Are you going to make a 2006 release?

Thats what you hinted at earlier during development, but it seems like you still experimenting when your previous estimates said you'd be done with the game and just need to tweak and polish. If not, fine, its your game do what you feel is necessary. I just have to ask this much at least.

No.

Two major complaints (writing and lighting) had to be addressed. I didn't make those up, did I?

Anyway, like I said in another thread, I've got a good editor and his work will be presented shortly. These things take time, which is what I stated during the writing discussion. So far, we did 3 quests in a week. As for the lighting, you saw the last screen. It looks much better, but now this solution should be applied to every building, which will also take some time.

I'm sorry to hear there will be a delay but I think every extra minute you invest in the game now will pay dividends and will be one less bitch you'll hear afteri its released.

The earlier I play it, the earlier I can go spruiking it.

Almost forgot - Gothic 3 is another reason. Blame it on Piranha Bytes.

And all that damn arguing with those morons Kharn and Sander. Priorities, priorities! Let us with no games to develop handle the barbarians at the gates.

I don't see any reason to hurry up. The technology won't get much more outdated than it already is, and you don't have any wages to pay either. The more you work on it, the better.

You didn't make them up ( a bunch of graphic and word dialgue whores did), but there could have been teired release. Release 1 without fancy words and lights for us normal folk, and release 2 for gays, child molestors, and women with the super upgrades.

Whats the new eta? Is my constant pressuring to release as soon as possible annoying? I'm sorry, but someone has to stick up for the normal folk.

The "tiered release" concept may work with action RPGs like Fate and Mount & Blade, but it will not work with proper RPGs. In fact, it would fucking kill them.

Let's say we release the game right now as is - decent, but rough & unpolished. We'll sell a few hundred copies to the most faithful ones, while everyone else will ignore the game because it fails to meet their high standards, and that would be the end of Iron Tower, just like it was the end of Sir-Tech, Zero-Sum, Troika, etc.

I will not dumb the game down to appeal to everyone, but I will do my best to release a product that has a chance to do well.

Whats the new eta?
When it's done.

Is my constant pressuring to release as soon as possible annoying?
Not really.

I don't want anyone else to have the release, just me. I'm special. My mommy told me I was. She also said I am very handsome...and a great lover. I have a much bigger penis than my dad. She says I take after her father. But thats neither here nor there. You need a QA specialist, and I need a game to play. Seems like a perfect fit. Let me fire this bitch up and I'll give you the only feedback that matters, that being gameplay. Not graphics, sentence structure, and verb usage.

My mother might consider me to be a specialist in the area of love making (which I wouldn't disagree with, since she raised me to be curtesous to my elsders), but I consider myself to be somewhat of a specialist when it comes to crpgs that are good, and which ones suck (and the other 99% of this games fanbase seem to be editing experts, which I never stated). So while Iron Tower is fancying up the graphics and grammar, I can assist with the feedback that matters (gameplay) and is just as important for the game to be succesful (if you ignore the long term trend of crap games being the best sellers and the best ones selling like crap).

What do you say, VD, old boy? The relationship decsribed above seems quite reciprical to both parties. I can't tell good graphics from gooder ones, and I can barely spell my own name, never mind form a better sentence than some other dickhead. Let me contribute feedback the only way I know how---by playing. Don't make me sit on the bench, coach.

Aren't we all?

It sounds lovely, but I'll pass. When we are ready you will be one of the first to test it.

In unrelated news, RPG Vault has expressed more interest in the game. If you look at the Coming Soon section, you'll see an upcoming AoD article, featuring new screens (dialogue, combat, interiors, shadows, rays of light, and other crap).

I hate to have my hand held, but I can't find a coming soon section. I have checked all the headers 12 billion times and even did a search

I found it. Its under news, the one place I didn't look. That is retarded. It says news, then coming soon. I figured their news section would be like everyone else's, and not be the starting point of a coming soon section.

About PR: Out of egotistical reasons - I'm sure I'll want to have an AoD2 - I've just sent a message to Greg M at Gamespot, the guy who reviewed NWN2, asking him/Gamespot to make an interview with Iron Tower Studios. I'm confident it will happen  But it can't hurt.

How are these interviews happening? Is it you who gets contacted? Or the other way around?

Another thing to consider in the future, is that some the bigger sites will probably take you more serious in the future when you prove that you're an actual indy developer and not making vaporware. So try barking up some of the same trees when if you decide to continue on with Iron Tower. Still, Gamespot seems like the least indy friendly of the bigger sites as far as coverage.

i'm perfectly happy with knowing its not gona be done in 2006 - a more specific date would of course be nice but if you can't give one fine atleast we have a general timeframe - 2007.

And I'm back!

Tried the Public Beta, comments/thoughts below, in no particular order.

1. First off, thumbs up, I liked what I played.
2. The different origins are for the most part well done. I did die as a mercenary, though, in the first combat with the assassin. I get that combat is suppose to be hard in this game and that the player has the choice to walk away. Still, I think that fight should be much more winnable.
3. After bumping the resolution up, the text was to small to easily read.
4. Took me a while to realize I needed to hold ctrl to change orientation. Also, took me a while to realize I needed to access the world map to leave the starting town.
5. Was pretty impressed with your world building efforts. I really felt like I was in a world with nothing to recommend it other than the fact the people were stuck living in it.
6. In that light, think you can afford an intro voice over? Just to help set the mood, to read that bit about the history of the gameworld.
7. I still don't have a very good handle on combat. Best I can tell, the best way to deal with combat is to avoid all together.
8. Skill points could use some references. Like, how good is 40 versus 25? I know I'll make a lot more Etiquette checks with 40, but what sort of situations does 40 suffice in? For that matter, whats the ceiling for skill points? I assume 100.
9. Is there any benefit to dual wielding? Or for that matter, if blocking and dodging are mutually exclusive skills, does that mean equiping a shield mean my character can no longer dodge?
10. The game seems more focused on whether your character has the points to pass skill checks, and not at long term consequences of making choices. Will there be cost/benefit choices to be made in the game?

If I think of anything else, I'll add it. Meanwhile, I look forward for the game to come out, preferably before the apocalypse.

Merida, again
The good thing is that in six more years we will have hardware powerful enough to run the game properly.
