Which Oblivion mods are you using?

.....uh? my skills? wtf. I lvled up faster using that tactic since sneaking around while constantly using 2 illusion spells (Nightvision & Invisibility) quickly adds up the major skill up. If you really must know, I replayed the game a couple of times and when late game comes, I seriously find the system degenerate into spamming big dmg as fast as possible.

Knight: Finding 25 dmg enchant sword, swing it like a feather duster with minimal power is more effective than pulling a power attack that opens you up wide for 2-3 secs to the other daedras surrounding you. Pull out a soul trap weapon to recharge when needed. Have Shield up for more durability

Rogue: Snipe with poison. Try to strafe from side to side for cover before he can turn around. usually results in 2-3 sneak attacks successfully being pulled off. The pain comes when you have to fight with blades. NOT fun when that happens.

Mage: Spam more nuke. That's all.

So I decided to combine Rogue + Mage and found that certain combo really breaks the challenge. I basically switched Blade weapons with Destruction touch spells. That's all. Why swing a blade that gets blocked resulting into a stagger for your light armoured ass, when you can just do a cold touch for a flat 15-25 dmg from lvl 1 while back n forth pedalling like Frogger?

I loaded up Sagerblitz mod that added big large encounters having multiple bandit / marauder spawns and found this invisibility just ignores them completely too. My question is...why does it seem like the magic system seems powerful at first in regards of dmg but late game it just doesn't cut it?

Again - for those whose first language isnt English - your lvl may scale, abilities do not. Chew on that. . .spit it out. . .take another piece. . .chew on it some more - and them come back 'round these parts; I'm sure you'll have sussed it out by then.

OH. EM. GEE.

I don't know how else to say it other than YOU ARE WRONG. If you don't believe me, do your own fucking research. Your hands are too clammy for me to continue holding them.

Good sucker-punch on the ESL jab, tho. Thank God you repeated it so I wouldn't miss the subtlety.

...Lvl scales, ability do not? Wtf are you talking about? With Lvl comes stats, and then they give mobs skills up making their mace / sword hit harder. THEN they pimp up their gear up to daedric.

Alright man. You're right , their speechcraft is still retarded for a Radiant AI.

O_O am I missing anything? or is ANSD referring to some hidden ability to time blocks & strikes that is different for each player?

I think ANSD is an alt. I refuse to accept there are really people like that.

I found that magic damage was high at the beginning levels, low at the middle levels and again high at the higher levels (18+). 100% weakness to element spell followed by big elemental damage on touch spells allows you to kill pretty much everyone very fast. The speed of mana regeneration calls for using mana as fast as you can. The only 2 monsters I found challenging playing a mage were will-o-wisp at the mid levels and the firefrost elemental near the frozen knight.

If you think a Lvl 20 Rat has the same abilities as say - a Lvl 20 Xavali. . .

Welp - by all means believe that the game operates on a zero-sum system.

Anyone find the Magic system a bit unsatisfying?
I tried out an Illusion boosted Rogue...and find Invisibility very cheap. I tested a dungeon run with it turned on constantly (Breton magicka pool is enough) while in stealth mode. I cleared an Ayleith ruin's loot without killing a single mob O_o cause they simply can't detect me. What's the point of Chameleon spell with crazy high costs ?!

You don't even have to do that.

I just finished the main quest, and spent the best part of the final 2-3 hours of it attempting to kill virtually nothing. I didn't even bother casting invisibility. Just run/jump past everything, cast the occasional health spell if you get scratched, and perhaps a summon to distract them for a few seconds if you somehow find yourself surrounded.

See, oblivion caters to non-combat classes by allowing you a viable non-combat alternative to encounters. You can just run past every sodding enemy in the game...

Yes, invisibility + breton == pwn all. The standard invisibility spell that you get when you reach skill level 50 in illusion has a duration of 35 seconds. With a decent willpower (around 60-ish), 35 seconds are more than enough for your mana to regenerate as you make your way through, especially if you use sneak mode.

As for fighting mobs, it basically goes like this: cast invisibility, get behind mob in sneak mode, swing blade, get 6x damage on mob, cast invisibility again while avoiding counterattacks, rinse, repeat.

I've cleared out Fathis Aren's tower at level 27, which had 3 daedroths, 3 spider daedra, 2 frost atronachs and 2 xivilai, all in the same area, using this method.

I already had Sageblitz's mod loaded, it added about a moderate number of spawn...but bandits seem to go by multiples on the road.

All i gotta say is...it's freakin impossible for Pure Physical Rogue classes to overcome certain dungeons without relying on cheesy poison stacking or simply Illusion their way thru. The mobs have too many hitpoint and numbers on their side. A ranged x3 Sneak attack dmg isn't enough to scratch those heavy HP types like Minotaurs.

It will be once you get better gear and that 4x damage multiplier from Sneak Master. Using sage's mod, which caps Minotaurs, I can take 'em down in 2-3 arrows.

In any case, Thief-type characters shouldn't think of poison as "cheesy". At this point in the game, in fact, I sometimes just sneak through entire dungeons, because I enjoy the exploration even tho combat against yet another Marauder is indescribably boring.

The big problem with sage's mod is with "NPCs", a category which includes Bandits, Necros, Vampires, and even Dremoras. Those beings are only levelled if you start a totally new game with the mod enabled, but you still get the extra numbers even if they're not levelled - so you can end up with 8 Bandits instead of 2, all of them levelled with you. Otoh, the fact that their gear is capped (thanks to Tom Servo's mod) means they're not inappropriately tough and they don't offer ludicrous rewards (like Glass Cuirasses and Daedric Claymores  ).

I have an idea of a mod to enhance oblivion experience. I am going to change the dull text on loading screens to memorable codex quotes about oblivion. There are many loading screens, so I would need some help with finding interesting quotes. Any quote suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here are some examples:

Ah shit, that's fucking hilarious!

There was a VD jibe about training with a dagger to get better with a claymore, with the line 'because when you think about it, as I have done, daggers are little swords' that had me laughing, might try to dredge it up.

Too lazy to check if this has been posted here, but a very good mod list can be found here. (note, more on the other pages)

Shame on Beth for being so lazy, with another aspect of the game. Leave it up to modders to make windows light up at night...

Something so simple, adds so much... yet they couldn't be fucked.
I think that the screens talk for themselves (for those who've seen the boring 'night life' of Oblivion for themselves):

Lazy seems to be the defining definition for Oblivion -- the developers seem to have taken the path of least resistence in every single phase of the game. The more I hear about it, the happier I am that I didn't stump up any money in advance -- or, indeed, at all.

It pisses me off that Bethesda now appear to expect you to download a shit-storm of mods to make the game just about playable instead of downloading some mods to ADD to the experience of playing the game . (Of course, I blame people like Ghan, Dongle, Aerlorn, and all the other quality modders who showed the developers up something rotten by doing stuff that made the "official" mods for MW look like the output of disorganised 12-year olds who've just discovered the CS.)

What? kind'a like they're doing with Oblivion. From the thousands of fan made mods I'm finding it difficult to find anything that offered less than the horse armour. How about the fan created wizards tower? with voiced dialoge and a quest, as opposed to Bethsoft's Wizard Tower inc a note and the keys.

Tho' in all honesty I think the pay mods were ever only meant for the 360 customers.

In about six months this game will be worth playing thanks to the tireless work of the modders. I can't believe how much has come out already (inc a fix for the speech and lockpick skill: Unarmoured, teleport and levitation have returned, along with UI improvements and levelling sorted. Also, improved textures and LOD stuff). Just waiting for Guild requirements, better RAI implementation and more involved questlines.
