There are tons of prepaid debit cards you can get that can have any made-up name (or not) attached to them.

Cool. Is it possible to pay with it on Steam?

Any online/over phone 100%. There's a distinction between purely virtual cards and physical ones. (i.e you can get a prepaid rewards card that can only be used online, or a physical one that also be swiped in actual shops)

The worrisome thing was the misuse (albeit unintentional) of information provided in confidence, no matter how small, coupled with a lack of any statement acknowledging that it was wrong and would not happen again. And yes that was worrisome, unless you're an idiot or don't plan to ever donate or give a shit about any of the people who donated.

This thread has eliminated that second part though. DU has admitted that it was the wrong thing to do, promised that it wouldn't happen again, and stated that in the future people acting like utter morons will just be banned instead. That's the best that anyone can really hope for or expect. Is it unreasonable if someone decides they can't trust the sincerity of the apology after the breach of trust? Not especially, but in the end there's nothing that they or DU can do about that. The damage has already been done, and it's not like DU can do anything to prove his sincerity beyond the shadow of a doubt over the internet (short of something overblown and retarded like providing hostages or some shit), so the only options are to either accept it as sincere and move on, or pack up and leave if they're still worried. DU seems to get this, as he's offered a way out for people who feel that way.

Personally I figure yes it was unintentional, and yes I do think DU genuinely intends to avoid it in the future, so I'm sticking around. If this sort of thing happened again, then yeah I'd reconsider.

Is it normal if you freak out when the cashier at the supermarket calls you by your name after seeing it on your credit card
Unlike DU, you and certain others still don't seem to get the problem though, which I guess is cause for concern should DU kick the bucket in an unfortunate dingo-related accident and the reign of Infinitron begin in a brutal coup.

No, I don't see the "problem". Wow, people calling each other by their first names when they learn them, SHOCKING.

It seems to me like this is an Internet forum culture thing, like people think it's weird to call each other by their names and eventually they begin thinking that's actually secret information. So yeah, maybe doing that is sort of like a breach of etiquette, an indiscretion. But it's not actually OMG IMMORAL, so get over it.

Will the next "breach of trust" investigation be into how screenshots from the admin forum ended up on Twatter?

While it had the outcome I wanted (he got the message and finally understood that shit's not ok), the ends do not justify the means. I also accept that the manner in which I posted his first name may have looked like a threat that more information would be revealed if he didn't STFU. That was not my intent. But I accept it could be viewed that way.

Effectively doxxing someone (potentially with privileged information that I was entrusted with) even if that person has doxxed and has threatened to doxx other users, is not on.
:salute: I'm happy to read this. I was pretty sure that you hadn't revealed the info out of malice, what worried me was that The Administration(tm) might resort to an ends justify the means approach with some users regarding doxxing, something I personally disagree with but also think wouldn't benefit The Codex in the long run. Hope you guys don't go full Orwell with the updated ToS though...

That investigation has already been resolved. Luckily for the culprit, DU rarely cares about leaks. Which, by the way, wasn't actually from the admin forum.

Ah, ok. The inner workings of the order are rather opaque to us lowly newfags, but it seemed a bit of a strange incident at the time.

No, because I already told him it was me. Since DU wasn't awake to say it himself, I showed people what his statement on the matter was, given that he's said a number of times that he doesn't give a fuck if what he says in the "Contact Us" subforum is made public, and it was better to show people what actually happened than to let them keep theorizing about DU maliciously poring over financial records to find something to use against ironyuri.

Given that that post is what showed people that DU didn't do this intentionally, and that ironyuri went full bipolar on him after he did it, it hardly harmed his case, and instead put a stop to a lot of rumour.

The fact that it ended up on Twitter was unfortunate, but ultimately harmless.

Also truth will set you free and all that.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015
Tbh, there is no need for an updated ToS. Honestly, folks:

5. This is Our House
I'm a big believer in free speech, even if that means I disagree with 92% of what gets posted on the Codex. While I might disagree with you, I believe you have a right to say it. Even if some people find it out-right offensive. I believe the best way to deal with an issue is through debate. And it's that principle the Codex was founded upon. Don't agree with something someone said? Well, say something about it. Convince them that what they said was wrong / inappropriate / stupid / whatever.
At the end of the day though, if you feel a punishment you've received is not appropriate - that you really did nothing wrong; or that we've failed to act appropriately in dealing with something, please keep this in mind: This is our house, not yours. You are here because The Management™ let you be here. You are allowed to post your crap because The Management™ has a high tolerance for crap. And The Management™ is not easily offended.
But everything has limits. For the most part, you should expect the moderators to follow and enforce these rules but while I will happily argue with you about it until page 57 and beyond, if you are having trouble grasping who's in control here - or you think you have some legal right of appeal; that you can "rule-nazi" your way out of a hole - think again.
The best way to think of the Codex is like a pub. You're free to come in, buy a drink and chat about whatever you like with the other people you find here. As much as possible, we're not going to decide what is or isn't an inappropriate topic to talk about; or an inappropriate subject to joke about - and some of the stuff posted on the Codex is down-right offensive in that regard. But you're not allowed to trash the place, or get into a physical brawl with the other customers. Words are fine. You have rights, but your rights don't over-rule someone elses rights.
And as owners of the pub, we reserve the right to throw your ass out at any time, for whatever reason.
So while that freedom of speech has been tested over the years, as long as you keep a modicum of respect for each other, and keep that shit in the appropriate forum or thread, you generally won't have any trouble from The Management™.

There is NO NEED for any new rules, it's all there. "Old law is good law" and all that common law wisdom comes to mind here.

I think it grates on almost everyone. Just not enough for us to stop going to the store. For .00000000000001% of people, it's awesome and they love it. This makes it a net plus for the company even though nearly everyone hates it.

Capitalism FTW baby.
There are people who will harass cashiers and snitch on them for not behaving like this in Kwa.

It's easy to do. The touchpad at Walmart for instance tends to ask you whether the cashier greeted you properly.
I was thinking about normal stores. With stuff like some people demanding smiles, etc. D: . Heard some horror stories D: .

Walmart isn't a normal store? But yeah, if you don't smile, you're fired. That's pretty normal.

Edit: Of course, there are regional differences. In some areas of the US, people tend to be quite unfriendly, in others the opposite.
