Well, sure, except that's not how Steam works at all. I'm pretty sure you can prep any Steam title to play offline after validating once, while I don't think Bio gives you the option.

Well, sure, except that's not how Steam works at all. I'm pretty sure you can prep any Steam title to play offline after validating once, while I don't think Bio gives you the option.

Nah, you have to go online for Steam games every week or two to validate.

Bah, that sucks. I'm used to playing teh gamez online, so I haven't bothered curtailing Steam's internet addiction even tho I feel I really should... I thought it was somewhat less pesky than that.

I think it's game dependent.
I have games on Steam that I am reasonably certain stay in offline mode now that I've set that in Steam.
On the other hand, Sin Episodes requires me to connect every single time I play it (if I don't let it, it locks my computer up).

As for NWN modules, the first three that I bought as a box never require an Internet connection, but the Pirates and Infinite Dungeons ones always do. Like Volourn says, hopefully they'll eventually release a boxed version of the three most recent ones.

Requiring permanent internet connection is even more of a "no-buy" than my experience with NWN1 was regarding NWN2. Seriously, if I buy a game I demand to be able to play it in my bunker after the great fallout as long as I have access to any current at all.

Why do you demand that? Are you worried about Bio going under before you lose interest in their games? Assuming you were interested in Bio games in the first place.

Bio always said they'd release a patch to stop the check if they ever were going to turn off the authentication server.

Once they are going out of business, will they care? Will they even have the money and knowhow left to release this patch at that point? Will they even have the source any more in 5 years? It's a ridiculous pomise, because there is no way they can guarantee they will keep it, even if they absolutely intended to.

Ah, I guess I did come off as terminal. I just meant to say that a game that far away isn't worth thinking about, because 1) it's too damn long to pine over a a game and 2) too much can happen int that time. We've known about dragon age for 2.5 years and we still have the same 3 or so mockup screenshots, and we've learned that you won't be able to be a necromancer leading hordes of the undead afterall. Everything else I've seen is just devs arguing with fans about hypotheticals and design philosophy.

The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr is an artifact currently (AFAIK) in possession of a mist dragon Wyvernvapor. He is quite insane because of the Crown's curse. The party in my game ran into him and fought for a round or two (which resulted in one party member being sent to another plane). Party wizard snatched the crown from the dragon's head, after which the dragon snatched the crown back and dove into the lake, muttering about "protecting his treasure." The party was wise enough not to pursue him.

The Crown has a 500+ year long history, and was originally made by a cabal of wizards to control wyverns and use them for war. You wondered about the dragon, I replied.

Really, you can say whatever you want about FR, but it has the most detailed lore of any game world ever conceived.

I'm not worried about Bio going under. I happen to be traveling a lot so I play a lot of my games on a laptop. I do however not always have access to the interwebs nor am I willing to make sure I always have said access in order to play a single player game.
Sorry, but going "why do you demand that, worried Bioware will go out of business olol?" just doesn't cut it for me.

He forgets that Sammael was clarifying someone being a moron who said 'wyvern? that's no wvyvern, that's a dragon' retarded speel.

He pointed out that it was in reference to a CROWN.

P.S. I believe the module actually has wyverns as well a multitude of other new monsters in it though that's beside the point.

OK, that sounds like a real reason to me. I don't know if a significant percentage of the gaming population is in your situation, though. A lot of big software companies seem to be betting the other way.

I don't expect them to change it for me.
In fact if I where to ever get the game I'm sure some equivalent of those fun tools that are used to circumvent steam online authentication will be available for all my offline gaming needs...

I finished the mod, and while I found WCoC to be generally enjoyable design storywise, there were some major disappointments as well.

1. I didn’t feel the horses added much to the game. The whole hitching/unhitching/having to get the NPCs to mount up/accidentally leaving horses behind even though you didn’t intend to was pretty lame. Plus areas/quests that required you to have a horse to access were also annoying as I gave up bothering with them half way through the game and then had to slog back to town to pick up one when I got to an area that needed them later in the game.

2. Some of the quests were needlessly annoying – I never managed to do a particular quest because despite wasting a couple of hours talking to everyone in town and doing all the quests for the chick in the trading house, I still didn’t get the option to continue it so in the end gave up – great design there…also why on earth can’t I go back to areas I have already been too? I got a license to bury my dad’s remains but then couldn’t go back to fetch them (I hadn’t noticed them at the beginning) because the game wouldn’t let me.

3. The jousting bored me to tears and I was actually glad when I lost because I could then get on with the rest of the game. It was about as much fun as pressing random keys on a keyboard and hoping a coherent word appears on the screen can be, I suppose…

4. I got an annoying bug at the end when my LE Fighter/Blackguard intimidated the Foozle into serving me and I got the message “Let me Show you a Vision of the Future” and then the conversation ends but nothing happens. So I talk to him again and doing the same conversation sequence he attacks me. Also got a Bug with an NPC who won’t level up. Finally the rating at the end needed further extrapolation. I got “69%” which is about as good as getting a marked essay back from a teacher with a grade but no comments. Pretty lame.

5. It’s very difficult to make enough money to buy a warhorse at the beginning of the game (needed for the joust to prove yourself to the local lord) and I only found fairly lame battle axes (my weapon of specialisation) throughout the game, which was disappointing.

Well, I hadn’t played NWN for over a year and this proved to me the need for a sequel. The engine is clunky and well past its due date and I honestly can’t wait for FULL NPC control again ala BG – I forgot just how awful the NWN control system was.

WCoC was an enjoyable enough D&D romp but the “innovations” feel tacked on and badly implemented to me.

There's Lady in Town willing to give you warhorse, providing you have social skills (should be easy with Black Guard who has tagged both intimidation and persuasion) to convince her you're pro and you can make your dream weapon at smithy using shards of weapons you find in the game and special ingredients.

Module is much more better than OC, Horse fighting and Justing are great additions (try to ask local peasants for your opponents weak points) and is best to be played with Lawful characters.
