Fight a fire drake with a magic archer. The damage is too low with the bow and I'll end up with for a good 20 + minutes just to beat it. Not because it's close to hard, but because it has a massive health pool and pawns are too stupid to even enchant weapons, attack the heart or finish casting spells even when they're 90% finished.
All of this is wrong. I soloed the game as a Magick Archer. It never took me a long time to kill firedrakes. You just use the six fold bolt which does ice damage and also homes in on target and aim at the heart. It's easy. If your pawns aren't enchanting then you have their inclinations set wrong, but I don't think enchanting a Mystic Archer's bow changes the attacks since they're magical and already have an element attached to them.

You must not have had a decent bow, since the damage you do is heavily based on what weapon you have.

I used the six fold bolt and its little damage. Something like 1/30th of one health bar every shot.

I have not found a bow better than this and I've had it since early game and it's upgraded to the 5th level. Magic archer doesn't get frequent bow drops from the BBI shit or even the base game.

As an aside, this game is day and night in comparison to the witcher 3. Just compare the Griffin fight in DD vs Witcher 3.

Read this on purification. It explains how to manage it and exploit it. It should be easy to get one of the top 2 bows. You can even get 2 chances by simply switching you and your pawn between a soceror/mage and a strider/ranger vocation. You just have to reload to try. The weapons come in a specific order as well.

You can cheat to get more rift crystals. Seems sort of necessary if no one plays the game anymore and you can't get crystals through lending pawns out. They only made it like this to force the online component on you.

Already read, already did. I get a staff and I'd have to farm for more rift crystals and bbi level 3 weapons

What is it with the Japanese and gating content behind 'Go outside/have friends' shit? Pokemon being the ur-example, I suppose, though I don't know if they changed that after the first one.

It's like goddamn Tanaka-san, I'm not sat in my hermetically-sealed doomsday bunker playing RPGs because I want more interaction with other humans, y'know?

I think it's possibly a bit of a DRM scheme on why there's rift crystals and you can only get enough by lending out pawns.

Dragon’s Dogma Online to end service on December 5 in Japan
Dragon's Dogma online action RPG shutting down.

Dragon’s Dogma Online will end service on December 5 at 10:00 JST, Capcom announced. The free-to-play online action RPG is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC.

According to Capcom, while it has sought to run the game in a way that all players can enjoy since launch, it has become difficult to continue offering satisfactory service, so it has come to the decision to shut down the game.

Capcom will stop offering downloads of the game client and all downloadable content across all supported platforms on July 11.

Satisfactory service such as actually releasing the game to the west.

I hope this means they've begun working on DD2. I recall Hideaki Itsuno saying he'd been interested in DD2 but chose to make DMC5 first.

Game is fantastic, has the best gameplay of any hack and slash RPG around. Getting the team behind the Devil May Cry games to do a combat focused genre like a Hack & Slash went a hell of a long way in getting the combat to feel great. Has a really nice interesting intuitive create-a-character system too where stats are directly tied into what you make your character physically look like.

It's got some flaws, the open world isn't quite what it should be, but even the open world aspect has some really nice stuff like with how it changes at night and how dark the night actually gets; it can actually make you think about when you go do some quest so you're not traversing the map at night.

If you're playing it for the first time just know that in the first town you should probably do all the board quest there. Just take all the "kill X amount" quest at once, they aren't designed like most other games where you have to hunt down whatever, they're set up so you'll just naturally do with while fighting stuff around the town or while doing a board escort mission. You don't want to go into the first mission in Gran Soren (or the well in the first town) too under leveled, as they can be kind of a bitch.
