Today we have some more details on The Creative Assembly's developer session at Rezzed and it's exciting news: the presentation will be a celebration of 25 years of the studio's history, and will also feature an exclusive first look at the future of Total War...
James Russell, Total War's lead designer, says: "This year, the Creative Assembly is celebrating a quarter of a century making games. I'll be at Rezzed giving a talk on the making of the Total War series, and showing a sneak peek of what we're doing next. Exciting times - see you there!"
The Creative Assembly presentation is at 1pm on Friday 6th July. More to be announced soon!

:bounce: hopefully they will expand on the impressive pre-order and tie-in DLC showcased with Shogun 2

Well, this is gonna suck.

Glass-Half Full Edition: Maybe they'll introduce a new game with a new, non-horrible engine and will allow mods! Maybe we'll once again be able to lead our men into battle with an inbred, lunatic, alcoholic general.

I'm still playing RTW and MTW2... thanks to mods and didn't even thought about ETW or S2 so they would be right to do this... from bourgeois capitalistic viewpoint.... also when they'll announce RTW2?

I'd like something set before Alexander. That might be kewl, but it will probably be Rome or maybe China?

I haven't played a TW game since Medieval 2

ASOIAF: Total War with a big focus on diplomacy. One can only dream.

And yes, I know there's a M2TW mod for that but I want the real thing dammit!

If that is true:

Both shogun 2, and fall of the samurai, was pretty incline, unlike empire. So I'm positive.

True. I think it's nice, but I would personally like to se a total war in a modern setting, maybe first world war, which would be the logical next step after fall of the samurai.

Medieval 3. :smug:

Srsly, I'd be glad if "Empire 2" was set in the 19th century.

So, dancing negro.

Have you tried Napoleon? I heard its great. I own it, but I haven't had an opportunity to play it, because if its good it will be a time sink which I am trying to avoid right now.
It's decent, better than empire, but I'd still say that shogun 2 as well as fall of the samurai is superior

I know it will be Rome 2 but what I really want is some kind of fantasy setting. Is it too much to ask for something original and not rehashing same old games in new engine.

As much as I would LOVE a Rome 2, CA can't make a good strategy game anymore and they'll probably use the same Empire engine.
Kind of bullshit. The total war series started out as a simplistic, mostly arcade strategy game, with extremely bare bone mechanics both on the battlefield, and espeically on conquest map. That is still true today, but it is much deeper, even though the AI isn't very good, which it never was.

They have always gone for historical RTS games, so I think a fantasy setting is actually too much to ask for, and wouldn't fly with the fanbase.

It's not bad. With mods it's pretty solid, even. Its main problem is its much smaller scale and less playable nations (although mods let you play as all nations, so no problem there) and the fact that it's standalone without imrpoving Empire caused some (understandable) butthurt. The engine is much improved from Empire, battles are much smoother (square formation works a lot better for example), it's more atmospheric than Empire, it's got a bit better AI than Empire, it's basically what Empire should've been from the start - only that it has a rather small map.

Do try some of these mods to check out which plays best for you. They're all major improvements on vanilla. I'm currently on DarthMod with Austria, and it's even slightly challenging (I even lost a battle with almost equal forces once or twice, and lost provinces to the AI which even threatened my capital more than once).
