Have any of the builds of Duke Nukem Forever ever leaked?

Randy Pitchford might not know what he's talking about, but this Frederik guy sounds like he's telling Cleve Blakemore-style tall tales.

Which means they might shockingly turn out to be entirely true.

i don't see any reason for them to not be true, it just seems like pitchford doesn't want to be "entrapped" into being "forced" into finishing a game from 2002. the real conflict seems to be between fred and charlie, with the latter down-playing duke02 into a "dumpster/museum of stuff" rather than "close to be finished" full game.

Pitchford doesn't want to admit the "true" Forever game being a thing partly because he's a shit developer. If you have any doubts, remember that Forever's DLC was all of his making and it was "just" mediocre compared with the godawful vanilla game.

Charlie Wiederhold had this to say over at Duke4.net in response to the email posted earlier in this thread. For clarification the email was a reply from Randy Pitchford to an email sent by crazyflyingdonut. Charlie's post reads as if he thinks the info is coming from crazyflyingdonut however it's still relevant as he mentions the claim that content existing only for specific shots indicates they haven't really looked in to all of it.

Ok, now I am starting to think it's real because everyone else thinks it is real.

If it wasn't real, there would be no issues releasing it - actually pitchford would have feasted upon the opportunity of saying the community doesn't know what's best for her

Instead, we got an informed opinion by someone that not only looked at the builds, but has no interest economically in duke to tell that the builds are out there, that they can get compiled and all is needed is just a yes by a developer.

And yet, we don't get any yes and I have to see people inside this forum actually believing the claims of a pathological liar.

I had to post this video here since it came out of nowhere. Nice gimmick lawyer nerd gamer. No sarcasm intended.

For the public record I beat Duke Nukem Forever on the hardest difficulty. It was painful, but worth the wait.

The worst part of the game was the loading times and the 15 year (whatever it was) wait. Simple as that. Without those it would have been a mediocre console shooter. It reminds me of Quake 4 a lot which was also not that great, but not the worst game ever.

What the fuck is this for a shit you say?

My point is aside from a few excessively shitty levels it was no worse than 90% of the FPS trash released the past 15 years.

Reminder that DNF suffers from the same problems as Bioshock Infinite.

Bad writing
Unnecessary weapon limitation
Lame scripted sequences
Overly linear level design

I wouldn't go that far, but I will agree it was amusing to see reviewers who praised lame ass console FPS games from that era acting like DNF was some kind of special catastrophe. I've heard the console versions were pretty shit on a technical level, which probably didn't help. A lot of it was just hating the humor though, as it was the dawn of the PC age. Another funny part though is watching something like the Giant Bomb quicklook where they act deeply offended by the humor and mad it exists, but their fucking podcasts and shit have the same exact type of frat boy humor Duke is using (and arguably satirizing).

I don't care what anyone says, Duke Nukem 3D was awesome back then and it's still fun today, though not as fun as i was hoping it to still be, i also still like Duke, he's such a shameless action movie character spouting one liners who loves women that i can't help but love it.

Duke Nukem Forever took it a bit too far though for the era it was released in, didn't help that there were long pissing scenes and you could literally play with...poop, it just felt like it was trying too hard to be irreverent while not being all that great.

Duke Nukem 3D however, felt more like a parody than anything else and the character was meant to be just fun and different, and the character can still work, look at Bulletstorm, there is one alternate mode where Duke Nukem replaces the main character and he is forced to go on another sci-fi adventure and he comes off as a funny character who can still work in this day and age, so i am going to guess that DNF's team just sucked.

As if DNF didn't have other problems, like uninspired level design, turret sections, health regen, 2-weapon-limit, etc. Basically everything that is/was wrong with FPS of that era.
And to understand why DNF's humor doesn't work, just compare the cover art of both games. Basically, they turned Duke from an action hero parody into Douche Nukem.

That is a good point, i honestly don't think Duke Nukem was nearly as much of a douche in 3D, he was just going around saving the world, and while he may pay strippers to shake it or what not, the game didn't revolve entirely around sex and gore nor Duke's character, most of his dialogue was him being a parody spewing one-liners left and right, and he came more as an arrogant snarky badass than anything else.

Duke Nukem Forever though, felt like they forgot that and made him more of a douche than he actually was, probably didn't help that Duke had a reputation of being a perverted idiot from people who didn't play the game.

Seriously, i know there is a part where he goes to a porno theater and pays strippers...but aliens are there, just outside the theater you get aliens shooting at you, it wasn't as if Duke just stopped to go watch porn, he was more interested in just killing aliens and looking cool but in a way that wasn't offensive or terrible, i kinda feel like a lot of work went into Duke's personality in 3D but the Forever development crew didn't notice and made him more unlikeable and unbearable, had people thinking of Duke as being a bigger douche than he was and you got...well, you got Duke Nukem Forever and it's sales.

If you had doubts about DNF, the DLC confirmed that Duke's behavior is all Gearbox's fault, since he acts the same here.

Most likely Gearbox couldn't give two shits about Duke as a character. "Funny? Whatever, but Randy likes." And in a way character somehow(ventrillo?) became in "everyone's" mind of being a brat with Gearbox not wanting to commit in shaping it other/original way. Voice actor was given free rein(adlibing even) and script was shit. So we got that fucker Douche. I'm into blaming Gearobx for everything, but I really doubt it was their specific addition to DNF. More likely they decided to stay clear of this thing. For all the faults of Broussard, the project needed someone similar to steer the ship in a specific way.

All it did was further end Duke's franchise, not that gamers were caring all that much after Forever took ages to come out and the only things they did with him were two Tomb Raider kinda games and one 2.5D platformer in the early 2000's.

Talk about waste of a franchise, Duke Nukem 3D was huge and could have easily led to a bigger franchise, but nope, Broussard had to make the most advanced game on the market for some reason and constantly delay it.

Sad because i really like Duke Nukem 3D, for all it's reputation as a crass game or what not, it was really creative, had more interactivity than most FPS games and it was just fun all while having cool unique weapons like the Shrinker, it's a game i often think doesn't get the appreciation it deserves.

Too bad DNF doubled/tripled down on crassness, which, despite reputation, wasn't Duke3d's (main) ingredient.

There is a difference in being crass and being a retard. Ogling naked women at a strip club and throwing money at them is crass. Playing with your piss and shit is being a retard. DNF turned Duke into a thorough bred retard.

Quite a lot of media leaked in the last couple of months that can be seen here:

Bad news is Randy has changed his tone and now says that they have no plans to release anything comparing a release of a build to going through a dead persons belongings, Randy says "maybe when everyone is dead and no one cares" someone else will release something.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue5MLsD0Rto&t=45m43s

So there you have it. Nothing will ever be released as far as Randy Pitchford is concerned.

A reminder that Gearbox have a contact form: https://www.gearboxsoftware.com/contact/

If there's enough demand they may change their tune again. The only reason they had interest in releasing anything to begin with was that it kept being spoken about and they saw value in including it as part of a Duke Nukem collection as an incentive to buy it.

It's disappointing given how interesting the recently leaked videos appear, and it seems much more developed than Gearbox had claimed. Perhaps one way or another a build from late 2002, which is apparently when the '2001 version' was in it's most complete state, will eventually appear either officially or through some other means. Between everyone at Gearbox who has access to that content, the new 3D Realms who have it....you never know what could happen.

I just found out about this. Randy Pitchfork is an idiot for not wanting to release this 2001 version of Duke Nukem Forever. I think me and many many other people would buy this in an instant. I don't want them to get hacked over this or something but I hope they do. :avatard:
