just playing some POWS again while i wait for KotB and i totally forgot how to get the armor i need for the ship. Its in that locked door on the 2nd to last level of the dungeon under the death temple right? how do i get in there again? the proudft forums recently got wiped (and are quite lifeless so asking there is a wait and see thing) and google only shows one relevent hit, from this site and never answered.

skeletony im looking at you!

i havent played the game in so many years i havent the foggiest memory of how its done, though i remember getting the answer from the proudft forums the first time around.

mayday do you mean to say i posted in the wrong forum? if so im sorry and if someone could move this.

or perhaps the fact that that thread i googled is still on the front page of that forum? again sorry but its 5.45 am here and i exclusively surf threads here by the news and assumed since i only found that thread when i googled it (with no answer in it btw) that it was like 5 yrs old.

also i did a site search at first anyway, just kinda assumed posting in there would be necromancy.

KotB is the keep on the borderlands mod for TOEE

I have not played from the beginning in a while but IIRC the room you want is behind a secret door which you have to 'L'ook for(hit then 'L' key and select a wall) to the east of that room with the minotaurs I think.

EDIT: there is also another way to get the ship.

You can visit the docks at night time IIRC and there is an encounter or something with some watchmen or guards of a ship and by selecting the right dialog options will result in a giant squid eating the guards leaving you free to steal the ship but if you do then your reputation takes a hit from Wrayland or someone like that.

That game has so much potential still... I wish we could bribe Proudfoot into finishing it.

Maybe ask cleve blakemore to do it

I would rather CRPGs were made illegal, globally and for watching porn on the internet to cause cancer than for Cleve Blakemore to have anything to do with POWS.

There is some hope for a few good things to happen. I pointed Tom towards the OpenWatcom compiler which he should be able to use(once he has more free time) to tinker with the source for both POWS and Natuk. For Natuk I am hoping he will be able to patch in some of the POWS improvements such as the delayed spell-casting, the improved skill system etc. He has been busy lately though so...who knows.

As for POWS, there are a number of things that need fixing up. The haggling skill is broken for one. Ship-to-ship combat(and the Artillery skill) does not work. The graphics need to be finished up(and older graphics need to be fixed where I hurriedly shoved a bunch of half-assed stuff Tom's way such as the Air elemental and one or two PC/NPC icons), etc.

i cant remember where i killed that damn minotaur and ive spent the last 2 hrs 'Looking' at every wall with black behind it on the bottom 3 floors, im gonna call it a bust and try to steal the ship now.

thanks for the advice though.

I would really love it if tom could find some time work on the game, if only to replace those npc icons and get cannons working, but its still fun as is.

I am going to start a new game just to create a walk through for this part. IIRC though that 'Ancient armor' is pretty easy to find and it is on the last/bottom level. But you may be looking in the wrong dungeon for all I can remember. There was an evil temple type dungeon that I think you had to travel to after getting a quest from the mayor or something but wasn't the dungeon that the ancient armor is located in located in the 'Warehouse' or some such? I may be mis-remembering things but I thought that you had to either hear the rumor or talk with someone to find out there was a secret entrance from the warehouse and then the dungeon would be available?

I will go check it out...

re

wow, yeah you were right, l was just kinda spamming 'l' and expecting it to show a pop up message or draw a door, it just put a hidden door message in the message log.

it was in what i thought was the 2nd most likely place. The most likely i thought was that locked door. Is there no way to get in that door? the one with the message about it being all scarred up from attempts at openingit on the 2nd to last lvl.

Yeah you were in the right dungeon though but you just have to do that pesky 'o'pening thing I guess which is kind of a bother.

Check out my massive package.
I started playing POWS back before Christmas and recently got back to it. I was going to make a new thread with some questions but as long as this one is here...

*After I find the armor and purchase the ship, are there any other quests left in the game or is it just free wandering?

*Does reputation matter at all? If so, how?

*What skills are broken?

*Are there any other Mage Guilds (or whatever) aside from the one in the starting town?

*Can Priests ever learn new spells? If so, how?

The room with the minotaurs is the "library" right? And this is below the level with the mystery locked rune door?

there are a good number of quests (i havent finished and so cant say how many). Follow the rumors you hear in taverns is the best non spoiling advice for that.

artillery is broken for sure, not sure if anything else is.

there is a mae guild in each nations capitol i believe

no i dont think any new spells for priests.

Crap. What can I do if my Priest has a crappy (ie limited) spell list then? My main character is a Mage but it looks like I should have gone Priest.

Is there a world map on the internet anywhere?

There are more quests. Some of them are kind of tricky to get(one involves being in a specific town wandering from place to place at night and running into a specific NPC). But yeah...there is a lot of non-linear wandering about and ransacking dungeons and such.

*Does reputation matter at all? If so, how?

Going from memory here but I know that if reputation gets too low with certain factions then you will have difficulty doing much in those faction's towns. So if you are a wanted man by the Hobgoblins then do not expect to be able to walk the streets of Helgkor for long(if at all). Same goes for Wrayland etc.

I cannot remember what the other effects are(possibly affects prices or quest availability?).

*What skills are broken?

Artillery is worthless because ship-to-ship combat(with cannons) does not work right.

Haggling is broken in that, if you raise it to a certain level you will be able to buy products in a town and sell them back to the guy you bought them from at a profit.

Don't remember if Tom got around to removing "Stealing" from the game but if it IS still there then do not bother putting points into it since stealing from shops has been disabled.

There is also an exploit bug with scribing and characters who have high magic skill and a single point of prayer skill in that they wioll be able to scribe scrolls of high level prayer spells even though his prayer skill is not high enough to cast any prayers.

There may be another one I am forgetting but I will go check and come back here later...

*Are there any other Mage Guilds (or whatever) aside from the one in the starting town?

Yes. Many.

Priests are only able to cast the spells of their deity. Each deity has a specific list of spells he grants which you can read about HERE.

For example Ont-Zlak, the death god grants spells like "Wither Head" but not spells like "Summon Dragon". You just have to raise your prayer skill high enough to cast the spells.

IIRC the 'Minotaur library' is right next to the secret door that hides the "Ancient Armor". Pretty sure it is on the same level. But you have to 'L'ook for the secret door on a wall to the east of the minos I think adn then you have to 'O'pen it.

The game automatically makes one priest(minimum) available as a companion from that first tavern at the beginning(which is why I usually create a bard or a monk or something). If you created a priest and chose a deity whose spell list does not suit you(see the link in my above post about this) then you either have to tough it out and recruit RPCs whom will pick up the slack or you must start over. There is no class-changing or deity changing feature.

EDit: Oops...my bad. You said right above that you created a mage as your main. I would not worry about it then because you will be able to recruit better priests later.

Thanks for the help.

After doing the boat quest I sailed east til I hit the end of the line, then sailed back to the starter town and headed south. I've been moseying around the big southern continent since then and it's been pretty boring, not many ships around and all the towns are backwater crapfests except for buying food.

Which led me to wonder if there was anything else out there save for copy/paste towns and dungeons.

What do the puke green expanses of sea represent? I went in one of these areas, found a secret island, then got attacked by a bunch of... sea giants or something. wtf.
