San Andreas updated on Steam
:

http://www.rockstarnexus.com/articl...ated-on-Steam-removes-songs-and-reverts-fixes

  • Adds support for XInput controllers (Xbox 360 controller)
  • Makes "Steering with Mouse" enabled by default
  • Removes several songs for all owners (Seems to be same songs that were cut from the mobile version. We would have liked to see a situation similar to VC where only new Steam copies had songs removed and those who had purchased it before got to keep the songs.)
  • Removes several resolution options, including 1920x1080 (This was broken in the original version, then fixed in an update - now unfixed with this latest update)
  • Loading a game save from the original version just starts a new game
Latest GTA: San Andreas Steam Patch Removes Licensed Music:
http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2014/1...as-steam-patch-removes-licensed-music/116307/

The latest Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas patch on Steam, which adds Xbox 360 controller support and a few other things, but removes seventeen songs from the game, including:

PLAYBACK FM

“Critical Beatdown”

K-DST
“Running Down A Dream”
“Woman To Woman”

Bounce FM
“You Dropped A Bomb On Me”
“Yum Yum”
“Running Away”

Radio Los Santos
“I Don’t Give A f*ck”
“Express Yourself”

Radio X
“Killing in the Name of”
“Hellraiser”

K-Jah West
“Ring My Bell”
“Don’t Let It Go To Your Head”

MasterSounds 98.3
“Express Yourself”
“Rock Creek Park”
“Grunt”
“Soul Power ’74”
“The Payback”
[UPDATE] "Funky President" also removed. [UPDATE]

These are the same songs that were removed when the game was released on iOS. The songs were reportedly removed due to their rights expiring.
This change affects all Steam owners of the game, regardless of when they purchased the game.

The loss of those absurdly high resolutions is no big deal since the human eye can't see beyond 900p@30fps anyway

I wonder if mods still work...

I just installed this:

left mouse button only works occasionally in menus
image is stretched
controlling the camera with mouse only works from time to time
game crashed when I tried using Asi Loader
moving camera "too far" up

Using the framerate limiter caps the framerate at 26fps, which is of course the framerate most PC gamers desire in 2014.

Another excellent job R*, thanks.

Losing the song that California Love sampled is harsh. Good thing I have the DVD version (and got 100% and have no intention of touching it again).

It was the same deal with the original release, which capped it at 25. The game was designed with that framerate in mind (we're talking ps2/xbox generation here) and unlocking it can result in oddities.

I wonder if the "modders will fix it" mantra still applies if the developers have intentionally broken their game. That's more like necromancy than a repair job. Modders will raise it?

edit: haha, someone actually did the "gamers r entitled" argument without a hint of irony

Next you buy a CD, I will personally remove some tracks from it ok?

TheRetrodude said:
You didn't buy music, however. You bought the license to play a video game. What the developers do to that game is entirely up to them, and they removed some music tracks to avoid an expensive fiasco of a lawsuit from music labels. Does it suck that you won't hear some of your favorite tracks in the game? Of course, yes. Is it illegal that the developer patched out licensed content they no longer own the rights to use? Not at all. They have the right to make changes to their product at any time without warning.

just kneel and suck it, gosh so troublesome

You're paying for San Andreas, not the songs. They can change the songs around just like Netflix can change the movies around.
So they could just change the sounds and songs into farts, would the game be what I payed for?
They have no right to remove content from the game. I can still listen Billie Jean in Vice City but it is removed from later versions sold. Why remove songs from San Andreas?

It's probably down to something similar to Patent Trolling. In theory a company could buy some rights to some old music scores and then start's trying to threaten to sue anyone using an expired license. (especially companies that have made alot of money)
That would be the reason why such companies as Rockstar might capitulate. Your anger shouldn't be at Rockstar but at the companies that now hold those music score licenses.

The company that has made a lot of money is fucking over old customers so they don't have to lose some of that money, don't be mad at them.

Just by a retail version of the game?

Buy a second copy of the game to show Rockstar how disappointed you are. #OccupyGaben

My guess is they had to either pay to license the music to keep selling the game, or would need to pull it. They probably decided it wasn't worth the money.

No excuse for the current rubbish situation.

When this came up with Vice City they simply created a new app id.
New buyers get a version with songs cut, but the old customers got to keep the soundtrack intact...

IMHO, really good OST was only in Vice City. In SA I liked only K-Rose and may be half of K-DST (including Running Down A Dream)

I do wonder how those other... issues were introduced however. Is this actually the same PC version, or is this a port of the Android version (new menus etc.)?
That would make sense for *new* sales, but they removed content from previously purchased copies.

WAT. :retarded:

THAT'S FIVE EXTRA F'S YOU FUCKING ENTITLED MANBABY! STOP WHINING!

Rockstar is a weird case. They usually at least try to make/publish a good game even when it's bad (GTAIV had good ambitions, just it sucked shit) but when it comes to PC they're at best negligent and at their worst, actively trying to make things miserable for everyone.

I mean, the song thing is a copyright issue, but usually copyrights aren't enforced unless you update/re-release something. So, what's the point? Aside from that there is no excuse for the resolution thing, that is heinous.

And this is why pirating is necessary to exist. When Lucas and Spielberg edited some of their old movies, it did not cause your copy to cease existing. When your PS2 and PC DVDs stop working (And mine works fine right now, but one day they will degrade even if I don't live to see it.) someone will need to distribute the image, the original image, so that people in the future can enjoy the games that get shitty patches like this, just as we did.
