If you are having loading time problems, try using the contig file defragmenter. Go to you witcher directory on the command line and:

contig -s -v *

Should defrag all those chunky binaries without having to do your whole drive.

Thanks! I'll try it. Surely I have very fragmented drive...

I am sorry but the recommended are way too high...

Why the hell do I need a dual core for this shit?

If anybody is still undecided, just BUY THE DAMN GAME ALREADY. Don't bloody warez it either. This is the best RPG since Troika left us.

These are bold words... It almost sounds like a dream come true.

I shall definitely purchase the Witcher when the opportunity arises (which means - early next year, unfortunately).

Well i like it....

It's got some minor issues, but nothing truly game killer it is a great game.

Now and the Erotic art is very tasteful and well made.

Any way you can tell which version you are running? Downloaded patch from unofficial website but not sure if it installed correctly.

Picked up the CE Edition today, must admit I haven't seen as nicely a filled box since the old big-box days, lot's of goodies. The art book is nice, but the erotica pretty tacky.

Game seems reasonable so far, though I'm still in the start castle. Combat is very twitchy in comparison to say NWN, it's fun now - but can see it getting tedious fast. You also can't seem to que up strikes, which makes the pause mode only useful really for potion drinking.

Interface is a little bit distracting and in your face, but seems to do it's job well enough. Not sure on the camera modes, their locked onto you and turn with you. I keep wanting to zoom out more and scroll independently, but this is probably down to the fact I've just been playing MOTB, than any flaw.

Story seems ok, the voice acting is fine, the dialogue though seems a bit weird. It's pretty obvious it's translated and doesn't flow particularly well. Not seen much C&C, but I am very early in at the mo.

The lip synch is appallingly bad, not that I care, but given the high detail of the characters and the amount of cinematic close ups it really does stand out :P

I'm running it on mostly medium settings on a XP2800/9800 pro/1gig PC, it seems to jerk a bit when cinematics kick in, but is perfectly playable otherwise. Only crashes I've had (with 1.1) have been when I alt-tab out.

Earlier in this topic there was some discussion about which countries are censoring which stuff. I believe that I read that the US censors the sex, and the UK censors the violence. Is there any country that has an English version that contains everything, with no censorship?

The UK version censors the violence? What the fuck. I'm so sick of this censorship shit. I'm an adult, I can decide what I can and can't see, I don't need anyone else to do that for me. I wish all these government fags would just foad.

That would be great. What I read ("UK censors violence") was around page 2, 3 or 4 of this topic. Maybe they were just speculating. Maybe I misread. I hope so.

So that would mean that if I wanted to have the full experience as the developers intended, but in English, then I could import the UK version. I hope that's true.

I thought only the German version censors the violence and the rest of the Europe gets the UNcensored game. :?:

edit: that's what Tom Ohle, the PR person, said

Thanks Jora. OK, so I'm about to try to have Amazon UK send it over to the USA. Is there a better way, or is that a pretty good way to import it?

How is the game manual for this title? Nicely written and detailed? How many pages?

Thanks

The version I am playing has both nipples and coup de grace moves that include hamstringing, sawing peoples heads off and repeatedly stabbing them in the neck while they are lying on the ground. I'm assuming this is the non censored version.

Manual is 80 pages and is pretty comprehensive if nothing special, I only have the standard edition though.

OK, I played a little bit more on my friends PC (he has a lot better gear) - and I really liked this game... surely there is a lot of things to improve (like talking character animations, lipsync, annoying fadeins/fadeouts when cutscene starts/ends) but it got me hooked for a few hours and there was few memorable moments when I started to think that this game is really great.

No review here, I'm not a professional reviewer;) Let's wait for a Codex review...

In the meantime I should only say:

Go try it!!!

Oh, great. This is the first game where my CPU doesn't make the min specs.

I'm thinking I'll buy the Orange Box from Play.com after all. It's cheaper than Steam (Why the fuck?) and I'm pretty certain it won't cause trouble. Gotta give Valve credit for something: They still make software without silly reqs.

Just how "censored" is the NA version? I'm not usually one to support censored games, but I may still buy it if it isn't too bad and comes with a good manual. I can live with a little nudity cut out (particularly since I can just torrent the EU version).

Im thinking that its not worth it to pay more shipping for the censored version here in the US, I doubt they cut out much. A couple of nude scenes cut out doesnt bother me, its no like there isn't fre porn everywhere on the internet.

Just finished it and I must say that I feel this is one of those truly enjoyable RPGs I'll be replaying once a year together with Fallout and a few others. The story and the choices held up great, all the way to the end.

One minor complaint though, combat in the late part of the game was too easy on hard mode. After picking up several gold skills and the better buff potion recipes almost nothing could put up a challenge anymore. I'm nitpicking though since it's a lot better done than most RPGs and hard, for the most part, was actually balanced properly instead of just 200% damage slapped on top.

There's a whole shit load of choices to make throughout the game and I'm going to replay it right away to see how much different I can make it.

As far as I'm concerned, CD Projekt is now the premier RPG developer in existence today. Hope to see more Witcher and more RPGs from you in the future, but don't let Atari piss all over you. Well done and thank you.

She won't wait for you all night. You mus be there at the sundown

She isn't there. I guess it had to be in the next day I rescued her. I missed the oportunity, apparently. What now?
