, great difficulty on Master setting (the only worthy choice), pretty good character system (no way you can master all skills in this compared to all other ES games), good art direction, huge world, pretty decent writing and setting. This might top New Vegas as my favorite open-world game, although I'd admit that Gothic 2 NoTR is the superior game of this kind. Don't give a shit tho, Skyrim is way more majestic

According to my map, Valtheim Towers is alongside a river. So if I just follow this..
03.jpg

shep.jpg
I should be getting close. Hit it, Normandy!

The mighty black steed obeyed its master's command and effortlessly scaled steep inclines!
04.jpg

shep.jpg
Whoa!
05.jpg

shep.jpg
Impressive. Alright, I can see the tower from here. You stay here.
06.jpg

It's harder to sneak in broad daylight, but it doesn't mean Shepard should charge in mindlessly. He kept his profile low and crept closer.
07.jpg

shep.jpg
Alright, close enough. Looks like they spotted me as well. Let's dance.
08.jpg

The arrow caught the bandit on the chest, but she survived the impact. Shepard draws Cold Steel.
09.jpg

One overhead swing later, the bandit's body lies on a bed of lowers.
10.jpg

Arrows flew overhead, the rest of the bandits have spotted him.
11.jpg

shep.jpg
Better get into the towers!

Shepard's stamina is depleted, he quickly emptied the bowl of beef stew on the way in for an extra kick of stamina.
12.jpg

Once inside, he can afford to slow down.
13.jpg

That's right, keep taunting me...it'll let me know how close you are.

Shepard decides to mount an ambush by the doorway. No arrows can reach him. And if he limits the enemy to one at a time, their numbers are meaningless.

Soon enough, a Khajitt appears. His first customer.

Two pop-a-moled. The next proved quite hardy and survived the initial hit.

The bandit lands a good hit with his greatsword, setting Shepard ablaze.

Guh!

Both Shepard and the Bandit Chief breaks off the attack - choosing to recover their stamina. Shepard pops a skooma, ready for the finishing blow.

Time to finish this!

Time to head back to Whiterun.

The return trip was hampered by wolves

Of course, Shepard takes advantage of the constant combat to further improve his battle prowess.

Wait, that ring of stones up top. It looks just like the ones near Riverwood.

Shepard climb up the steps only to be met with a magical blast on the way up.

Hate magic.

The necromancer raises two skeletons at once, Shepard acts quickly.

Raise yourself from this!

The batle was over as quickly as it started. Shepard gave the stone up top a touch, not knowing the significance.
41.jpg

shep.jpg
Well, I don't feel all that different.

The battle over, Shepard resume the trip back to Whiterun.

Amren spent some time teaching both single handed weapons and shield techniques, it's not what Shepard normally uses, but every knowledge is useful. Once done, Shepard decides to return to the Jorrvaskr for a well-deserved rest.

Hmmm...this looks tasty.

Turning to his left, Shepard notices Aela seated next to him. Shepard decides to ask for an assignment.

Hey, RK47.

Are you going to persist in these radiant Companion missions, or will you go straight for the main Companion missions?

I believe you remember that the radiant missions can keep going on forever, while the main mission with the big rewards is still outstanding. ;)
