People should be fucking embarrassed engaging in academic analysis of video games.

Should people be embarrassed about doing research on endoscopy, or drug addiction, or fundamentalist religion, or the role of humour in social interaction, or conspiracy theories, etc?

More accurately, the problem is that we have far too much academic analysis of video games that does it wrong, by taking games seriously in a way that is not relevant to anybody - gamers, non-gamers, even other academics. I'm not going to bother with the video but odrzut's summary seems to show this is yet another use of academic language that doesn't stop to think about itself.

Not sure why. Video games are a product of a culture, focusing on them tells you something about said particular culture. If you're saying that video games are unworthy of academia, I guess this might mean that you have a high opinion of it, which is really fucking embarassing.

Metro more or less directly stated in, I think it was the ES thread, that no one could say anything about video games that he didn't already know. Not much need for academia if that's your outlook.

Except more often than not academia focuses on the high echelons of culture, not on the trash. I mean, these are also products of a culture: porn magazines, junk food, wrestling, nascar racing, barbie toys, my little ponies etc.

For example, Romanian "canonical" writers (Eminescu, Creanga, Caragiale) have made a bunch of weird shit in their lifespans, like porn stories, political propaganda or sci-fi stories. Do you think those are the works studied and heavily discussed and taught in high school and college?
FUCK. NO. The total opposite in fact, everyone is ignoring them and dismissing them.

In more than a few months, any blockbustery movie or any video game you put on a pedestal and "analyze" will be gone from cultural consciousness, and those criticisms will look like nothing more than overthinking rants done by people with too much free time on their hands.

The most interesting aspect about Citizen Kane was that, people still actually talked about it the next year, then the year after that. Pretty much up until today. Your retarded pretentious shit about the touching story of Witcher and cultural relevance of Gone Home is forgotten in a week. Does anyone remember Spec Ops the Line? I thought so

Hey, at least she's better than this schmuck:

47% of women are gamers? Well, sure, but you know, they play The Sims and Facebook games. Multiplayer games like M&B, Chivalry, War of the Roses, Red Orchestra, ArmA, Counter-Strike, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Wargame, Starcraft... are almost solely played by men, MMOs are also dominated by men (albeit on lesser degree) and who the fuck cares if 70% of people who plays Twitcher 3 and other singleplayer games has penises or vaginas. Srsly, stop linking these feminist videos. This dude is dumb and pathetic.

Yeah, those heels are bullshit. Rest of the design is ok though.

Edit: the makeup/mascara is really modern-looking nonsense as well.

I'm impressed the concept artist had the restraint to put just 3 belts and 2 kinda belts on her.
