Cool thanks thats not bad. I got sidetracked again slaughtering some big outdoor region that was too high level for me. Hope there are not many more time requirements for things.

Then 1 or 2 of them (depending if you got 1 from the Tomb) are waiting for you deep under that large area. But it's also a great place to gain a level or 2.

Enjoying this a hell of a lot. I agree forcefully about the limited party memebers though. And I have just discovered, to my astonishment, that I have permanantly failed to recruit two NPC's (Jubilost and Ekun) by failing too visit two random patches of wilderness during "Troll Trouble" back in chapter 3. This wouldnt be a major issue if there were a few more.

I like the time limits a lot, but I feel they could be more well displayed. They only really impose a limit on skipping time to build stuff.

Is there a bug with Tower Specialist or something? I'm only getting 1 AC from my +4 Dexterity bonus even though I have Tower Shield Training and Armor Training level 2.

Maybe you are encumbered? Even medium level restricts max dex bonus to 3, and it took me embarassing amount of time to figure out why my Valerie in Mithril Armor do not get extra AC from DEX belt.

is Jaethal intended to constantly ressurect after you kill her with Enneo? It's seems pretty... buggy that the quest just concludes and then she keeps respawning

I had the same bug. Even reported it to devs 1 month ago.
In the end I loaded the save and sided with Jaethal instead.

Day 4:

Making some notes for myself. I'm rich now, loot whoring paid off. But had to stop looting everything, not efficient in this game. The weight system is pretty hardcore, even potions are heavy. I had 30 ish and it left me no room to buy rations. I had to slim down. Now I only loot light valuable stuff. Got some stuff that say sell to an artificer or something, I hope he exists somewhere and it doesn't just mean a merchant because I've been holding on to them for a while. Also got some fancy gear components that need combining.

Made level 3 on everyone, whooping ass now. I bought a dex belt which made a big difference with my sorcerer landing his spells. Just need another one for my wiz. Also I only just learned how to select spells in the book for each level. Got a mini fireball which is disappointing because you can't target it on the ground, it has to target a creature, but hits the area so if the creature is attacking the tank, it likely burns the tank too. Other spells are becoming good now though, don't need to just bow everything. Magic missile has a punch, burning hands is really strong and can be cast many times. Get the right angle and it hits every enemy and hurts.

I searched 80% of the big region, I need to finish the caves and confront the little spy shit again. Then go back outside and kill a wolf who gave me trouble at level 3. And also there is a camp in the NW with free food for one rest, but a ghost baddie spawns and he whooped me too. I wanna go back at level 4 and beat them up.

Love this game. Proper RPG. Strange to see in this day and age. I liked DoS1 (and 2 somewhat) but it is more of an RPG-lite with actiony silly combat. This is the real deal. As much as I enjoyed stuff like KOTC, nothing really beats a proper bigger budget RPG with nice music and spell effects and stuff. Hope it does well enough to get expansions and sequels and competitors.

Levelling up is glorious. Finally getting my characters to work more how I want them. I feel held back by the ability point limit. For example I have to spread my points evenly between lore, athletics, etc. I wanna just pump one up really high on each character but it doesn't wanna let me. I can dig it. I should try to make my cleric start using a crossbow. I have 2 tanks and 3 ranged people, if she attacks too she gets messed up so I keep having to press H on her and she twiddles her thumbs. Sometimes I let her fight but she can use a bow that would be something.

My main character jackass keeps saying, "a rest is in order". Even after just resting.

The shield wall with 2 tanks is nice. Also my better equipped tank (Valerie) is great. I had a fight where my whole party got knocked out, and she finished fighting several enemies by herself on 3hp.

This game should just be played without an alchemist. It's that simple. They hit easily dealing 40+ damage per hit, attack multiple times, deal half damage even if they miss, and can easily switch damage types if something isn't harmed by acid.

No enemy - and I mean not a single one - has been able to reduce damage from Jubilost. Adamantine Golems just fall over.

And it's not like it's some specific broken build. It's just the alchemist! Not even the Vivi.

Glad I don't have one. Finding my tanks with tower shields pretty weirdly strong though. I have this thing that speeds up the game and in most fights I can just speed it up and afk. Two tanks with shield wall hold the enemies and don't take any damage. The other 3 characters dont even need to use spells, just auto attack with bows and everything eventually dies. No spells used, no hitpoints lost. Pretty uber, but a nice change from last level which was kinda rough. I like how each level has its own little meta.

^ others claim that enemies will switch targets after a while but I've shifted up the difficulty and it's not the case in my game. And they for sure 100% will never, ever take an AOO even if it means they can get to the backline and regardless of the threat presented by the AOO itself. The only exception to this are encounter that seems specifically programmed to use charge at the beginning or enemies with bows many of which don't have the coding to switch weapons so they will just stand there firing arrows in melee killing themselves to your AOOs.

Beware I heard that speed mod can mess up your time limits. l played some with it then disabled it after reading that it may cause problem. To be clear It was not cheat engine hack, just mod. Managed to finish game.

Grunker are you using mods? Haven't played the game in a while, npcs used to switch to the nearest other party member if neither they or valerie landed a hit in a while

Nope, I'm mod free. Like I said, others have said the same as you though, while others again (e.g. Jaedar) has reported no target switching, same as me.

The bigger issue is one's backline being so safe though. Beyond spawning enemies out of the blue directly on top of them, the game doesn't really attempt to get at them that much.

Give your cleric a Javelin or some other 1-Handed Ranged weapon. The range is 30, so he's closer to your melee when you need to cast a heal, and he can hold a shield at the same time.

Enemies don't remember who they attacked, so they are switching back and forth between his two tanks. Tank + Tank is pretty strong.
Tank + Summon also works well, since enemies switch from your tank and kill a summon, then start attacking your tank again. Repeat.

how many javelins or other 1 handed ranged weapons have you find during your last game?

IIRC someone found a bit of code that dictates targeting AI. It was a counter that incremented whenever Character A missed an attack or an enemy targeting them missed an attack. When it broke a threshold, the enemy would choose a new target. Likewise, if a Character being targeted landed an attack or was hit, the counter would decrement. They don't care if they just gave up attacking one person and bounce back-and-forth, there was no memory there. I really hope I'm not hallucinating all of this because my subpar Google-Fu is not working.

Naturally, that is extremely prone to randomness and explains why a lot of players have WILDLY different expectations of enemies targeting who you "want" them to target, especially in the early-to-mid game. I personally saw both sides of this argument frequently throughout the game. Depending on APR in the late game and the scaling of enemy THC vs. party defenses, it could explain why enemies might stick to Valerie later as well. There's just a lot of variables that need accounting.

Thanks I just got him a crossbow but I'll get a spear sometime. I need to work out how to get them to do some stuff automatically. I think there is an AI?

They are very rare. You find a +2 Javelin pretty early, and then nothing for a while. You can get a few bog standard +3 or +4 with no special abilities near Pitax. There’s a +5 Holy Dart very late game, but you can buy a sword with infinite Searing Light the moment you walk into HATEOT.

That Sword + Ravena Shield was my end game Harrim loadout. It’s a touch attack!

There is AI button right under stealth mode. AI is very restricted in P:K, it mostly auto-attacks or uses designated spell/ability on repeat.
You can switch it on/off separately for different chars. I usually switch it off for my more fragile melees but leave it on for shoot-on-sight behavior on archers.

Then there are holy bombs that completely wreck all undead, demons, wisps and most bosses. And you also get multiple items that give you additional d6 to all bomb damage rolls. In my playthrough Jubilost was probably the main reason difficulty took a huge dive from chapter 1 to chapters 2/3 (Ekundayo with Devourer of Metal and a bunch of archery feats was another but there are enemies he has trouble hitting). Everyone got stronger, Valerie got some good equipment, feats and tower shield training etc, but the difference in killing power between Jubilost and everyone else was huge and it didn't change for the entire game. His AC is terrible but he can cast some defensive spells and as long as you can defend him with fighters and don't run out of bombs everything just dies.
