Is the new xpac worth getting? From what I read the north barbarian just feels like Orc but human. The only unique aspect I think is the beast tamer whose beasts can get out of control?

There's also different company backgrounds to choose from which mix things up a bit.
Most notably "lone wolf", where you start with 1 dude whose death means game over.

When the last guy is cornered on all sides and his white flag is fully raised, it's a matter a little more time to take him down.
and it's a matter of honour to cut off his head with a cleaver or cleaving him in half with a two hander instead of doing a million little tiny stabs

BTW, I find maces more useful than flails. I stun more often than I hit with flails, and the guy wasting one turn can be the difference between losing one of my guys and killing that guy.

Goddammit I fucking hate swamps.
Feels like there's some algorith that makes your bros ALWAYS spawn in the murky water just as a big FUCK YOU.

Just got a Reinforced Mail Hauberk (210) and Padded flat top helmet (150) (among other things) as loot! This took some very careful knife work!

Not sure this is necessary, i often get 0% armors as loot.

You do..? Haven't played in a while but getting good quality armor without knifing is something that's happened to me maybe 4 or 5 times in ~50 hours of play. Can't say the knifing minigame is something I'm a big fan of though it does make sense mechanically/balance-wise and at least when I last played it was p. much mandatory

It's a special trait of the barbarian origin that you're able to get destroyed armor as loot. The invitation to Knife Town - population: You isn't really that fun, but on the other hand, you somehow need to balance the amount of loot you can get out of a fight, otherwise you'd be much faster geared up. That being said, that you only get a 90% chance iirc to loot undamaged armor is pretty retarded and I hate that the devs are so keen on RNG. There's nothing more frustrating than carefully shanking a leader or knight, maybe even lose a brother or two in the process and then you get nothing out of it.

Well, I'm at day 40 with my peasant militia and things are going pretty well, although I'm severly undergeared. I think I need to bite the bullet and raid a supply caravan or two, I can handle most brigand parties with ease with the exception of marksmen. Fuckers spawned with crossbows and took down two of my brehs, but got the crossbows for myself which are somewhere around 2k crowns if I'm not mistaken, so their sacrifice wasn't in vain.

Yeah I agree hence

I haven't played with the backgrounds yet but getting 0% armor sounds p. insane

I have to say that I prefer spearwalls, shiv-armour-thieves, mace-stunners and of course ranged & polearms in the early game. All really useful ways to keep your fragile bros out of trouble. Flails I don't feel great about using them until I have enough mattack to land those head hits, at which point there's many other options.

My battle music with my barbarian crew that slaughters peasants and caravans whenever possible:

Meanwhile, i'm working my ass off to get on every faction's good graces after the dreadful barbarian start, you certainly picked the easiest way.

The worst part is i picked a caravan escort mission right after the event (which costs 2k gold) that brings 2 hostiles factions to threatening relation and the local militia ambushed my party surrounded it in the swamps, no way to flee.

Long story short, relations went back to hostile with one faction. :negative:

We barbarians are quite crafty, aren't we ? :P
