How does Beyond divinity compare to Divine Divinity?

Is it as open-worldish?

It is more story-oriented than nonlinear. This title takes the setting and story-twists from the 'Child of the Chaos' books by Rhianna Pratchett(A writer for the game). Theres lots of humor and color in the game, but some parts can be a little slow(EG - the battlegrounds feature is a waste of time). It is not nonlinear('open-worldish' as you say), but this is a very solid title and I enjoyed it much more than Divine Divinity.

They say about Divine Divinity it was a diablow clone ambitiously trying to be Ultima-like.

Beyond Divinity doesn't even begin to try.

Beyond Divnity is a really funny game. Not so much fun to play at times, but if you can find it for like 5 bucks give it a go.

Divine Divnity is one of the best games ever made and a fine successor to the Ultimas.

Beyond Divinity is funny only if it's happening to someone else.

people keep saying that but every time I try playing this game I gave up in disgust because of the clickfest that combat is, the boring character system and the bland story. Have I been playing the wrong DD or what?

Everyone harps on DD because of the first dungeon but you can skip it. It's not integral to the story at all.

But if you have a problem with the story and the character system etc. that's a personal thing and I doubt my words will do anything to change it so go on, go on your way and go home to your wife and make her happy and see your kids and work at your job and all along just think of how much better things could be if you just had the time to write that novel you always dreamed of writing but thats it, isn't it? That's all it is, just a goddamn dream, aleph.

The first dungeon was long over when I stopped playing. I remember some wood full of orcs and that monastery full of undead. Still boring, uninspired hack and slash, reminded me a lot of Lionheart actually, another game full of fail that could have been good if it had not tried to be another diablo.

You know, those pills your doctor prescribed you? You should better take them, seriously.

I remember when she wrote for pc zone magazine, she was a hottie. She still a hottie?

I love it how they wanted to go all next gen by converting 2D characters in to 3D and thus turning them in to barely comprehensible messes. This one of the prime examples how 3D killed good gaming.

The polygonal 3D characters in BD do look markedly worse than the 2D sprites in DD. It's an example of inappropriate use of 3D. Darn new fangled 3D gaming...

Beyond Divinity is a great game if you dont start playing it expecting a true divine divinity 2, once you get used to the controlling of the two characters and the interface it can be a very entertaining and deep pc rpg romp.

I finished them both and while divinity had very strong points I think Beyond Divinity overall manages to be more of an "rpg" than divine divinity if you exclude stuff like the battlefields.

The game has a campy feel at times with some over the top humor but thats part of its charm once you get used to it. The voice acting can be very bad at times but other than that I think the game has very good production values.

The character creation mechanics are very flexible and the realtime with pause combat works well and is challenging and interesting once you begin to acquire more skills. Also Beyond Divinity has more interaction in general.

Seriously I see no reason at all for anyone aching for an well made old schoolish RPG to NOT GIVE beyond divinity a playthrough.

Some that do give it a good try may still find Divinity Divinity better overall but I doubt they will feel like they wasted their time in Beyond Divinity.

Seriously with some of the crap people play I never understood why beyond divinity got such a bad rep. Once I gave it a good go it hooked me until the end.
