Squeenix Largest battle in final fantasy tactics?

Hey bros, can anyone remember what the largest battle in Final Fantasy Tactics was off the top of their head? As in, number of opponents faced?

I generally feel that FFT had this balance right, I thought Tactics Ogre LUCT had a few too many to kill which made the fights go a bit longer. If you know what the largest battle in LUCT was that would be a great help too.

\\ 40. Bethla Garrison part 2 \\ Guests: N/A \\ Difficulty: 7
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Enemies:
---------
Knight x4
Archer x2
Wizard x2

Got this from gamefaqs. Rest of the maps had generally 5-7 enemies.

Most important thing in difficulty is the quality of encounter though. Monsters with special abilites and maps with special tricks are the hardest parts of these type of games. Especially if you're unprepared.

My memory is a bit hazy but i think i remember random encounters with status effect monsters that can stun lock you indefinitely or monters that does not get hurt by physical attacks. Those were the ones that i died to most.

Oh and if you want challange i recommend Wild Arms XF for the psp. That was the hardest tactical rpg i played on consoles. I didn't played too many of them though.

There's also that special random battle with 11 monks.

If you're talking about the monk battle, its at Grog Highs, north of Lesalia.

Always 11, always male. Never 8 million.

(forum is for the PSP release but it was on the PSX version as well)

Wiegraf's last battle is the most harrowing one even though it has only four enemies. They are beefy spellcasters and you're on a two-person wide corridor. And you have to duel with him before that.

I think the 11 Monks one is the "largest", yes.

The Monster Super Battle with Dragons/Tiamats/Behemoths (IIRC) is a killer as well.

Balk 2 is intense because you have a surprisingly, long-ranged tanky annoying asshole who has Tiamats as backup.

Interesting! Thanks for the info bros. I think for this game the Belius fight was the most difficult whenever I played it through. Hard to beat it without cheap stuff like auto potion.

I think between 5 and 7 enemies is a good thing to aim at for having nice, tight encounters.

Belias can actually be trivialized with some strategies, which I usually don't use and most mods try to "fix" anyway.

1) Run around and constantly buff Ramza during the "duel" section until he has like 99 in a stat and can one-shot him. Ramza will usually get a first turn when Belias spawns compared to the rest of his party, so he can just waltz up and one-shot Belias too.

2) Extremely glass-cannon strategy with your fastest characters, like 5 ninjas or something. Belias doesn't really have that much HP and you can easily bum-rush the guy rather than trying to play a long game. Extra points if he does something stupid like try to Charge a Summon on you that won't resolve until all your characters get a turn.

If you have 5 ninjas by that point in the game, you're powergaming so hard nothing else can touch you anyway.

A monk Ramza will chew through the duel, but you can also steal a chameleon robe in a random battle in the area near Wiegraf's battle site. It absorbs Holy so he won't cause much trouble.

The fights leading up to and against Wiegraf/Belias is one of the best parts in the game.
Too bad it's immediately followed by the single worst most luck-based escort mission ever, ruining the moment.

I hate using cheap tactics, I also hate power gaming. But that fight makes it pretty necessary to do these things before it. I've recently got the game on my phone so I'm playing it through again, it's just as awesome as it was back in the day. Haven't got too far yet but I'm really going to try to beat him fair and square this time without auto potion.

Well. These types of games kinda forces player to do some sidequests or grinding to keep up with the level of the enemies. So you start grinding and grinding and endless hours of grinding, once you start it you want to see what lies in the end of all this grinding and when you saw it you destroy all the challange and the fun game is supposed to has.

At least that's what happens when i play these type of games. I lose all the challange after the halfway due to shit like this. But frankly this game was fun to grind due to job system and possibilities it had with it. Most games aren't this fun when you try to explore the character limits.

I never really did grinding in this game all that much at all tbh. It's generally pretty easy. There's only a couple of challenging fights. But yeah getting all the jobs is a very cool bonus to grinding, but I thought of them as replay value, like next time I'm going to try geomancers and summoners instead of what I did this time etc.,

I generally agree with you but in this case you can kind of think of the jobs like C&C as your party make up really does effect your experience with the game as it's really just fighting.

That fight sequence is a bit traumatizing since you are allowed to save after you are down there, which means that people that keep a single save file may need to restart the entire game if they have no way of taking on Wiegraf. This created the myth that you have to be crazy prepared and bring 5 ninjas with auto-potion. Just make sure to keep a save on the world map so you can get better equipment / skills if you need to.

Yeah it's pretty scummy that way. I had a friend that rage quit the game because of it. It was hilarious.

Sorry, couldn't resist

There are plenty of low level speed run/guide of this game, just saying.. It's not really only for role playing purpose, it can also work more as a self challenge

You actually don't need to rely on luck for that at all really, the AI goes after the target with the lowest hp, so if you strip a character naked and put them in range they'll bait everything.

The shittiest part is trying to rob the fuckers of the fancy items.
