I just looked up the difference between a tautology (a word I've never heard of) and circular logic, thanks to our colleague, Kyl Von Kull. Yes, the thing I was getting at was a tautology. The argument I defended against was they aren't divine/supernatural, therefore they are not gods. Gods, by definition, are divine/supernatural. So, when I say something is a god, just attacking my proposition by saying my gods are not divine/supernatural is not sufficient to deny their godhood. It's like if I said, this is a god, and you said this is not a god because this is not a god.

Anyway, the difference between the two is real but inapplicable for informal discussions. Just call them gods for fuck's sake. Use everyday language. Be a real human being.

We are gods!
what is the definition of god?
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/god

Definition of god
1: the supreme or ultimate reality: such as: the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe: the incorporeal divine Principle ruling over all as eternal Spirit : infinite Mind
2: a being or object believed to have more than natural attributes and powers and to require human worship;specifically : one controlling a particular aspect or part of reality
  • Greek gods of love and war
3: a person or thing of supreme value
  • had photos of baseball's gods pinned to his bedroom wall
4: a powerful ruler
  • Hollywood gods that control our movies' fates
5:an artificial intelligence created by scientists to rule the world

Well, I'll be.

What differentiates the Engwithan gods from classic fantasy examples of "gods who were created" is that they're not individual heroic mortals who achieved godhood, but were instead manufactured through an almost industrial process. It's easier to worship the former because they earned their godhood.

If the ancient Engwithans had passed down not only a tradition of worshipping the gods but also worshipping the Engwithans themselves as a people, then it would be easier to accept the gods' nature. So interestingly it's the Glanfathans who do make a cult of the Engwithans who are best positioned to accept the truth about the gods.

I'd corroborate what Infinitron says by what I've seen on a deadfire livestream

At some point, the narrator (or Berath or something) says that the Engwithans turned themselves into gods. I don't know if it means that they specifically used the souls of their own people to build these entities, or if it actually means that they put some of them in the gods. Afaik, there's no actual information in the first game about that. Either way, it does throw back to how Indians worship them in poe 1

Is it? The only place I've seen that is in those weird PCGamesN sponsored posts which I'm not sure I trust.

At the end of PoE1
you have a vision of Thaos having used the machine to extract souls and turn them into a god, with those Engwithans (since it's implied to be voluntary, should be them) being huskified like PoE's Leaden Key. That would make both your statements kinda correct .

The creation of the gods consumed the entire Engwithan civilisation, and is why they're no longer around. I don't know how many of them went willingly, but the implication is that when they found out that were no gods they were struck with existential despair.

Yeah i am not sold too. I would like to see some snowy place to contrast the warm jungle and deserts. In the worse scenario i'll get it with the first Dlc (beast of winter) i guess

Alright, I completely forgot that. Thanks for the information, my dudes.
I adopted the habit of reading in diagonal after I was done with my first playthrough. This kind of details is usually lost on me.

I still find interesting how it was phrased in deadfire.

like, they turned themselves into gods ie. gods are still kinda representing Engwith ? What about Od Nua ? Are there specialists here who might remember what he was about ? Isn't it quite similar (although selfish in his case) ?
That gives Patel and her team room to make Thaos, retrospectively, a dude defending the interests of his own people rather than his claims of protecting folks and whatnot. Also explains why I remember him saying his people made great sacrifices to create the gods.

Funny thing about Od Nua is that he must have lived and died before the gods were created. So if there are other such ancient Engwithan sites in the world, you'd think eventually people would notice that there are no recognizable religious references anywhere in them and start to wonder.

Do you know you can have Furry fury character named Furry?

Go hire character, and select one of furries, and one of specialization is fury.

I don't get how they could turn a likeable and easy-going character such as Eder into a racist and apparently casual rapist. I haven't played yet, so I can't judge at how convincing this transformation is, but it sounds nothing like the PoE Eder.

I assume good ol' Thaos would have duely taken care of this. Leaving therefore only the most unattainable sites untouched. Or something.
MajorMace , don't get to General.
Depends on how well I'll fare during the inevitable global conflict that Avellone will trigger after he's done emptying his bag about Feargus and associates. I do cherish the hope that his RM Avellone makes me maréchal of the crpg republic in some distant future.
Meanwhile, I'll get myself some precious xp on the deadfire release battlefields. I hope the game turns good, it's much funnier to defend good games from detractors than to bash shit games despite fanboys on the codex. The latter usually boils down to fighting over determining if it's utter shit, somewhat shit, kinda shit or good for what it is. Like the first poe. Meh.

Inventing a technology to create your own gods seems like a way to earn godhood to me.
They don't become gods, though, they die and the matter of their souls is used as fuel. The gods haven't earned godhood any more than a Reaper drone has earned the ability to fly

Where do you watch this?

Eder dialogue is horrible eric didnt wrote that crap about having to put hand on the mouth so she dont scream during sex.

I had promised that my first playthrough would be with sidekicks only, to avoid the cringe, then I revised that to "custom party only", just to be sure, but I had lately become curious about companions again.

Which is the temple-fucking one? By temple, and raedceran accents, I suppose Xoti?
I'm sorry. It's our buddy ol' pal Edér.

:hmmm: He didn't rape her, they were lovers. He had to cover her mouth so they wouldn't wake up the neighbors.
