tl;dr all-or-nothing builds may not overperform regulars more while paying a way too high price for being so specialised.

Sorry, I'm too busy for any sorts of discussions atm. To put it shortly - the thing is that the dumped str monk is the tank, not the damage dealer. And if you start evening his stats out, he won't become that much of a dd but he'll definitely stop being a tank. Though I agree that even on the tank 25% attack speed is probably good 1st level choice simply to throw those anguishes faster. That's a good suggestion, I'll add an errata to the vid. So while we want to have high str and stuff, that leads us to pretty much another, not so tanky monk build (and they are also in the video). So it's all about focusing on what you want to do with the character. Besides, it's not like the char you're talking about is not min-maxed - you want to have high might, per and res, that already leads to a 18-3-10-18-8-18 build (or swap the int & con). That's also pretty min-maxed, tbh.

Playing a monk any other way but unarmed and unarmored would just feel very wrong for me, how would such a build scale in power?

Glass Joe. You can only go unarmored if you have high DPS and good endurance draining weapon. Fists provide neither.

The truth is, as I found out in PoTD after trying your ideas and mine - high constitution does not make character a tank. I tried moon godlike 18 Per & Res, 10 Con monk and he is as tanky as he was. I think you only want high con if you want to survive Adra dragon's breath attack :M

Some people on Obsi forums state monk's speed with fists is very rad and on high levels it does pay off to use them.

That's cause the moon godlike is a very balanced race. In my other videos, I propose 3 Con frontline moons and that absolutely works because healing is insane. You think that's a scrawny 30 hp minCon godlike but no, add in the waves and they're actually 60 hp (whereas even the 18 con barbs are 54 or so). And that lasts up to endgame, where waves are free 300-360 endurance each combat.

That's just the weird need to prove that fisting is good. They're fast weapons, as I understand, and enchanted stilettos are still better.

It's not weird man (not much anyway), If I'm not playing Bruce Lee type kickass martial artist char then what's the point of going with the monk? Slap armor and weapon on him and it's like every other boring tank class in this game with slightly different mechanics, it loses all of it's appeal for me.

Real shaolin monks use a crapload of weapons, y'know. Even for Bruce Lee there are his iconic nunchakus. Though, of course, they really should've put some of exotic monk weapons in the game.

ed: another thing is that flavour of the monks here seems to be clother to european flagellants than to the eastern stuff. A crossbreed between those. It's not that I'm against the monks fighting unarmed & stuff, but people want this to be a carbon copy of DnD a bit too much.

Monks do higher damage with their fists than other classes, but it's not enough to stay competitive with weapons.

The wound mechanic is a unique mechanic. Attacking unarmed and with no/light armor is functionally the same as attacking with weapons and heavy armor. Besides, armor slows you down and makes you gain wounds slower, so there is an incentive to fight without armor.

I'm not really thinking in regards to historical accuracy or something but more that it's a fantasy archetype I'd like to play, there's just something awesome about beating fantastical creatures like Dragons, vampires, mind flayers etc. to death with your bear fists. Sure, dual-wielding kamas or whatever would feel more appropriate than stilettos but it wouldn't be what I'm looking for either.

That aside, do you know if (and how) Finishing blow stacks with Death Godlike unique ability?

That's really hard to trace, unfortunately. But, tbh, it's an overkill - there are very few foes against whom this will be actualy beneficial and, in the long run something like the orlan's passive will bring more overall damage to the rogue.

ed: btw, the only thing I truly loathe about PoE is its combat log. I see no point in going all oldschool and and complex and not showing us the entirety of attack calculations and breakdowns in the log.

Hey Pope Amole IICan't wait for druid class.
My guide:
- Have druid in party
- Profit

:kingcomrade:

Was switching weapons on my monk recently and found an interesting thing - a fist (which can act as single weapon) did 20-29 crushing, while rapier 10-20.
I think it's because weapon just multiplies its damage while monk fist has a flat bonus. Meaning monk with 10 str does double damage with regular fist, and 20 is actually a respectable number for just 10 str monk.
Thought it was interesting.

Well, fists can be nice early to mid-game weapon against the right foes, I guess, but their main problem is accuracy. I mean, monks start with 30 accuracy + 33 for level ups + 6 for weapon focus. That's only 69. Something like adra dragon has 116 deflection. At least ordinary weapons at this stage will have accuracy bonuses to battle that, whereas monk will have to rely solely on buffs to hit at least half of the time. That's an extreme example but this lack of accuracy hurts nevertheless.

THe rest of the videos - fighters, wizards, druids:

Of course, I'll update the vid and this time there also will be feat review. Maybe in the same vid, maybe in the separate one.

Between exceptional (and that's rapier with extra +5) weapon and fist the difference is just 1 point at level 12. It changes when you get Superb weapon though but it takes time to get to that.

Anyhow I found my monk's accuracy enough for PoTD. The d100 system with grazes by it's nature gives an advantage to attacker in my opinion, with spells too.

Fun build, would kick dragon again.

Another Gaiden up - well, it can be argued whether it deserves to be gaiden or a full-blooded funbuilding, but I don't think it's that much of an RPG. Anyhow, Dex:

Where is mah 48 hours in one day?

Sorry, it's just that I don't have enough time to LP it in both languages (especially since I gotta also play through the witcher atm and 28 may it's the serpent in the staglands time). And see, after the PoE surge my audience is suddenly 66% russian, 34% english, and it's mostly the russian parts (absolutely, to be precise) that nagged me about LPing it.

lol at your review. "Tedious slog" "95 % of boring filler trash with nothing to do but just walk and fight" "Shouldn't even buy this at discount"
