Dark Sun: Shattered Lands. I was put off by the clunky interface and how the combat feedback is low (which especially grated on my nerves considering that everyone attacks multiple times per turn).

Light up a joint and load it up again.

I would have killed to play this game back in the day. I bought it and it didn't work on my pc.

Whole Codex finally sees the light and shits on old shitty unplayable games ass to ass. I did not think I would live to see that day.

It is because of all the new fag anime kiddies. All the classics the Codex used to love are now total shit. But Metal Gear Rising is the best game ever. BEST GAME EVER DON'T EVEN FUCKING QUESTION IT.

When the dick-sucking, doggy-style loving "pretends he is a bunny in bed" faglord has better taste than 90% of the current posters you know the board has jumped the shark.

Wizardry 8, combination of UI and combat turned me off.

Legend of Grimrock, terribad chachacha simulator combat.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect, not really classics but a lot of Codexers seem to like them, just very meh, tedious games, tried both and couldn't finish them.

BG1: despite many restart and attempts to complete it~ 7 times! The longest ever reach is past the Temple fight. The game is just... meh somehow. There's only so much BG1 anyone can take. Though contrary to main campaign I complete the TOSC expansion at least twice. Currently playing BG1 Reloaded, a NWN2 mod to total convert it to this engine. We shall see if I can finish this. (Also, contrary to BG1, BG2 I can complete just fine~3 times, I think). ITs fault fundamentally are not the gameplay or engine, because I did abandon a BGT run in BG1 portion. stories, NPC, and pacing, I think.

Wizardry series. I just cant get into this series. Install, making some party, go around 15 minutes, abandon~

Gothic series: not into it. Dated look. Same with SS2, Darklands and Gold box series. I may try Pool of Radiance Reloaded mod on NWN2 engine after BGR.

Looking through the RPGCodex Top 70 list:
Arcanum and Baldur's Gate 1. BG2 wasn't much better.

Also Planet Escape: Tournament is a massive chore to play. It's worth it for the writing but it's a huge pain in the ass to actually get through the game.

I can't really play blobbers anymore, either. I used to be able to, maybe my attention span has just gone to shit.

If we're counting ME and DA as Codex classics, ironically or otherwise, I absolutely hated both series, although I've only played ME1, ME2 and DA:O. I'm genuinely mystified by the popularity of Mass Effect.

Icewind Dale: I played too much Baldur's Gate and got spoiled by the Stratagems mods, so now IWD feels too easy and too linear. Creating a full party is nice but I never stick around long enough to finish it. I'm not really a fan of RTwP either, so I always feel like I might as well be playing ToEE instead if I just wanted a tactical DnD dungeon crawler.

M&M VI: I really tried to like this one, but I always get burnt out like 1/3 of the way through. The real-time combat addition just fucked up the series' gameplay mechanics IMO and since the setting/story aren't enough to draw me in I can only endure for so long.

Hi!

This is a message from Forum Relocation Services.

Do you feel like you're wasting time?
Do you think games older than 1997 are terrible?
Dying because of a dice roll is too much for you?
Do you feel immunities giving 100% protection is absurd?
Would you like predetermined outcomes?

You are not alone. In fact our records show that 9 out of 10 people are unhappy on rpgcodex and are dreaming of a more popamole life.

To help you and others like you live a happier and carefree life we are now offering an unique opportunity.

All you need to do is register at one of our main popamole locations. We strongly recommend rpgwatch.com and ign.com

Thank you and have a great day!

I like all videogames the Codex likes and I dislike all games that the Codex dislikes. Incline! Decline! Magazine! Rape! Prestige! Liberals! Bro! I talk about games I hate at great length! Potato! Tranny!

PS:T. I'm too much of a combatfag and playing PS:T is absolutely disgusting. I still beat it and as everyone knows the setting and characters are great, but holy shit it's so fucking awful to play.

Arcanum. Almost exact same reasoning as PS:T. Shitty shit shit. I even liked Bloodlines' combat compared to Arcanum. Still didn't stop me from buying it of course, so I can still wave my fist in the air and curse You People for the death of Troika.

Gothic 1 and 3 (Haven't given 2 a good shake yet). I probably would've liked and stuck with Gothic 1 if not for the controls, but the flailing around combat annoyed the shit out of me. Morrowind's clickfest was easier for me to live with since I could just lean back and assume dice rolls were happening (And man I played the shit out of Morrowind), but with Gothic 1 there was a lot of wrestling with the controls and cursing. Actually got a fair few hours in before it pissed me off bad enough I stopped. Gothic 3, stunlocking. Stunlocking killed it for me. 30 orcs and you're level 1? No problem, just keep clicking that mouse. Some aspects seemed cool but again, the combat killed it for me.

Mass Effects 1 and 2 (Haven't touched 3). I assume this counts as a Codex classic, so yeah. I dragged my ass through ME1 and 2 and didn't like 'em. I've considered trying to deathmarch the whole thing for shits and giggles but haven't worked up the nerve. ME2 would've been a move in the right direction if it didn't have all that goddamn Bioware bloat everywhere. DAO at least was good for what it was and thinking on it I can dimly remember enjoying a few fights. Thinking about ME I just remember stilted Bioware dialog, Moon Patrol, and going through the same prefab areas over and over.

That's basically it though. Lotta bad people in this thread. Lotta really bad people. Kinda surprised at the Baldur's Gate hate too, no wonder people were bitching about BGEE. Shits don't even like the games. Read the entire rest of the thread up to this point to see if I missed anything, and no. I played and enjoyed (To varying degrees. Even DAO) most everything else. From this I learned what I already knew, I'm a combatfag first and foremost. I even rubbed ToEE all over my greasy folds more than a lot of these games.

I really couldn't get into PS:T because of the setting. I hate playing as a corpse.

And although I have high hopes for Pillars of Eternity, I really couldn't bring myself to play any IE games for any substantial amount of time. It must be the feeling of controlling a bunch of puppets instead of people. And the warcraft-like spoken confirmations when clicking on a character aren't helping either.

Betrayal at Krondor did it all right in my book.

My problem with gothic (i love it honest) is the same with ever 'forest' explorefag rpg, but worse. The forest covers you movement far far too effectively. The last thing you want when you're doing some precision jumping on a shit computer is to have the last few pseudo-meters of your calculated suicidal jump blind because of trees, but that happens extremely often in Gothic 2.

I think some kind of option like the D:OS see through but with a cone with base on the character and oriented towards camera vector only affecting large vegetation instead of just deleting everything, could be good for gothic likes (yes you can keep your grass, i only want to see the cliff i'm jumping off).

At least no-one's mentioned Thief yet.

I'm p. sure J_C didn't like Thief as well.

SS2 aged very well. SS1, on the other hand...

... has aged even better thanks to no awkward character textures.

And see if I give a shit that you aren't a helicopter pilot and find the controls bad :rpgcodex:
