<p>Now this is more of a fluff piece than news, but I'm going to post it anyway. <a href="http://www.armchairgeneral.com/index.php?" target="_blank" title="ACG">The Armchair General</a> has an interactive combat story (aka Choose Your Own Adventure With Guns) titled <a href="http://www.armchairgeneral.com/articles.php?p=3166&page=1&cat=59" target="_blank" title="Third Planet From Altair">"First Night in Normandy"</a> that lets you make your way through the D-Day paratroop drop. Will you survive, etc?</p><blockquote><p align="justify">After a few minutes of travel, you see a glint of metal ahead in the darkness between two trees. You reach into your pocket and retrieve the cricket, a small toy given to all the paratroopers to identify one another in the darkness, and give it a single click. There is no response from the darkness and you bring your rifle up to your shoulder.</p><p align="justify">If you fire into the darkness, Go to <a href="http://www.armchairgeneral.com/articles.php?page=1&p=3166&page=14">14</a>.</p><p align="justify">If you call out &ldquo;Flash&rdquo;, Go to <a href="http://www.armchairgeneral.com/articles.php?page=1&p=3166&page=20">20</a>.</p></blockquote><p align="justify">When in doubt, always fire into the darkness. But no fair peeking ahead at the endings.</p><p>Spotted @ <a href="http://www.armchairgeneral.com/">Armchair General</a></p>

Your mission has been a failure. It will, in all likelihood, not deter the invasion but it may stall the advance from the beach and lead to higher casualties.

That was fun but you can't actually get the best result. Page 15 has the best end with "The continued arrival of reinforcements secures the objective, thanks in large part to your haste, diligence and valor. The bridges are secured and the men on the beaches now have a route inland! Congratulations!" but you get there from page 31. The only way to get to page 31 is from page 11... and there's no page that actually links to page 11.

I had a poke around and guessed something of the sort, but I was too lazy to go over the whole thing and make sure. Maybe they're trying to give us a Deep Message(tm) about the Futility of War(tm).

Goodness, Greene is death-prone. It seems like every encounter I have with him, he has a 50/50 chance of being riddled with bullets.

He's a meatshield. If you try those encounters without him, it's usually you that gets riddled with bullets.
