Ok, so there are bad news and good news.
The bad is - crunch or no crunch, it seems we need more testing before I can let myself ask for people' brouzoufs.
So that's also the good news - the game’s demo is on Steam, you can apply to test it via Discord, just ping me or my teammate Davide there and you can get it after a bit!

Hey, sorry for the long silence, I've been away for a while to recover from crunch, now making new plans and doing bug fixing thanks to beta-tester reports at the same time. I will post an update about the new plans next week, wanna take it a bit more seriously with time estimates now, you understand. And thanks for posting the tweets, we still need more testers (but be ready for our scary survey with boring questions!))

Always great to feel the desire to prove someone wrong I guess.
Though I don’t know how you got the ‘clicker’ idea, the game is anything but. Clicking away gets you killed pretty quick. Anyway, maybe topdown gridbased is just not your thing.
I don’t much love porn-anime 'rpg' games that swarm my steam searches, but I don’t tend to go out and tell the devs how shallow and boring I find their games, do I?
But since you for some reason took the time to write this I assume you care - so lemme tell ya, in the future, I would love to do a mode that feels something like Grimrock, so don’t lose hope. For me graphics come last, that's all.

Hello friends!

This Saturday the game had a massive update, and I thought it’s past time I started posting here to keep you updated about the project’s progress!
First things first - the Eidolons is in closed beta for at least another month, and we are still giving out keys via Discord[discord.gg].
If you're not interested in testing, but just want to stay really well up to date, you should join our mailing list[mailchi.mp] or Twitter at least :)

This latest update features puzzles, story, sound design and everything for atmospheric immersion! It is in fact an introduction to Netherflame campaign, so we’re getting closer to the real thing.
It’s a new chapter in the project’s development!
Makes me feel a bit vindicated in trying - for years - to live up to the legends the life of Dark Soulsand Planescape: Torment.

All in all, the road to Early Access before us now seems clear. In fact, I have a special vision for it. Let me tell you about...


What to expect from EA version?

In short, Eidolons EA will not be a half-broken version of the full game, but a much shorter yet polished game.
It will differ in its focus on our mercurial and ruthless protagonist, the first and last Eidolon Lordborn of this age.
Later he will play a more behind-curtains role, but in this prelude, we explore his dark story, see the world through his eyes as he walks in the shells of fallen heroes and villains. In short, it is a more personal, story-driven experience.
Here are some things we are sure to have there:
  • The core turn-based combat experience
  • Deep hero customization for each of the Eidolon heroes (at least 4 of them, probably more)
  • Diverse dungeon exploration mechanics from puzzles to good old secret-hunting
  • Unique Eidolon death-mechanics that marry roguelike to true cRPG.
  • And of course, full scope of the dark mystical atmosphere characteristic of the Eidolons universe!

What is not likely to appear in EA (but will in the full version):
  • Proper map adventuring (want to make it real good when I do)
  • Advanced dialogue (the system works, but writing takes time!)
  • A lot of 3d-rendered epic bosses (those are not cheap)
  • Fully randomized dungeons (EA version will lean more towards hand-made)

Finally, the question we’re all burning to get the answer for - when is the game coming out??
There are two major release windows that I see for the game now - November 2019 and February 2020.
That is the best I can say for now - of course I am hoping to make it in time for 2019, but apart from development challenges, it largely depends on the numbers and moods that I see by that time. So spreading the word and helping with beta-testing are the best ways you can hasten Eidolons on their way up from Nether to our world! :)

The game is a 2D grid of squares where you click on a square portrait to move it (or attack I guess) to another square.

You once said it was "top down". However I will tell you (again), there is nothing "top down" about it. The camera might be facing down on your 2D grid of squares, but that's as "top down" as it gets.

I also asked you if this was a Game Maker Studio game, which you didn't bother to answer.

Congrats for making a game, I mean that seriously. But you like to talk about it like it's the second coming of Jesus...and it just aint.

See, about effort... You tried developing a game project before, bro? Just not sure you got better grip on that part of reality. This game is made from ground up with its own engine, then topped with libgdx for a bit of fluff, maybe against better judgment.
The game says pretty clearly it's a roguelike as well as a crpg. If you don't like squares&grids do play witcher by all means I do it myself too when I wanna admire 3d scenery.
Sure crowdfunding ain’t likely to do much in 2019 ‘cause industry’s gone to shit, low trust and all. Doesn't mean people with low budgets will all go huddle in the corner

Except...that's not how you came here to describe it at first...you specifically said it was a "TOP DOWN RPG" when I asked you...now...all of a sudden..well...it's a "rogue-like".

I think you need to stop being a dick about the criticisms about your game, and actually start to take that criticism to heart.

The first thing you can do to improve your game, is to TONE DONE all the over-powering EFFECTS. Now I may be VOCAL about that here to you, but several others have stated the same.
